The growing demand for energy-efficient communication systems has triggered the interest in using photovoltaic (PV) panels to power optical receivers in Visible Light Communication (VLC) systems. While this approach offers the enticing advantage of self-powered operation, it comes with a significant drawback of limited bandwidth. This limitation severely restricts the maximum data rate achievable through VLC channels, especially when compared to digital audio transmission which requires high bandwidth due to sampling and resolution needs. Therefore, a key challenge lies in finding a balance between the energy-harvesting benefits of PV receivers and the need for a sufficient data rate for specific VLC applications. This work evaluates experimentally the possibility to transmit using VLC the voice in the analogue domain when the transmission of the digital conversion of limited by the bandwidth of the PV-based receiver. The results show that speech can be received properly in analogue domain when the transmission of the digital conversion is not possible due to limited bandwidth of the PV panel. The results show that the PV panel is able to receive speech with cross-correlation factors above 0.94. On the other hand, a 128 KHz digital signal, that is transmitted over the same optical channel, is not visible at the receiver side.

This paper proposes an innovative Dynamic Principal Component Analysis (DPCA) scheme to perform fault detection and identification (FDI) for systems affected by process faults. In this scheme, a new modeling method is proposed to fix the data lag and the number of principal components to retain. A new structuration method is introduced to identify the process fault. It is based on the computation of common angles between residual subspaces of different modes. This structuration yields a concise set of detection indices, specifically sensitive to certain process faults while remaining unsensitive to others. The proposed FDI scheme is successfully applied to a three tank affected by several process faults.

Recent years have seen a rapid development in Machine Learning, which has profoundly influenced many areas of science and engineering. Among them, computer vision takes the leading place, where important tasks are image classifications powered by CNNs. Despite the great performance of CNNs in complicated scenarios, they remain sensitive to so-called adversarial attacks, and deliberate perturbations leading them to incorrect predictions. Besides more innocuous consequences, this has serious security implications for critical applications, in-cluding medical diagnostics, where misclassifications might result in disastrous outcomes. This research work discusses adversarial attacks on CNNs and other DNNs in computer vision, studying a full range of the generation and detection methods with details while discussing intrinsic vulnerability and robustness. It also proposes a learning framework that will enhance the robustness and security of DNNs and CNNs against such adversarial perils. The ultimate goal is directed to an improvement in the reliability of such models in absolutely critical scenarios for safe deployment into applications where accuracy is crucial.

Active power dispatch of wind farms plays an important role in power grid scheduling. In this paper, a data-driven active power dispatch strategy for wind farms is proposed, which uses the key point of minimizing the standard deviation of wind turbines' output power series to reduce their fluctuations. First, to build the optimization problem, the historical active power output data of each wind turbine is collected from the Supervisory control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. Then, the objective function is developed based on the idea of minimizing the standard deviation of the output power time series. Meanwhile, considering the constraints of wind turbines' output power and active power balance of the grid, the feasible domain of the cost function is constructed. Further, to solve the proposed nonlinear optimization problem with equality and inequality constraints, the trust region interior point method (TRIPM) is employed to explore optimal solution within the feasible domain. Finally, actual data collected from wind farms is used to test effectiveness of the designed approach and experimental results show that our method can achieve better output power smoothing performance than conventional Proportional Dispatch (PD) method.
