Accurately synthesizing talking face videos and capturing fine facial features for individuals with long hair presents a significant challenge. To tackle these challenges in existing methods, we propose a decomposed per-embedding Gaussian fields (DEGSTalk), a 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS)-based talking face synthesis method for generating realistic talking faces with long hairs. Our DEGSTalk employs Deformable Pre-Embedding Gaussian Fields, which dynamically adjust pre-embedding Gaussian primitives using implicit expression coefficients. This enables precise capture of dynamic facial regions and subtle expressions. Additionally, we propose a Dynamic Hair-Preserving Portrait Rendering technique to enhance the realism of long hair motions in the synthesized videos. Results show that DEGSTalk achieves improved realism and synthesis quality compared to existing approaches, particularly in handling complex facial dynamics and hair preservation. Identify influential nodes in directed networks: A neighborhood entropy-based method

The identification of influential nodes in complex networks is prominent and actively researched topic, with applications across various fields. Despite the emergence of numerous methods, many of these are inadequate for directed networks due to the asymmetry of information flow. To address this challenge, we propose a Neighborhood Entropy-based Method (NEM) for identifying key nodes in directed networks. Inspired by Shannon entropy, the k-orders in-degree entropy and k-orders out-degree entropy of nodes are defined to capture the neighborhood information of the node. A tunable parameter α is introduced to balance the contribution of in-neighbors and out-neighbors on neighbor influence ability, while a decay factor φk is set to adjust the influence of different order neighbors on the node. The importance of a node can be eventually evaluated by the influence capability of its in-neighbors and itself. To assess the effectiveness of NEM, we benchmark it against six existing methods on six real network datasets. The results demonstrate the high correctness of NEM, with its low time complexity enabling efficient application to large-scale directed networks. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Current diffusion-based inpainting models struggle to preserve unmasked regions or generate highly coherent content. Additionally, it is hard for them to generate meaningful content for 3D inpainting. To tackle these challenges, we design a plug-and-play branch that runs through the entire generation process to enhance existing models. Specifically, we utilize dual encoders - a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) encoder and the pre-trained Variational AutoEncoder (VAE) encoder, to encode masked images. The latent code and the feature map from the dual encoders are fed to diffusion models simultaneously. In addition, we apply Zero-padded initialization to solve the problem of mode collapse caused by this branch. Experiments on BrushBench and EditBench demonstrate that models with our plug-and-play branch can improve the coherence of inpainting, and our model achieves new state-of-the-art results.

ColorDynamic: Generalizable, Scalable, Real-time, End-to-end Local Planner for Unstructured and Dynamic Environments

Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) has demonstrated potential in addressing robotic local planning problems, yet its efficacy remains constrained in highly unstructured and dynamic environments. To address these challenges, this study proposes the ColorDynamic framework. First, an end-to-end DRL formulation is established, which maps raw sensor data directly to control commands, thereby ensuring compatibility with unstructured environments. Under this formulation, a novel network, Transqer, is introduced. The Transqer enables online DRL learning from temporal transitions, substantially enhancing decision-making in dynamic scenarios. To facilitate scalable training of Transqer with diverse data, an efficient simulation platform E-Sparrow, along with a data augmentation technique leveraging symmetric invariance, are developed. Comparative evaluations against state-of-the-art methods, alongside assessments of generalizability, scalability, and real-time performance, were conducted to validate the effectiveness of ColorDynamic. Results indicate that our approach achieves a success rate exceeding 90% while exhibiting real-time capacity (1.2–1.3 ms per planning). Additionally, ablation studies were performed to corroborate the contributions of individual components. Building on this, the OkayPlan-ColorDynamic (OPCD) navigation system is presented, with simulated and real-world experiments demonstrating its superiority and applicability in complex scenarios. This paper addresses the issue of ensuring secure consensus in linear multi-agent systems under Denial-of-Service attacks. At the outset, to address the issue of partially observable agent states, a state observer is engineered to offer state estimations for the agents. Using the capabilities of this observer, a novel fully distributed dynamic adaptive edge-based event triggered control mechanism is introduced, and a timing variable is utilized to ensure that the inter-event intervals for all communication links in the network are strictly positive, thereby excluding Zeno behavior. Following that, by leveraging the piecewise Lyapunov function approach, the necessary conditions are meticulously crafted to ensure that the system reaches a secure consensus, thereby establishing a quantitative link between control gains, the duration of attacks, and their frequencies. Ultimately, the effectiveness of the developed event-triggered control strategy is validated through a simulation example.

Emotion recognition in conversations has recently emerged as a hot research topic owing to its increasingly important role in developing intelligent empathy services. Thoroughly exploring the conversational context and accurately capturing emotion-shift information are highly crucial for accurate emotion recognition in conversations. However, existing studies generally failed to fully understand the complex conversational context due to their insufficient capabilities in extracting and integrating emotional cues. Moreover, they mainly focused on the speaker’s emotion inertia while paying less attention to explore multi-perspective emotion-shift patterns. To address these limitations, this study proposes a novel multimodal approach, namely, GAT-CRESA (Graph ATtention based on Contextual Reasoning and Emotion-Shift Awareness). Specifically, the multi-turn global contextual reasoning module iteratively performs contextual perception and cognitive reasoning for efficiently understanding the global conversational context. Then, GAT-CRESA explores emotion-shift information among utterances from both the speaker-dependent and the global context-based perspectives. Next, the emotion-shift awareness graphs are constructed for extracting significant local-level conversational context, where edge relations are determined by the learnt emotion-shift labels. Finally, the outputs of graphs are concatenated for final emotion recognition. The loss of emotion prediction task is combined together with those of two perspective’s emotion-shift learning for guiding the training process. Experimental results show that our GAT-CRESA achieves new state-of-art records with 72.77% ACC and 72.81% wa-F1 on IEMOCAP, and 65.44% ACC and 65.04% wa-F1 on MELD, respectively. The ablation results also indicate the effectiveness and rationality of each component in our approach. © The Author(s) 2025.

