Mathematical modeling plays a fundamental role in understanding how social influence shapes individuals' opinions. Although most opinion dynamics models assume that individuals update their opinions by averaging others' opinions, we point out that the weighted-averaging mechanism features a non-negligible unrealistic implication. We propose a new micro-foundation of opinion dynamics, i.e., the weighted-median mechanism, in the framework of cognitive dissonance theory and resolves the shortcomings of weighted averaging. Validation via empirical data indicates that the weighted-median mechanism significantly outperforms the weighted-averaging mechanism in predicting individual opinion shifts. Compared with the averaging-based opinion dynamics, the weighted-median model, despite its simplicity in form, replicates more realistic features of opinion dynamics, and exhibits richer phase-transition behavior depending on more delicate and robust network structures. The novel weighted-median model opens up a new line of research and renovates our understanding of the opinion formation process. ©2020 The *** is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license.

The rapid evolution of technology is a preferred method of interacting. A new world was created for young people who are sending emails, visiting websites, using webcams and chat rooms, and instant messaging through social media. In the past years, people used face-to-face communication though, in recent years, people are using internet technology in order to communicate with each other. As a consequence the communication change, created a new type of bullying, cyberbullying, in which bullying is taking place by using internet technology. Cyberbullying is a phenomenon which is increasing day by day over the world. This was one of the reasons that prompted us to do this survey. This paper describes the dynamic seminar management system named "e-Sem", developed according to the open-source software philosophy. Due to its dynamic management functionality, it can equally adapt to any education environment (Primary, Secondary, Tertiary). The purpose of the proposed dynamic system is ease of use and handling, by any class of users, without the need of special guidance. Also, students are given the opportunity to: a) register as users;b) enroll in seminars in a simple way;c) receive e-learning material at any time of day any day of week, and d) be informed of new announcements concerning the seminar in which they are enrolled . In addition, the administrator and the tutors have a number of tools such as : management seminars and trainees in a friendly way, sending educational material as well as new announcements to the trainees;the possibility of electronic recording of presence or absence of the trainees in a seminar, and direct printing of a certificate of successful attendance of a seminar for each trainee. The application also offers features such as electronic organization, storage and presentation of educational material, overcoming the limiting factors of space and time of classical teaching, thus creating a dynamic environment. Armchair graphene nanoribbons(AGNRs)with sub-nanometer width are potential materials for the fabrication of novel nanodevices thanks to their moderate direct band *** are usually synthesized by polymerizing precursor molecules on substrate ***,it is time-consuming and not suitable for large-scale *** can also be grown by transforming precursor molecules inside single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs)via furnace annealing,but the obtained AGNRs are normally *** this work,microwave heating is applied for transforming precursor molecules into *** fast heating process allows synthesizing the AGNRs in *** different molecules were successfully transformed into AGNRs,suggesting that it is a universal *** importantly,as demonstrated by Raman spectroscopy,aberrationcorrected high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and theoretical calculations,less twisted AGNRs are synthesized by the microwave heating than the furnace *** results reveal a route for rapid production of AGNRs in large scale,which would benefit future applications in novel AGNRs-based semiconductor devices.

Mechanistic and tractable mathematical models play a key role in understanding how social influence shapes public opinions. Recently, a weighted-median mechanism has been proposed as a new micro-foundation of opinion dynamics and validated via experimental data. Numerical studies also indicate that this new mechanism recreates some non-trivial real-world features of opinion evolution. In this paper, we conduct a thorough theoretical analysis of the weighted-median opinion dynamics. We fully characterize the set of all equilibria, and we establish the almost-sure finite-time convergence for any initial condition. Moreover, we prove a necessary and sufficient graph-theoretic condition for the almost-sure convergence to consensus, as well as a sufficient graph-theoretic condition for almost-sure persistent dissensus. It turns out that the weighted-median opinion dynamics, despite its simplicity in form, exhibit rich dynamical behavior that depends on some delicate network structures. To complement our sufficient conditions for almost-sure dissensus, we further prove that, given the influence network, determining whether the system almost surely achieves persistent dissensus is NP-hard, which reflects the complexity the network topology contributes to opinion *** Codes 93E03, 93A30, 91D30 Copyright © 2022, The Authors. This paper presents the implementation of a half-bridge resonant inverter to power a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) ozone generator. We use the PIC16F876A microcontroller-based control circuit to vary the inverter frequency. We use a step-up transformer to obtain the high voltage required for the DBD. We conducted an experimental study to investigate the impact of frequency and voltage on ozone production and power consumption. The results show that these two parameters have a strong influence. This study demonstrates the advantages of using a resonant inverter combined with optimum electrical parameter adjustment to achieve excellent energy efficiency for the DBD ozone generator. The choice of a resonant half-bridge topology aims to maximize energy efficiency, crucial in a solar-powered system. The circuit has been optimized to reduce switching losses. In addition, the development of the power source takes into account the capacitive nature of DBD reactors, using a series resonant circuit formed by the DBD capacitance and the step-up transformer inductance. The frequency range from 14 kHz to 17.5 kHz has been specifically chosen and optimized for the DBD reactor, taking into account the constraints of the PV source and the characteristics of the discharge.

Revealing academic web interlinking motives through webometrics and statistical techniques: Nigerian university websites as a case study

The websites of the universities of Africa's most populous country Nigeria were examined. The goal was to unearth the reasons why external hyperlinks are placed on these sites and identify any peculiarities by geographical location. Academic website interlinking motivations were formulated. Over 6,000 hyperlinks placed on the websites of 86 Nigerian universities were categorised under these interlinking motivations. Categorising the motivations by examining the source and target pages of each hyperlink was an arduous task. Statistical analysis offered a clearer picture of the interlinking motives. A chi-squared test revealed distinctive features, which are characteristic of specific geographical regions of Nigeria. The study serves as a route to further research on feasibility of findings in other developing countries. Results obtained could be of great importance for academic webpage developers and authors. The results could modify their work towards improving the use of hyperlinks as a major communication tool on the web. Copyright © 2016 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Vehicular networks, also known as Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs), have become a crucial technology for vehicle communication, providing wireless connectivity among vehicles and between vehicles and infrastructure. However, the dynamic and complex nature of these networks presents unique challenges in routing and resource management. In this study, we explore the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the performance of vehicular networks, focusing on two widely used routing protocols: Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR) and Destination-Sequenced Distance Vector (DSDV).We aim to evaluate the performance of these traditional routing protocols within the context of vehicular networks by integrating machine learning techniques such as neural network regression (MLRegression). Our goal is to understand how the integration of artificial intelligence can enhance the prediction and optimization of vehicular network performance. Using MLRegression, we aim to develop accurate prediction models for performance metrics such as latency, throughput, packet delivery rate, and more, based on network parameters and environmental conditions. This comparative evaluation, which involves incorporating an AI-based approach, will allow us to better understand the strengths and weaknesses of each protocol and provide recommendations for improving vehicular networks.
