Fault-induced gear meshing modulation sideband extraction and evaluation for fault diagnosis of planetary gearboxes

Gearboxes,known for their compact size and stable transmission capability,are widely used as power transmission structures in various types of mechanical equipment,such as wind turbines,helicopters,and special ***,due to harsh and non-stationary working conditions,gear surfaces often deteriorate,leading to faults such as wear,pitting,and ***,it is vital to monitor the working status of gearboxes and diagnose gear faults as early as *** faults can induce characteristic modulation effects near the gear meshing frequency(GMF),resulting in the appearance of faultinduced sidebands in a vibration *** of these sidebands allows for the diagnosis of gear faults in a ***,when faced with a planetary gearbox having a complex configuration,strong background noise and additional faultunrelated sidebands can interfere with fault-induced sidebands,making accurate diagnosis *** address these challenging issues,this paper proposes a novel fault-induced gear meshing modulation sideband extraction *** the process,the sidebands directly related to the gear fault near the GMF are first identified and then extracted by a variational harmonic mode decomposition(VHMD)***,a fault-related gear meshing modulation component(GMMC)can be accurately reconstructed by summing up the extracted fault-induced *** the GMMC,the gear fault severity can be assessed by evaluating its amplitude modulation(AM)*** superior performance of the proposed method is finally demonstrated by experimental data.

Ultra-low power MoS2 optoelectronic synapse with wavelength sensitivity for color target recognition

Optoelectronic synapses that integrate visual perception and pre-processing hold significant potential for neuromorphic vision systems（NVSs）. However, due to a lack of wavelength sensitivity, existing NVS mainly focuses on gray-scale image processing, making it challenging to recognize color images. Additionally, the high power consumption of optoelectronic synapses, compared to the 10 fJ energy consumption of biological synapses, limits their broader application. To address these challenges, an energy-efficient NVS capable of color target recognition in a noisy environment was developed,utilizing a MoS2optoelectronic synapse with wavelength sensitivity. Benefiting from the distinct photon capture capabilities of 450, 535, and 650 nm light, the optoelectronic synapse exhibits wavelength-dependent synaptic plasticity, including excitatory postsynaptic current（EPSC）, paired-pulse facilitation（PPF）, and long-term plasticity（LTP）. These properties can effectively mimic the visual memory and color discrimination functions of the human vision system. Results demonstrate that the NVS, based on MoS2optoelectronic synapses, can eliminate the color noise at the sensor level, increasing color image recognition accuracy from 50% to 90%. Importantly, the optoelectronic synapse operates at a low voltage spike of0.0005 V, consuming only 0.075 fJ per spike, surpassing the energy efficiency of both existing optoelectronic and biological synapses. This ultra-low power, color-sensitive device eliminates the need for color filters and offers great promise for future deployment in filter-free NVS.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) are developing so fast that they can bring revolutionary changes in ecological sustainability, public health, and community welfare. In contrast, the present waste management system has a set of inefficiencies due to some challenges, such as poor waste stream segregation, limited real-time data analysis, and negligible integration of recent technology. These challenges lead to environmental degradation, public health hazards, and inefficient usage of resources. This research targets these challenges by designing an IWM framework like AI-IoT for smart waste management. The system employs AI models powered by IoT sensors for efficient waste collection, classification, and optimization of recycling schedules. CNN (convolutional neural networks) with transfer learning enabled by Res-Net provides high-accuracy image recognition, which can be used for waste classification. Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) allow multilingual users to interact and communicate properly in any linguistic environment. Data collected from IoT-enabled smart bins is transmitted in real-time to a central control system for dynamic decision-making and follow-up analysis. A pilot exercise to verify the system's effectiveness was implemented in metropolitan settings to show the transformation: landfill dependency was decreased by 30 %, recycling efficiency was greatly increased to 90 %, and thus the cost of waste management was optimized. At the same time, environmental health inequity, causing pathogen-related threats, was reduced by 35 %. The model has an accuracy of 96.8 %. The features of the proposed framework not only provide solutions to the existing inefficiencies but also enhance scalability, cost-effectiveness, and global environmental standardization. Accurate Sparse Conformal Mesh Generation Method for Reducing Spatial Redundancy in Conformal FDTD

A 3D-CAD-based sparse conformal mesh generation (SC-MG) method is proposed to distinguish between conformal and nonconformal cells and calculate the volume fraction of perfectly matched object boundaries. A sparse conformal finite difference time domain (SC-FDTD) method specifically adapted to the SC-MG approach is also developed, which uses sparse storage to reduce the spatial redundancy of the FDTD iterative coefficients. The SC-MG method with lower time complexity is demonstrated to effectively resolve the distortion and loss of surface of the marching cubes (MC) based method. The SC-FDTD has been shown to combine the benefits of low spatial redundancy of the staircase FDTD with the high accuracy characteristic of the conformal FDTD. © 2002-2011 IEEE.

