Enhancing Resource Allocation and Performance in Multi-Layer Industrial IoT Through Adjustable Strategy Integrating Cooperative Communication and Edge Computing

Reliable bidirectional communication between the control center (CC) and manufacturing devices (MDs) along with efficient resource allocation are critical for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). However, due to the limited network resources of IIoT devices and the intertwined nature of communication and computation resources, achieving efficient optimization of these resources presents significant challenges. In this paper, we propose a multi-layer communication architecture for the IIoT based on edge computing and cooperative communication technologies, where resource-constrained MDs upload data to edge servers (ESs) for processing. To address the issues of resource scarcity and coupling, we establish a bandwidth release model (BRM) to analyze and quantify the relationship between computation and communication resources. This elucidates the interaction mechanisms between ‘transmission-computation’ performance. Furthermore, to prevent excessive data upload to ESs, which could lead to node overload and network congestion, we employ game theory to develop a pricing mechanism for resource allocation, where ESs charge for computation services. Specifically, we construct a Lagrangian framework to determine a resource allocation scheme, aiming to maximize the utility of the factory. Simulation results indicate that compared to common methods employed in existing works, our strategy enhances factory utility by 29.79%. © 2014 IEEE.

Graph signal processing (GSP) has emerged as a powerful framework for analyzing data on irregular domains. In recent years, many classical techniques in signal processing (SP) have been successfully extended to GSP. Among them, chirp signals play a crucial role in various SP applications. However, graph chirp signals have not been formally defined despite their importance. Here, we define graph chirp signals and establish a comprehensive theoretical framework for their analysis. We propose the graph fractional vertex-frequency energy distribution (GFED), which provides a powerful tool for processing and analyzing graph chirp signals. We introduce the general fractional graph distribution (GFGD), a generalized vertex-frequency distribution, and the reduced interference GFED, which can suppress cross-term interference and enhance signal clarity. Furthermore, we propose a novel method for detecting graph signals through GFED domain filtering, facilitating robust detection and analysis of graph chirp signals in noisy environments. Moreover, this method can be applied to real-world data for denoising more effective than some state-of-the-arts, further demonstrating its practical significance. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. Safety and reliability are crucial for the public acceptance of autonomous driving. To ensure accurate and reliable environmental perception, intelligent vehicles must exhibit accuracy and robustness in various environments. Millimeter-wave radar, known for its high penetration capability, can operate effectively in adverse weather conditions such as rain, snow, and fog. Traditional 3D millimeter-wave radars can only provide range, Doppler, and azimuth information for objects. Although the recent emergence of 4D millimeter-wave radars has added elevation resolution, the radar point clouds remain sparse due to Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR) operations. In contrast, cameras offer rich semantic details but are sensitive to lighting and weather conditions. Hence, this paper leverages these two highly complementary and cost-effective sensors, 4D millimeter-wave radar and camera. By integrating 4D radar spectra with depth-aware camera images and employing attention mechanisms, we fuse texture-rich images with depth-rich radar data in the Bird’s Eye View (BEV) perspective, enhancing 3D object detection. Additionally, we propose using GAN-based networks to generate depth images from radar spectra in the absence of depth sensors, further improving detection accuracy. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. With the Internet of Things (IoT) playing an increasingly crucial role in connecting diverse devices, applications have different requirements for communication and various evaluation metrics have emerged, such as Age of information (AoI) and estimation error. Considering the fundamental trade-off between reliability and latency of the communication system, the relationship among reliability, latency, AoI and estimation error is complex. This paper proposes a remote state observation system with application-layer rateless codes to explore above relationships, addressing how to design the system for optimal performance based on varying requirements by adjusting coding parameters. By emphasizing flexible and adaptable coding strategies, we aim to convey the idea that the error-correction codes can be designed to optimize the communication system for diverse practical metrics. It is different from the traditional designs that focus on approaching the Shannon limit.

sEMG (surface electromyography) signal control of bionic prostheses has been widely studied over the past few years. In particular, sparse sEMG signals are rapidly developing in the field of gesture recognition for their convenience, noninvasiveness, and ease of access. However, compared with high-density EMG signals, sparse EMG signals lack rich feature information, which in turn affects gesture recognition accuracy. In order to reduce the loss of feature information of sparse EMG signals in the spatio-temporal dimension, this paper proposes a hybrid neural network Res-LSTM combining residual network and long short-term memory network. The ordinary convolutional blocks in the CNN network are replaced with residual blocks, and the final fully connected layer is removed and a constant mapping layer is added to adequate extraction of spatial feature information of the data. The Res layer’s output is utilized as the input for the long and short-term memory (LSTM) network, which further extracts the features of the data in the temporal dimension, and finally completes the categorization output through a fully connected layer. The average accuracy of 91.11% for gesture-motion classification was verified by training on a homebrew dataset;and tested on a public dataset, NinaPro DB1, with an average accuracy of 91.03%. The experimental findings indicate that the proposed Res-LSTM network framework contributes to solving the problem of lack of feature information of sparse sEMG signals and improves the pattern recognition accuracy. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Event-triggered MPC Design for Distributed systems With Network Communications

