Blockchain technology has changed the centralized management model of the existing environmental monitoring system by virtue of its decentralized and non-tampering characteristics. However, with the increase in the amount of monitoring data, the environmental monitoring blockchain system is faced with a large number of computing and communication overhead caused by data consensus, which affects the normal collection, calculation, and upload of environmental monitoring data. Aiming at the above problems, this paper proposes a credit grouping Byzantine fault-tolerant(CGBFT) mechanism which is suitable for environmental monitoring blockchain scenarios. First, the reliability analysis is performed based on the authenticity and integrity of the data transmitted by the monitoring nodes to obtain the credit value of each node as the basis for selecting the master node. Second, the consistency protocol of PBFT is optimized for the characteristics of the environmental monitoring blockchain system to meet the data consensus strategy of high throughput and reliable fault tolerance. The scheme analysis shows that the improved PBFT consensus mechanism can effectively solve the problems of high communication overhead and low efficiency in the system performance. © 2022 IEEE.

Aiming at the truck scheduling problem in the open-pit mine scenario, a truck scheduling model based on real-time ore blending is established, and an adaptive evolution algorithm for truck scheduling based on DCNSGA-III is proposed. In the established scheduling model, the real-time grade variance of the crushing plant is minimized as one of the optimization objectives, and the Q-learning algorithm is introduced to adaptively select one of the most effective operators during the search process. Experiments show that the proposed method can effectively control the grade fluctuation of the ore flow and better scheduling schemes are obtained in comparison with algorithms equipped with the traditional search operator selection methods. © 2023 IEEE.

The accuracy of kernel estimation is critical to the performance of blind super-resolution (SR). Traditional kernel estimation methods usually use L1 or L2 loss function to minimize the difference between the estimated kernel and the ground-truth kernel. This tends to make the estimated kernel converge towards the average of all possible kernels, deviating from the ground-truth kernel. To improve the performance of kernel estimation, this paper proposes an uncertainty loss for training a kernel estimation network, focusing on regions with high uncertainty (variance) in the kernel. In addition, a texture-aware SR network is proposed that utilizes the Gumbel Softmax trick to pay more attention to the complex regions of the image texture, thus improving the SR performance. Extensive experiments on synthetic datasets show that our approach achieves promising performance.

CONTINUOUS-TIME IDENTIFICATION OF DYNAMIC STATE-SPACE MODELS BY DEEP SUBSPACE ENCODING

Continuous-time (CT) modeling has proven to provide improved sample efficiency and interpretability in learning the dynamical behavior of physical systems compared to discrete-time (DT) models. However, even with numerous recent developments, the CT nonlinear state-space (NL-SS) model identification problem remains to be solved in full, considering common experimental aspects such as the presence of external inputs, measurement noise, latent states, and general robustness. This paper presents a novel estimation method that addresses all these aspects and that can obtain state-of-the-art results on multiple benchmarks with compact fully connected neural networks capturing the CT dynamics. The proposed estimation method called the subspace encoder approach (SUBNET) ascertains these results by efficiently approximating the complete simulation loss by evaluating short simulations on subsections of the data, by using an encoder function to estimate the initial state for each subsection and a novel state-derivative normalization to ensure stability and good numerical conditioning of the training process. We prove that the use of subsections increases cost function smoothness together with the necessary requirements for the existence of the encoder function and we show that the proposed state-derivative normalization is essential for reliable estimation of CT NL-SS models. © 2022, CC BY.

A production scheduling and control system for CAR T cell manufacturing

This paper addresses some of the new challenges posed by scheduling and controlling the production of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells for personalized therapies. In this therapy, the patient’s T cells are genetically modified by adding a gene for a receptor to help T cells attach to the cancer cell antigens. Then, the modified cells are grown and multiplied (called cell expansion) and finally returned to the patient. The production takes place in a manufacturing system that comprises several devices, which are capable of processing cells from multiple patients at the same time. The efficient operation of such a complex system requires a sophisticated control system accompanied by a scheduler to optimize the production of CAR T cells for several patients simultaneously. We propose a scheduling algorithm, which can handle the uncertain duration of cell expansion, and the maximum time lags between consecutive processes simultaneously, a combination hardly studied in the literature. We also describe the main features of an adaptive control system including service-oriented device connections as well as centralized control and monitoring. Finally, we describe how the overall system works, including a JSON based communication between scheduler and control system.

