Due to the light absorption and scattering induced by the water medium, underwater images usually suffer from some degradation problems, such as low contrast, color distortion, and blurring details, which aggravate the difficulty of downstream underwater understanding tasks. Therefore, how to obtain clear and visually pleasant images has become a common concern of people, and the task of underwater image enhancement (UIE) has also emerged as the times require. Among existing UIE methods, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) based methods perform well in visual aesthetics, while the physical model-based methods have better scene adaptability. Inheriting the advantages of the above two types of models, we propose a physical model-guided GAN model for UIE in this paper, referred to as PUGAN. The entire network is under the GAN architecture. On the one hand, we design a Parameters Estimation subnetwork (Par-subnet) to learn the parameters for physical model inversion, and use the generated color enhancement image as auxiliary information for the Two-Stream Interaction Enhancement subnetwork (TSIE-subnet). Meanwhile, we design a Degradation Quantization (DQ) module in TSIE-subnet to quantize scene degradation, thereby achieving reinforcing enhancement of key regions. On the other hand, we design the Dual-Discriminators for the style-content adversarial constraint, promoting the authenticity and visual aesthetics of the results. Extensive experiments on three benchmark datasets demonstrate that our PUGAN outperforms state-of-the-art methods in both qualitative and quantitative metrics. This paper investigates the bipartite flocking behavior of multi-agent systems with coopetition interactions, where communications between agents are described by signed digraphs. The scenario with switching topologies due to the movement of agents, and time delays caused by the limited data transmission capability, is considered comprehensively. Nonlinear weight functions are designed to describe the relationship between the communication distance of agents and the coopetition degree in real biological networks. A distributed update rule based on the neighbors' information and the designed weight functions is proposed. By the aid of the graph theory and sub-stochastic matrix properties, the effectiveness of the proposed update rule is proved theoretically, and the algebraic conditions for achieving the bipartite flocking behavior are obtained. Finally, the theoretical results are verified by numerical simulations.

In the process of steel plate production, predicting the plate shape is of great significance for producing high-quality and consistently stable plate shapes. This paper presents a model that predicts both the defect types and flatness of the plate, providing theoretical support for setting process parameters in roller quenching production. First, the parameters of the quenching process are analyzed to identify their characteristics. Then, the K-Means clustering algorithm and correlation analysis are employed to process the quenching process parameters. A gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT) model is used to predict the defect types and flatness of the steel plates. Finally, industrial production data is utilized for experimental validation. The obtained experimental results verify the reliability of the proposed method.

A Distributed control framework for the optimal operation of DC microgrids

In this paper we propose an original distributed control framework for DC mcirogrids. We first formulate the (optimal) control objectives as an aggregative game suitable for the energy trading market. Then, based on the dual theory, we analyze the equivalent distributed optimal condition for the proposed aggregative game and design a distributed control scheme to solve it. By interconnecting the DC mcirogrid and the designed distributed control system in a power preserving way, we steer the DC microgrid's state to the desired optimal equilibrium, satisfying a predefined set of local and coupling constraints. Finally, based on the singular perturbation system theory, we analyze the convergence of the closed-loop system. AutoFlow: Hotspot-aware, dynamic load balancing for distributed stream processing

Stream applications are widely deployed on the cloud. While modern distributed streaming systems like Flink and Spark Streaming can schedule and execute them efficiently, streaming dataflows are often dynamically changing, which may cause computation imbalance and backpressure. We introduce AutoFlow, an automatic, hotspot-aware dynamic load balance system for streaming dataflows. It incorporates a centralized scheduler which monitors the load balance in the entire dataflow dynamically and implements state migrations correspondingly. The scheduler achieves these two tasks using a simple asynchronous distributed control message mechanism and a hotspot-diminishing algorithm. The timing mechanism supports implicit barriers and a highly efficient state-migration without global barriers or pauses to operators. It also supports a time-window based load-balance measurement and feeds them to the hotspot-diminishing algorithm without user interference. We implemented AutoFlow on top of Ray, an actor-based distributed execution framework. Our evaluation based on various streaming benchmark dataset shows that AutoFlow achieves good loadbalance and incurs a low latency overhead in highly data-skew workload. © 2021, CC BY.

With the rapid advances in computer vision, human action recognition has gradually received attention, but the current methods still exhibit some problems in indoor environments. The human skeleton, as the framework of human motion, contains high-quality actional feature information, and the skeleton-based action recognition method effectively avoid the interference of interior background noise and has advantages in indoor action recognition. The outstanding effect of graph convolutional networks on graph structure data processing has led to its rapid development and wide application in skeleton-based action recognition. Second-order skeletal information also contains a large number of actional features but is not effectively utilized. The artificial predefined topology of the human skeleton map has limitations, and cannot reflect the interaction between limbs. To solve the above problems, this article designs an adaptive weighted multi-stream graph convolutional network (AM-GCN) based on skeletal information, using an attention mechanism to enhance the network's ability to extract actional features, and an adaptive layer to make the construction graph more flexible, incorporating second-order skeletal features through a dual-stream architecture. In this article, the NTU-RGB+D dataset has been used for the experiments, the results show that the method in this article has good results.