Securing Mobile Robotic Networks Against Replacement Attack

The security of mobile robotic networks (MRNs) has been an active research topic in recent years. This paper aims to secure the ubiquitous formation control of MRNs against the replacement attack, where an external robot can replace a formation robot by compromising the communication and physically interfering with the victim simultaneously. To counter this advanced attack, the novel idea of this work is to leverage the physical proximity of the formation shape and the interaction topology among robots for defense design. First, from the physical proximity perspective, we propose the convex neighbor polygon (CNP) to capture the geometric characteristic of the formation robots, and design a CNP-based security mechanism for the robots during the replacement attack. Then, from the interaction perspective, we introduce the indirect controllability to characterize the possibility that the attacker leverages the interaction between robots to deactivate the CNP mechanism, and establish the conditions regarding the topology structure and the attack input to counter the replacement. Finally, based on the obtained conditions, we demonstrate how to design the initiatory topology among the formation robots to enhance the defense performance. Comparative simulations verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

The 3D generative adversarial network (GAN) inversion converts an image into 3D representation to attain high-fidelity reconstruction and facilitate realistic image manipulation within the 3D latent space. However, previous approaches face challenges regarding the trade-off between the reconstruction ability and editability. That is, reversing a real-world image to a low-dimensional latent code would inevitably lead to information loss, and achieving a near-perfect reconstruction using high-rate triplane representation often limits the ability to manipulate the image freely in the latent space. To address these issues, we propose a novel latent conditioning encoder-based framework with the alignment between the low-dimensional latent and high-dimensional triplane. A non-semantic guided editing strategy bridges the intrinsic relation between the latent condition and triplane generation, making it possible to edit the high-dimensional representation by latent manipulation. As a result, our method can achieve high-fidelity reconstruction and editing simultaneously by directly controlling the latent code. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach excels in reconstruction and editing quality compared to previous 3D inversion methods. Furthermore, our method can also edit even real faces with large poses and out-of-domain cases.

Autonomous Path Planning via Sand Cat Swarm Optimization With Multi-Strategy Mechanism for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in Dynamic Environment

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) face critical challenges in path planning in dynamic environment. Sand Cat Swarm Optimization (SCSO) algorithm has demonstrated promise in addressing complex optimization challenges. However, SCSO is limited by slow convergence, susceptibility to local optima, and insufficient adaptability. To overcome these shortcomings, an enhanced SCSO with the spiral search, Livy flight, tent chaotic mapping, and adaptive sparrow alert mechanism, namely TSLS-SCSO is developed to propose an autonomous path planning method for UAVs in dynamic environment. In TSLS-SCSO, a new population initialization strategy with tent chaotic mapping is designed to achieve a large dynamic range and coverage capability. Then a new spiral search strategy is designed to broaden the search range in the search phase. And a new Livy flight strategy is employed to enrich the diversity of population in the attacking prey phase. A new sparrow alert mechanism with integrating the sand cat group with the sparrow alert is designed to obtain faster convergence speed and accuracy. The experiment results on CEC 2017 and CEC 2022 show that the TSLS-SCSO obtains higher accuracy and more stable solutions and exhibits better competitiveness. Furthermore, the proposed UAV path planning method successfully found effective paths with an obstacle avoidance effectiveness of 95.5%. The obtained results validate the effectiveness and competitiveness of TSLS-SCSO in UAV path planning in the dynamic environment. © 2014 IEEE.

As the deadliest form of pollution, air pollution had a prolonged severe damage to the human health and life safety of nearly 99% of the world's population. Facing to the problem that billions of tons of pollutants discharged into the air per year by industrial activities, this paper proposed a novel image-based air pollution monitor (IAPM) by incorporating local and global information in the self-adaptive multiscale transform domain, so as to achieve the timely and effective leakage detection of typical air pollutants from a single image. To be specific, this paper first developed a screen-shaped module according to two significant findings in visual neuroscience, which include the high sensitivity of human eyes to horizontal and vertical stimuli and the center-surround inhibition, by designing and fusing the square module, horizontal strip module and vertical strip module parallelly for simulating the behaviour of human eyes to extract local features. Second, the learnable weights and proportional mapping were applied to incorporate the screen-shaped module and lightweight vision transformer as backbone, towards more richly exploiting and fusing local and global information just as the way a brain perceives external stimuli. Third, a new self-adaptive multiscale transform domain method was devised based on two motivations from the visual characteristics of multiscale perception and the brain characteristics of self-adaptive domain transform to modify the backbone by using the operations of pooling and pointwise convolution. Extensive experiments implemented on the datasets of carbon particulate matters and ethylene leakage confirmed the superior monitoring performance of the proposed IAPM model beyond the state-of-the-art (SOTA) peers by an accuracy gain of about 4%. Furthermore, the proposed IAPM model only required 0.089 GFLOPs and 0.15 million model parameters, remarkably outperforming SOTA competitors in computational efficiency and storage resources. © 1999-2