UNet and its variants have widespread applications in medical image segmentation. However, the substantial number of parameters and computational complexity of these models make them less suitable for use in clinical settings with limited computational resources. To address this limitation, we propose a novel Lightweight Shift U-Net (LSU-Net). We integrate the Light Conv Block and the Tokenized Shift Block in a lightweight manner, combining them with a dynamic weight multi-loss design for efficient dynamic weight allocation. The Light Conv Block effectively captures features with a low parameter count by combining standard convolutions with depthwise separable convolutions. The Tokenized Shift Block optimizes feature representation by shifting and capturing deep features through a combination of the Spatial Shift Block and depthwise separable convolutions. Dynamic adjustment of the loss weights at each layer approaches the optimal solution and enhances training stability. We validated LSU-Net on the UWMGI and MSD Colon datasets, and experimental results demonstrate that LSU-Net outperforms most state-of-the-art segmentation architectures.

Our paper introduces a novel structural health monitoring (SHM) framework for preexisting surveillance camera video footage towards an automated structural engineering e-governance system in a smart city. We test our framework on a sample pole structure using a high-resolution camera and an off-the-shelf phone camera. A preliminary study suggests the efficacy of using the framework in monitoring noticeable degradation and aging in large structures in periodically captured images. Our framework is dissimilar to computer vision techniques in which deformation patterns are recognized;instead, our framework is purposed as a long term observation application in which large structures in public video surveillance footage is monitored for changes that may suggest signs of aging or degradation of a structure over a long period of time. We posit that this novel framework, with emerging technology and innovation, can pave the way to combine artificial intelligence and smart structural health monitoring techniques in a widespread, unprecedented way of ensuring safe public structures in smart cities. © 2021 IEEE.

This paper proposes a mapping uncertainty-aware point-wise Lidar Inertial Odometry (LIO), which synthesizes the point-wise point-to-plane match and map refreshment into a probabilistic model. As a result, it can address the issue of mismatching during point registration and remove in-frame motion distortion of Lidar sensors. Specifically, the uncertainty-aware map is designed to embody the uncertainty of map geometric features (points and planes), which comes from the Lidar point measurement and pose estimation. Then the map can be modeled in a probabilistic form. In addition, the proposed framework refreshes map at each Lidar point measurement to timely revise geometric features and provide non-delayed map. On the basis, the probabilistic point-to-plane match method is designed to seek a corresponding plane for each Lidar point in point registration, which can enhance the effectiveness of match and provide adaptive observation noises for more accurate state estimation. Comparative experiments on various public datasets are conducted to demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed framework in terms of higher accuracy and better robustness.

The importance of proper data normalization for deep neural networks is well known. However, in continuous-time state-space model estimation, it has been observed that improper normalization of either the hidden state or hidden state derivative of the model estimate, or even of the time interval can lead to numerical and optimization challenges with deep learning based methods. This results in a reduced model quality. In this contribution, we show that these three normalization tasks are inherently coupled. Due to the existence of this coupling, we propose a solution to all three normalization challenges by introducing a normalization constant at the state derivative level. We show that the appropriate choice of the normalization constant is related to the dynamics of the to-be-identified system and we derive multiple methods of obtaining an effective normalization constant. We compare and discuss all the normalization strategies on a benchmark problem based on experimental data from a cascaded tanks system and compare our results with other methods of the identification literature.

In order to enpower the hight performance as well as interpretability of low-order TSK fuzzy classifier, a born-again TSK fuzzy classier embedded with decoupled fuzzy dark knowledge distillation called HTSK-LLM-DKD is proposed in this study. HTSK-LLM DKD achieves the following distinctive characteristics: 1) It takes high-order TSK as teacher model and low-order TSK fuzzy classifier as student model, and leverages the proposed Least Learning Machine based Decoupling Knowledge Distillation to distill the fuzzy dark knowledge from high-order TSK fuzzy classifier to low-order TSK fuzzy classifier, which resulting in low-order TSK fuzzy classifier endowed with enhanced performance surpassing or at least comparable to high-order TSK fuzzy classifier;specifically 2) The Negative Euclidean distance between the output of teacher model and each class is employed to obtain the teacher logits, and then it computes teacher/student soft labels by the softmax function with distilling temperature parameter;3) By reformulating the Kullback Leibler divergence, it decouples fuzzy dark knowledge into target class knowledge and non-target class knowledge, and transfers them to student model, which taking HTSK-LLM-DKD with outstanding performance and relatively fast running speed. Extensive experiment results on UCI benchmarking datasets and real-world dataset Cleveland Heart Disease demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed HTSK-LLM-DKD. © 2024, The Authors.
