Smart fiber-optic masks: real-time respiratory monitoring and health analysis

In this study, we design a smart mask based on an ultrathin retractable flexible fiber optic sensor with high sensitivity(0.56 V/m-1), ultra-light mass（0.24 g）, and excellent tensile properties. The sensor was integrated with a medical mask to recognize multiple breathing patterns（standard, fast, slow, shallow, deep, breath-holding）, coughing, and speaking,as well as to study gender characteristics and physiological differences in the respiratory system. By comparing the nasal-oral respiratory waveforms and frequencies, guidance for respiratory correction was provided. In addition, affixing flexible fiber optic sensors to the outside of the mask reduces the risk of cross-infection and significantly reduces temperature and humidity disturbances. Studies have shown that nine sensor locations placed on the outside of the mask responded significantly to respiratory waveforms. For personalized health management, the system is also equipped with a communication module,web and mobile apps to support data downloads, real-time monitoring, and exception alerts.

Carbon-based single-atom catalysts(SACs)have been widely studied in the field of biomedicine due to their excellent catalytic ***,carbon-based SACs usually aggregate during pyrolysis,which leads to the reduction of catalytic ***,we describe a method to improve the monodispersion of SACs using silicon dioxide as a protective *** decoration of silicon dioxide serves as a buffer layer for individual nanoparticles,which is not destroyed during the pyrolysis process,ensuring the single-particle dispersion of the nanoparticles after *** approach increased the hydroxyl groups on the surface of Fe-SAC(Fe-SAC-SE)and improved its water solubility,resulting in a four times enhancement of the peroxidase(POD)-like activity of Fe-SAC-SE(58.4 U/mg)than that of non-protected SACs(13.9 U/mg).The SiO_(2)-protection approach could also improve the catalytic activities of SACs with other metals such as Mn,Co,Ni,and Cu,indicating its generality for SACs *** advantage of the high POD-like activity,photothermal properties,and large specific surface area of Fe-SAC-SE,we constructed a synergistic therapeutic system(Fe-SAC-SE@DOX@PEG)for combining the photothermal therapy,catalytic therapy,and *** was verified that the photothermal properties of Fe-SAC-SE@DOX@PEG could effectively improve its POD-like activity,exhibiting excellent tumor-killing performance at the cellular *** work may provide a general approach to improve the performances of SACs for disease therapy and diagnosis.

For the carbon-based catalyst to be active and stable,especially in harsh electrochemical environments,the key is to decrease the concentration of defects and raise the degree of graphitization of the carbon ***,we develop a highly graphitized graphene foam with multiplicated structure to fabricate self-supporting Pt-based catalysts for efficient and stable hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)*** foam(GO-2850)is obtained through an ultra-high temperature treatment at 2850℃,with perfect graphene structure and extremely low defect,ensuring high electrical conductivity and corrosion ***,its multiplicated structure provides an inherently favorable environment for the dispersion of Pt nanoparticles(Pt NPs)and offers abundant channels for electrolyte infiltration during the catalytic *** a result,the as-prepared Pt/GO-2850 is far active and stable than the Pt NPs supported on commercial carbon paper(Pt/CP)counterpart toward catalyzing HER,exhibiting an outstanding activity and long-term durability(300 h@10 mA·cm^(−2))in acidic/alkaline/seawater *** can be attributed to the stronger interaction between the lower-defect GO-2850 substrate and Pt,as evidenced by characterization and theoretical *** work extends further insight into the design self-supporting catalysts of high activity and stability with promising prominent application toward green energy devices.

As a crucial auxiliary technique in inertial navigation, scene matching has been widely applied in aircraft navigation and guidance. To enhance the adaptability and efficiency of scene matching algorithms in complex environments, existing approaches have gradually shifted towards heterogeneous scene matching, such as optical/ infrared scene matching based on deep learning features, with a focus on point features. However, due to the complex and diverse nonlinear distortions between optical and infrared images, the matching accuracy often fails to meet the practical requirements of navigation and positioning. In view of this problem, an EPM-Net algorithm based on edge features is proposed to improve matching performance by extracting more stable and discriminative edge point descriptors. Experimental results on infrared datasets demonstrate that this method achieves an average matching accuracy improvement of more than four times compared to traditional and existing deep learning methods. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. High-precision localization technology is attracting widespread attention in harsh indoor *** this paper,we present a fingerprint localization and tracking system to estimate the locations of the tag based on a deep belief network(DBN).In this system,we propose using coefficients as fingerprints to combine the ultra-wideband(UWB)and inertial measurement unit(IMU)estimation linearly,termed as a HUID *** particular,the fingerprints are trained by a DBN and estimated by a radial basis function(RBF).However,UWB-based estimation via a trilateral method is severely affected by the non-line-of-sight(NLoS)problem,which limits the localization *** tackle this problem,we adopt the random forest classifier to identify line-of-sight(LoS)and NLoS ***,we adopt the random forest regressor to mitigate ranging errors based on the identification results for improving UWB localization *** experimental results show that the mean square error(MSE)of the localization error for the proposed HUID system reduces by 12.96%,50.16%,and 64.92%compared with that of the existing extended Kalman filter(EKF),single UWB,and single IMU estimation methods,respectively.

Improving path planning efficiency for underwater gravity-aided navigation based on a new depth sorting fast search algorithm

This study focuses on the improvement of path planning efficiency for underwater gravity-aided ***,a Depth Sorting Fast Search(DSFS)algorithm was proposed to improve the planning speed of the Quick Rapidly-exploring Random Trees*(Q-RRT*)algorithm.A cost inequality relationship between an ancestor and its descendants was derived,and the ancestors were filtered ***,the underwater gravity-aided navigation path planning system was designed based on the DSFS algorithm,taking into account the fitness,safety,and asymptotic optimality of the routes,according to the gravity suitability distribution of the navigation ***,experimental comparisons of the computing performance of the ChooseParent procedure,the Rewire procedure,and the combination of the two procedures for Q-RRT*and DSFS were conducted under the same planning environment and parameter conditions,*** results showed that the computational efficiency of the DSFS algorithm was improved by about 1.2 times compared with the Q-RRT*algorithm while ensuring correct computational results.

In order to add more infrared excitation methods, the infrared thermal wave detection method of thermal barrier coating excited by hot water bath is put forward, and the three-dimensional simulation model of thermal barrier coating is established to simulate the thermal barrier coating heated by water vapor. The temperature field changes of different debonding defects diameters at different times are analyzed. The results show that when water vapor covers the whole contact surface, the image acquisition effect is the best. Different debonding defects diameters have little effect on contrast, but have great influence on temperature difference. Therefore, the combination of appropriate infrared thermal imager and hot water bath method can detect very small debonding defects. When the water vapor covers the whole contact surface, the image acquisition effect is the best. © 2024 SPIE.