Carbonyl iron absorbers(CI)face significant challenges in practical applications,such as corrosion,interface bonding failure,detachment,and high maintenance ***,we have developed intelligent self-healing technology based on proactive/passive mechanisms via in situ synthesis of self-healing factors(polydopamine/benzotriazole(PDA/BTA))and physical barrier layers(SiO_(2)/1,1,1,3,3,3-hexamethyl disilazane,SiO_(2)/HMDS)to enhance corrosion resistance,while also being compatible with efficient microwave absorption *** unique multiscale structure gives full play to the utilization of the roles of each functional layer,including the intelligent self-healing features of PDA/BTA,physical shielding and spatial confinement characteristics of SiO_(2)/HMDS,and magnetic-dielectric synergistic mechanism resulted from the good impedance matching characteristics,the conduction loss,the interfacial polarization loss and natural *** asfabricated composites achieved an exceptional minimum reflection loss value of-55.4 dB at 10.7 GHz and the effective absorption band of 7.6 ***,it still exhibits obvious self-healing and corrosion resistance characteristics after 360 h corrosion treatment,ascribed to the self-healing mechanism of PDA/BTA and the blocking intervention effect of SiO_(2)/*** work is considered to pave the way for the synthesis of high-performance magnetic absorbers,especially in enhancing their intelligent self-healing ability in corrosive environments.

Cross-view object geo-localization (CVOGL) aims to locate an object of interest in a captured ground- or drone-view image within the satellite image. However, existing works treat ground-view and drone-view query images equivalently, overlooking their inherent viewpoint discrepancies and the spatial correlation between the query image and the satellite-view reference image. To this end, this paper proposes a novel View-specific Attention Geo-localization method (VAGeo) for accurate CVOGL. Specifically, VAGeo contains two key modules: view-specific positional encoding (VSPE) module and channel-spatial hybrid attention (CSHA) module. In object-level, according to the characteristics of different viewpoints of ground and drone query images, viewpoint-specific positional codings are designed to more accurately identify the click-point object of the query image in the VSPE module. In feature-level, a hybrid attention in the CSHA module is introduced by combining channel attention and spatial attention mechanisms simultaneously for learning discriminative features. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the proposed VAGeo gains a significant performance improvement, i.e., improving acc@0.25/acc@0.5 on the CVOGL dataset from 45.43%/42.24% to 48.21%/45.22% for ground-view, and from 61.97%/57.66% to 66.19%/61.87% for drone-view. © 2025 IEEE.

Modeling and Experimental Study of an Open Two-Phase Loop Driven by Osmotic Pressure and Capillary Force

As space technology advances,thermal control systems must effectively collect and dissipate heat from distributed,multi-source *** heat pipe is a highly reliable two-phase heat transfer component,but it has several limitations when addressing multi-source heat *** by the transport and heat dissipation system of plants,large trees achieve stable and efficient liquid supply under the influence of two driving forces:capillary force during transpiration in the leaves(pull)and root pressure generated by osmotic pressure in the roots(push).The root pressure provides an effective liquid supply with a driving force exceeding 2 MPa,far greater than the driving force in conventional capillary-pumped two-phase *** has shown that osmotic heat pipes offer a powerful driving force,and combining osmotic pressure with capillary force has significant ***,this paper designs a multi-evaporator,dual-drive two-phase loop,using both osmotic pressure and capillary force to solve the multi-source heat dissipation ***,a transmembrane water flux model for the osmotic pressure-driven device was established to predict the maximum heat transfer capacity of the dual-drive two-phase ***,an experimental setup for a multi-evaporator“osmotic pressure+capillary force”dual-drive two-phase loop was constructed,capable of transferring at least 235 W of power under a reverse gravity condition of 20 *** study also analyzed the effects of reverse gravity height,heat load distribution among the three evaporators,startup sequence,and varying branch resistances on the performance of the dual-drive two-phase loop.

High-temperature electronic ceramics are indispensable in applications such as the automotive sector, aerospace, oil exploration and other fields. Potassium sodium niobate-based (KNN-based) ceramics have emerged as critical materials for the development of environmentally friendly high-temperature sensors, filters, and other electronic devices. However, achieving a combination of superior piezoelectric properties and a high Curie temperature in KNN-based ceramics remains a significant challenge. In this study, we employed a strategy of constructing an orthorhombic-tetragonal (O-T) phase boundary with the objective of enhancing the piezoelectric properties of KNN-based ceramics and introduced Li+ to optimize the Curie temperature. In (1-x)K0.48Na0.52NbO3-xBi0.5Li0.5HfO3 ceramics, we realized high piezoelectric constant ∼ 340 pC/N, large strain (∼0.21 %) and elevated Curie temperature (Tc ∼ 354 °C) simultaneously. These findings not only identify a promising candidate for high-temperature sensors and filters but also provide valuable insights for advancing the design of high Curie temperature and lead-free piezoelectric ceramics based on KNN systems. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.

MCFF-Net: Multi-Scale Contextual Feature Fusion Network for Polyp Segmentation

In clinical practice, technologies for automatically segmenting polyps might greatly improve the speed and accuracy of medical diagnosis, significantly reducing the chances of patients developing colorectal cancer. Nevertheless, the segmentation of polyps presents a considerable challenge due to their low contrast, presence of occlusion, and intricate background disturbances. In this paper, we propose an innovative approach for segmenting polyps, called multi-scale contextual feature fusion network for polyp segmentation (MCFF-Net). Specifically, MCFF-Net includes three modules: feature enhancement module (FEM), global-local feature fusion module (GLFF), and cross-scale feature fusion module (CFFM). Among them, FEM is used to improve the features at each scale. Building on this, the CFFM enables comprehensive interaction among the information across various scales, enhancing the diversity of the feature scales extracted. Moreover, the GLFF fuses global-local features to generate a rough object localization map. This map further modulates the fusion features from the CFFM, facilitating more precise segmentation. On five publicly available datasets, our approach not only segments various polyp types but also surpasses existing methods in terms of accuracy and generalizability. © Shanghai Jiao Tong University 2024.