Spatial pooling (SP) and cross-channel pooling (CCP) operators have been applied to aggregate spatial features and pixel-wise features from feature maps in deep neural networks (DNNs), respectively. Their main goal is to reduce computation and memory overhead without visibly weakening the performance of DNNs. However, SP often faces the problem of losing the subtle feature representations, while CCP has a high possibility of ignoring salient feature representations, which may lead to both miscalibration of confidence issues and suboptimal medical classification results. To address these problems, we propose a novel dual-view framework, the first to systematically investigate the relative roles of SP and CCP by analyzing the difference between spatial features and pixel-wise features. Based on this framework, we propose a new pooling method, termed dual-view pyramid pooling (DVPP), to aggregate multi-scale dual-view features. DVPP aims to boost both medical image classification and confidence calibration performance by fully leveraging the merits of SP and CCP operators from a dual-axis perspective. Additionally, we discuss how to fulfill DVPP with five parameter-free implementations. Extensive experiments on six 2D/3D medical image classification tasks show that our DVPP surpasses state-of-the-art pooling methods in terms of medical image classification results and confidence calibration across different DNNs. © 2024, CC BY.

This paper investigates the transmission design of an active reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system. A sensing beampattern matching mean squared error (MSE) minimization problem is formulated under constraints of the power budgets at the base station and the RIS, the amplification factor of the RIS and the information rate requirements of users, by jointly optimizing the transmit beamforming vectors, the covariance matrix of the sensing signal and the reflection coefficients of the RIS. The considered problem is solved in an alternative optimization manner by decomposing the original problem into two sub-problems, where each sub-problem is solved via semi-definite relaxation (SDR) and successive convex approximation (SCA). The tightness of applying SDR is theoretically proved. Simulation results verify the convergence behavior and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. It is also shown that the active RIS is able to improve the sensing beampattern matching performance by enhancing the information transmission.

Generative Diffusion Models (GDMs) have emerged as a transformative force in the realm of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), demonstrating their versatility and efficacy across various applications. The ability to model complex data distributions and generate high-quality samples has made GDMs particularly effective in tasks such as image generation and reinforcement learning. Furthermore, their iterative nature, which involves a series of noise addition and denoising steps, is a powerful and unique approach to learning and generating data. This paper serves as a comprehensive tutorial on applying GDMs in network optimization tasks. We delve into the strengths of GDMs, emphasizing their wide applicability across various domains, such as vision, text, and audio generation. We detail how GDMs can be effectively harnessed to solve complex optimization problems inherent in networks. The paper first provides a basic background of GDMs and their applications in network optimization. This is followed by a series of case studies, showcasing the integration of GDMs with Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL), incentive mechanism design, Semantic Communications (SemCom), Internet of Vehicles (IoV) networks, etc. These case studies underscore the practicality and efficacy of GDMs in real-world scenarios, offering insights into network design. We conclude with a discussion on potential future directions for GDM research and applications, providing major insights into how they can continue to shape the future of network optimization. © 2023, CC BY.

Despite several attempts to enhance the electrical and charge carrier transport characteristics of porous silicon (PSi), the requisite conditions for optimally synthesizing n-PSi with appealing optoelectronic properties are yet to be achieved. Therefore, this research explores the effect of the chemical ratio of precursor materials (HF:C2H6O:H2O2) on the surface morphology, crystalline structure, and optical and electric properties of PSi. The PSi was produced by photoelectrochemical etching followed by anodization of the n-type Si under light illumination. The properties of the as-prepared PSi were studied by means of microscopic and spectroscopic techniques. The HF:C2H6O:H2O2 chemical ratio was optimized at 2: 1: 1. A metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM) ultraviolet photodetector (Pt/n-PSi/Pt) was fabricated, which exhibited high performances under UV light (365 nm) illumination. The photodetector was shown to be highly stable and reliable with a rapid rise time of 0.56 s at a bias voltage of +5 V. The MSM photodetector displayed responsivity (Rp) of 9.17 A/m at 365 nm, which significantly exceeds the values reported for TiC/porous Si/Si in some contemporary research. The photodetector fabricated from n-PSi, synthesized at an optimum chemical ratio (2: 1: 1) exhibited the best photodetection performance, possibly due to the high porosity and defect-free state of the n-PSi thin films. © 2023 Asad A.