This paper deals with the communication problem in the distributed system, considering the limited battery power in the wireless network and redundant transmission among nodes. We design an event-triggered model predictive control(ET-MPC) strategy to reduce the unnecessary communication while promising the system performance. On one hand, for a linear discrete time-invariant system, a triggering condition is derived based on the Lyapunov stability. Here, in order to further reduce the communication rate, we enforce a triggering condition only when the Lyapunov function will exceed its value at the last triggered time, but an average decrease is guaranteed. On the other hand, the feasibility is ensured by minimizing and optimizing the terminal constrained set between the maximal control invariant set and the target terminal set. Finally, we provide a simulation to verify the theoretical results. It's shown that the proposed strategy achieves a good trade-off between the closed-loop system performance and communication rate.

Unleashing Correlation and Continuity for Hyperspectral Reconstruction from RGB Images

Reconstructing Hyperspectral Images (HSI) from RGB images can yield high spatial resolution HSI at a lower cost, demonstrating significant application potential. This paper reveals that local correlation and global continuity of the spectral characteristics are crucial for HSI reconstruction tasks. Therefore, we fully explore these inter-spectral relationships and propose a Correlation and Continuity Network (CCNet) for HSI reconstruction from RGB images. For the correlation of local spectrum, we introduce the Group-wise Spectral Correlation Modeling (GrSCM) module, which efficiently establishes spectral band similarity within a localized range. For the continuity of global spectrum, we design the Neighborhood-wise Spectral Continuity Modeling (NeSCM) module, which employs memory units to recursively model the progressive variation characteristics at the global level. In order to explore the inherent complementarity of these two modules, we design the Patch-wise Adaptive Fusion (PAF) module to efficiently integrate global continuity features into the spectral features in a patch-wise adaptive manner. These innovations enhance the quality of reconstructed HSI. We perform comprehensive comparison and ablation experiments on the mainstream datasets NTIRE2022 and NTIRE2020 for the spectral reconstruction task. This paper addresses the issue of ensuring secure consensus in linear multi-agent systems under Denial-of-Service attacks. At the outset, to address the issue of partially observable agent states, a state observer is engineered to offer state estimations for the agents. Using the capabilities of this observer, a novel fully distributed dynamic adaptive edge-based event triggered control mechanism is introduced, and a timing variable is utilized to ensure that the inter-event intervals for all communication links in the network are strictly positive, thereby excluding Zeno behavior. Following that, by leveraging the piecewise Lyapunov function approach, the necessary conditions are meticulously crafted to ensure that the system reaches a secure consensus, thereby establishing a quantitative link between control gains, the duration of attacks, and their frequencies. Ultimately, the effectiveness of the developed event-triggered control strategy is validated through a simulation example. © ICROS, KIEE and Springer 2025.

Pneumoconiosis, the most prevalent and severe occupational disease in China, is categorized into four stages based on the area of small lung shadows. Previous diagnostic methods have exhibited limited accuracy in identifying severity stages due to the complexity and diversity of pneumoconiosis lesions, as well as challenges in collecting rich X-ray images from patients. To address these issues, a diagnostic method based on adaptive feature fusion and class-distance-based loss function is proposed. First, the prototype network based on deep metric learning is introduced to establish a diagnostic model for pneumoconiosis with insufficient images, with the purpose of enhancing feature representations by analyzing the distance between features of various samples. Subsequently, the fusion modules of dual-path multi-channel and fine-grained multi-level features are proposed. These modules also utilize the mechanism of adaptive gating selection to efficiently integrate the most important features from different channels and levels. Finally, the class-distance-based loss function is designed to train the diagnostic model of occupational pneumoconiosis. The experimental results on a self-built dataset of chest X-ray radiographs demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms eight comparative methods in terms of comprehensive performance. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Adaptive Backstepping Slide Mode control of Pneumatic Position Servo system

With the price decreasing of the pneumatic proportional valve and the high performance micro controller, the simple structure and high tracking performance pneumatic servo system demonstrates more application potential in many fields. However, most existing control methods with high tracking performance need to know the model information and to use pressure sensor. This limits the application of the pneumatic servo system. An adaptive backstepping slide mode control method is proposed for pneumatic position servo system. The proposed method designs adaptive slide mode controller using backstepping design technique. The controller parameter adaptive law is derived from Lyapunov analysis to guarantee the stability of the system. A theorem is testified to show that the state of closed-loop system is uniformly bounded, and the closed-loop system is stable. The advantages of the proposed method include that system dynamic model parameters are not required for the controller design, uncertain parameters bounds are not need, and the bulk and expensive pressure sensor is not needed as well. Experimental performance, as compared with some existing methods. results show that the designed controller can achieve better tracking
