An algebraic formulation is proposed for the static output feedback (SOF) problem: the Hermite stability criterion is applied on the closed-loop characteristic polynomial, resulting in a non-convex bilinear matrix inequality (BMI) optimization problem for SIMO or MISO systems. As a result, the BMI problem is formulated directly in the controller parameters, without additional Lyapunov variables. The publicly available solver PENBMI 2.0 interfaced with YALMIP 3.0 is then applied to solve benchmark examples. Implementation and numerical aspects are widely discussed.

The paper offers the possibility of the design of unknown input detection for dynamic systems under external noise effect. The presented geometric based fundamental problem in residual generation (FPRG) method uses on the one hand the Kalman filtering and on the other hand the moving horizon estimation (MHE) when stochastic noise on the input and on the output, with additive failure directions, are presents. The paper combines the optimal Kalman and MHE method with geometric based unknown input observer strategy. The MHE solution makes to treat constraints during the estimation process possible. A systematic methodology for generating multi-folded torus chaotic attractors from a simple three-dimensional piecewise-linear system is presented in this paper. Theoretical analysis shows that multi-folded torus chaotic attractors can be created via alternative switching between two piecewise-linear systems. A novel circuit diagram is designed for physically creating multi-folded torus chaotic attractors. This is the first time in the literature to experimentally verify a maximum 9-folded torus chaotic attractor that is generated by an analog circuit.

The paper focuses on the stochastic modelling of the quasi-periodic intermittent demand patterns, which arise in the inventory management of the “slow moving items” such as service parts or high-priced capital goods. It is proposed a new stochastic model, which describes the demand patterns with essentially non-exponential distribution of the inter-arrival times. The model is based on generalized beta-binomial distribution and the Bayesian inference using the historical data array describing the demand repeatability within the time periods. For this model, there were derived explicit expressions for the forecast distributions, its moments and relevant Bayesian risk. The efficiency of the proposed approach is confirmed by computer simulation and an application example.

Broadband structural vibration can be suppressed through the connection of an electrical impedance to the terminals of a bonded piezoelectric transducer. This is referred to as piezoelectric shunt damping. Good nominal damping performance has been obtained with resonant shunts, but these shunts are highly sensitive to variations in structural resonance frequencies. In this paper, we present an online tuned multi-mode resonant shunt controller. For optimal tuning, the parameters of this shunt are adjusted online by minimizing the relative phase difference between a vibration reference signal and the shunt current. Experiments validate the proposed technique and demonstrate the simplicity of implementation. The tuning law converges quickly and maintains optimal performance in the presence of environmental uncertainties.
