The field of rehabilitation robotics has emerged as a prominent area of research in the medical community in recent years, offering innovative and promising solutions for patients with physical disabilities. The existing lower limb rehabilitation robots have some shortcomings in human-machine compatibility and motion synergy due to the limitation of the real-time human motion intention recognition. In this paper, an instant motion recognition of the lower limb was proposed using surface electromyography (sEMG) for significantly shortening the time delay between the robot motion and the actual human motion. The first 200ms data of the complete sEMG signal for a single motion cycle was employed in the recognition algorithm. The proposed recognition algorithm demonstrated superior accuracy compared to traditional machine learning methods. The accuracy of 9-class recognition was 94.32%, while 12-class recognition achieved that of 89.32%. A data augmentation method based on magnitude warping followed by shifting was employed to enhance recognition accuracy by 11.37% in 9-class recognition and 19.23% in 12-class recognition when comparing with no augmentation. The optimal results for motion recognition were observed when the first 200ms data of the complete sEMG signal for a single motion cycle with a duration of 1.0s were utilized, as evidenced by comparative results. The proposed method offers a novel approach to enhancing human-machine compatibility and comfort in the application of lower limb rehabilitation robots in the future.

The past decade has witnessed a flourishing of different physical communication technologies for underwater wireless transmissions systems. Fast paced advances in optical, radio-frequency, or magneto-inductive signals technologies have ushered in a new era of multi-modal communication systems. In a nutshell, the majority of the systems seek to combine the short-range, high-bit rate of the new wave of technologies with the long-range, low-bit rate of the by now de facto acoustic communications solutions. This increasing flexibility opens a new realm of operations and solutions for underwater robotic vehicles working in cooperation. In this paper, we propose a new hybrid acoustic-optical under-water communication network for next-generation cooperative systems. We endeavor to describe its development in the scope of the EU Marine Robots Network project by a team, composed by the NATO STO Centre for Maritime Research and Experi-mentation (CMRE) and the Instituto Superior Tecnico of Lisbon (IST). In particular: the integration of the CMRE Cognitive-Communication Architecture (CCA) with the BlueRay optical modem of IST and its installation in marine robotic vehicles of the Medusa class. laboratory and in-water tests using the Medusa stack and the Medusa class vehicles showcase the potentiality of the proposed network in future cooperative underwater missions.

Hair direction is an important external feature of hair, and recognising hair direction is a prerequisite for processing hair. In this paper, a new algorithm is proposed and systematically verified experimentally for the problem of recognising hair direction. The main goal of this paper is to develop an algorithm that can identify hair direction in a complex image environment. A curve segment analysis method based on image skeletonisation is adopted, which is based on skeleton extraction, intersection identification, curve segmentation and direction prediction. In addition, this paper combines the technique of non-maximal value suppression and PCA analysis to improve the accuracy and stability of the estimation. In the experimental design, this paper chooses a representative image dataset to verify the effectiveness of this paper's algorithm. The experimental process includes the steps of image preprocessing, skeletonisation processing, intersection detection and merging, and direction prediction. The experimental results show that the method in this paper can accurately and effectively identify the hair direction. The main contribution of this paper is to propose a new hair direction recognition method and experimentally verify its effectiveness and accuracy in complex backgrounds.
