Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) for gesture recognition is on the rise in the bio-medical field. It is an imaging technique based on a set of electrodes which are placed on the forearm of the individual. The inner conductivity distribution inside the forearm will be calculated based on measured boundary voltages resulting of the injected excitation signal. In this work, the Genetic Algorithm, using the Non-Blind Search has been developed as a solution for the EIT Inverse Problem. Therefore, several measurements have been conducted for American sign numbers (0-9) for gesture recognition applications. The reconstructed images were used in a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) classification algorithm for gesture recognition. The overall accuracy achieved for image recognition was 93%.

Endomicroscopy is indispensable for minimally invasive diagnostics in clinical practice. For optical keyhole monitoring of surgical interventions, high-resolution fiber endoscopic imaging is considered to be very promising, especially in combination with label-free imaging techniques to realize in vivo diagnosis. However, the inherent honeycomb-artifacts of coherent fiber bundles (CFB) reduce the resolution and limit the clinical applications. We propose an end-to-end lensless fiber imaging scheme toward intraoperative real-time cancer diagnosis. The framework includes resolution enhancement and classification networks that use single-shot fiber bundle images to provide both high-resolution images and tumor diagnosis result. The well-trained resolution enhancement network not only recovers high-resolution features beyond the physical limitations of CFB, but also helps improving tumor recognition rate. Especially for glioblastoma, the resolution enhancement network helps increasing the classification accuracy from 90.8% to 95.6%. The novel technique can enable histological real-time imaging through lensless fiber endoscopy and is promising for rapid and minimal-invasive intraoperative diagnosis in clinics. Vibrations of milling tools, especially of slender end mills, are one of the main contributors to shape deviations of machined work pieces in the milling process. For milling machines, the vibration behaviour depends on the spindle speed and end mill properties. Numerical models can help to predict vibrational behaviour and reduce vibrations. This requires measuring the frequency response of the end mill. We propose a system for investigating the frequency response function inside of a milling machine under different rotational speeds. It consists of an automated impact unit generating vibrations with a known force and a novel Mach-Zehnder interferometer based sensor. The sensor enables simultaneous axial distance and lateral velocity measurement at fast rotating surfaces with submicron uncertainty and measurement rates up to 50 kHz. The bidirectional vibration frequencies are estimated by the signal-processing algorithm depending on the geometric relationship of the displacement in two directions. © 2019 European Society for Precision engineering and Nanotechnology, Conference Proceedings - 19th International Conference and Exhibition, EUSPEN 2019. Two biomaterial types have been the focus of sensor applications: Fluorosilicate bioactive Glass BG-F 6 crude and compact. Of the two, BG-F 6 compact material show the greater mechanical strength, and electrical behaviour provoke greater humidity sensing capacity. Thus, the glassy discs show great potential for deployment in a new generation of biosensors and environment requires. The aim of this paper is to develop a material that combines an interesting mechanical strength, monophasic stability with potential thermic resistance and great electrical capacity. By returning to its high temperature synthesis protocol, makes this fluorosilicate glass an attractive material for sensors development topic and environmental precautions.

The carcinogenic bacterium Helicobacter pylori infect over half the global population, with a higher prevalence in low-income countries. It is linked to diseases such as chronic gastritis, peptic ulcers, and gastric cancer, a leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. The gold standard diagnostic method involves histopathological evaluation of gastric biopsy tissue via upper gastrointestinal endoscopy—an invasive, complex, and time-intensive procedure requiring specialized professionals. This study presents a noninvasive alternative: an impedimetric electrochemical biosensor for H. pylori antigen detection in saliva. The biosensor was developed using a screen-printed carbon electrode modified with polypyrrole nanotubes and carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes. Monoclonal antibodies targeting CagA, a cytotoxic effector protein of H. pylori , were immobilized on carbon nanotubes using EDC/NHS chemistry. The platform was characterized via scanning electron microscopy and electrochemical techniques. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was employed for analyte detection, with an analytical curve constructed in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) spiked with CagA protein. The biosensor demonstrated a linear detection range of 0.5 pg mL⁻¹ to 3.3 ng mL⁻¹ and a detection limit of 109.9 fg mL⁻¹ . Validation with patient saliva samples, confirmed by histopathology and rapid urease testing, yielded 97 % accuracy, 80 % sensitivity, and 100 % specificity. Results were obtained within 15 min. This EIS-based biosensor offers a sensitive, innovative, and noninvasive platform for early H. pylori diagnosis, which is essential for preventing severe diseases such as gastric cancer.

Physical layer security in multimode fiber optical networks

Inverse precoding algorithms in multimode fiber based communication networks are used to exploit mode dependent losses on the physical layer. This provides an asymmetry between legitimate (Bob) and unlegitimate (Eve) receiver of messages resulting in a significant SNR advantage for Bob. In combination with dynamic mode channel changes, Eve has no chance to reconstruct a sent message even in a worst case scenario in which she is almighty. This is the first time, Physical Layer Security in a fiber optical network is investigated on the basis of measured transmission matrices. These results show that messages can be sent securely with conventional communication techniques. Translating the task of securing data from software to hardware represents the potential of a scientific paradigm shift. Wavelength switchable and stable single-longitudinal-mode erbium-doped fiber laser based on mach–zehnder interferometer and tunable filter

An erbium-doped fiber laser with all-fiber Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI) and tunable filter was proposed and experimentally demonstrated. In the designed fiber laser, 6m C-band erbium-doped fiber was selected as a gain medium;the MZI comprised two waist-enlarged fiber bitapers. In the experiment, the laser threshold was 93mW, whereas a switchable singlelongitudinal- mode laser was realized within 1519.7–1564.6nm by adjusting the tunable filter and the line interval was less than 2.5 nm;for singlewavelength laser, the peak power difference of each line was less than 4 dB, and the power fluctuation was less than 0.77 dB within 10-min scan time. A stable and switchable dual-wavelength laser was realized, the wavelength spacing of each dual-wavelength laser was less than 0.7 nm, the side-mode suppression ratio was more than 30.2 dB, and the power shift was less than 0.39 dB. The future of pressure, vacuum and even temperature measurement will employ lasers, Fabry-Perot optical cavities, cold atom traps and lots of quantum physics. For pressure measurement of a gas, photons interact at the quantum level such that light travels at a slower speed in gas than it does in vacuum. For extreme vacuum measurements, cold atom traps will be used to detect single collisions between gas trapped cold atoms enabling the number density of the gas to be measured. For temperature measurement is performed using silicon photonics to detect the small changes in refractive index in micro machined siliconphontoic cavities coupled to optical fibers. For dynamic pressure, NIST is developing a method where the unique quantum mechanical characteristics of the molecules are themselves the standard for pressure, making it consistent with the quantum-SI. Our approach is to use independent molecular spectroscopy as a dynamic measurement of pressure, where the pressure and temperature is ascertained by measuring time-resolved pressure-broadened spectra of CO molecules. We proposed a new end-to-end motion correction method based on conditional generative adversarial network (GAN) and minimum entropy of MRI images for Fast Spin Echo (FSE) sequence. The network contains an encoder-decoder generator to generate the motion-corrected images and a PatchGAN discriminator to classify an image as either real (motion-free) or fake(motion-corrected). Moreover, the image's entropy is set as one loss item in the cGAN's loss as the entropy increases monotonically with the motion amplitude, indicating that entropy is a good criterion for motion. The results show that the proposed method can effectively reduce the artifacts and obtain high-quality motion-corrected images from the motion-affected images in both pre-clinical and clinical datasets.
