Ad hoc networks are useful for providing communication support where no fixed infrastructure exists or the deployment of a fixed infrastructure is not economically profitable, and movement of communicating parties is allowed. Therefore, such networks are designed to operate in widely varying environments, from military networks to low-power sensor networks and other embedded systems. Frequent topology changes caused by node mobility make routing in ad hoc wireless networks a challenging problem. In this paper, we propose an efficient ad hoc routing algorithm, which we refer to as GZRP, a hybrid protocol that makes use of the ZRP scheme and the Global Positioning System (GPS). As opposed to the ZRP original scheme, our GZRP scheme consists of propagating the routing (query) messages only to the nodes that are further away from the query source. We discuss the algorithm, its implementation, and report on the performance of GZRP scheme, and compare it to the ZRP routing protocol using an extensive simulation experiment. Our results indicate clearly that GZRP outperforms ZRP by reducing significantly the number of route query messages, and thereby increases the efficiency of the network load. Furthermore, we show that careful GPS screening angle is an important factor in the success of the GZRP ad hoc routing protocol.

The performance of two pressure-velocity coupling strategies, associated with the primitive variable solution of incompressible Newtonian fluid with the meshless Local Radial Basis Function Collocation Method (LRBFCM), is compared with respect to computational efficiency, stability, accuracy and spatial convergence. The LRBFCM is structured with multiquadrics on five noded support domains. The explicit time stepping is used. The Backward- Facing Step problem (BFS) has been selected as a benchmark problem, previously tackled by several numerical methods. The semi-local fractional step method (FSM) and completely local pressure-velocity couplings (LPVC) are compared. The numerical results are validated against previously published data. The results are represented and compared in terms of a convergence plot of the reattachment position. We show that both approaches provide reasonable results;however, LVPC is less computationally complex and less stable in comparison to FSM. © 2012 WIT Press.

Nonparametric density estimation is a fundamental problem of statistics and data mining. Even though kernel density estimation is the most widely used method, its performance highly depends on the choice of the kernel bandwidth, and it can become computationally expensive for large data sets. WTe present an adaptive sparse-grid-based density estimation method which discretizes the estimated density function on basis functions centered at grid points rather than on kernels centered at the data points. Thus, the costs of evaluating the estimated density function are independent from the number of data points. We give details on how to estimate density functions on sparse grids and develop a cross validation technique for the parameter selection. We show numerical results to confirm that our sparse-grid-based method is well-suited for large data sets, and, finally, employ our method for the classification of astronomical objects to demonstrate that it is competitive to current kernel-based density estimation approaches with respect to classification accuracy and runtime. parallel and distributed simulation techniques have been investigated in a number of studies to decrease the execution times of PCS network simulations. In this paper, we consider distributed simulation of PCS models using a two-state PCS simulation testbed which makes use of a conservative scheme at Stage 1, and of Time Warp at Stage 2, and focus upon the load balancing issue. We investigate and study several load balancing schemes for TDMA systems. Extensive simulation experiments were conducted on a cluster of workstations using a real suburban area serviced by an FCA-based PCS networks. Our results indicate clearly that careful load balancing scheme is important in the success of the PCS simulation model.

In this study,we present for the first time the application of physics-informed neural network(PINN)to fretting fatigue *** PINN has recently been applied to pure fatigue lifetime prediction,it has not yet been explored in the case of fretting *** propose a data-assisted PINN(DA-PINN)for predicting fretting fatigue crack initiation *** traditional PINN that solves partial differential equations for specific problems,DA-PINN combines experimental or numerical data with physics equations as part of the loss function to enhance prediction *** DA-PINN method,employed in this study,consists of two main ***,damage parameters are obtained from the finite element method by using critical plane method,which generates a data set used to train an artificial neural network(ANN)for predicting damage parameters in other ***,the predicted damage parameters are combined with the experimental parameters to form the input data set for the DA-PINN models,which predict fretting fatigue *** results demonstrate that DA-PINN outperforms ANN in terms of prediction accuracy and eliminates the need for high computational costs once the damage parameter data set is ***,the choice of loss-function methods in DA-PINN models plays a crucial role in determining its performance.

A mobile ad-hoc network (Manet) is a system of wireless mobile nodes dynamically self-organizing in arbitrary and temporary network topologies. People and vehicles can thus be internetworked in areas without a pre-existing communication infrastructure, or when the use of such infrastructure requires wireless extension. Therefore, such networks are designed to operate in widely varying environments, from military networks to low-power sensor networks and other embedded systems. Frequent topology changes caused by node mobility make routing in ad hoc wireless networks a challenging problem. We focus upon routing protocols for ad hoc networks. We study and compare the performance of several routing protocols. A variety of workload and scenarios using a variety of mobility, load and size of the ad hoc network were simulated.

Refined Meshless Local Strong Form solution of Cauchy-Navier equation on an irregular domain

This paper considers a numerical solution of a linear elasticity problem, namely the Cauchy-Navier equation, using a strong form method based on a local Weighted Least Squares (WLS) approximation. The main advantage of the employed numerical approach, also referred to as a Meshless Local Strong Form method, is its generality in terms of approximation setup and positions of computational nodes. In this paper, flexibility regarding the nodal position is demonstrated through two numerical examples, i.e. a drilled cantilever beam, where an irregular domain is treated with a relatively simple nodal positioning algorithm, and a Hertzian contact problem, where again, a relatively simple h-refinement algorithm is used to extensively refine discretization under the contact area. The results are presented in terms of accuracy and convergence rates, using different approximations and refinement setups, namely Gaussian and monomial based approximations, and a comparison of execution time for each block of the solution *** Codes 65N99, 74B05 Copyright © 2019, The Authors. This paper presents the latest developments on the VIALACTEA Science Gateway in the context of the FP7 VIALACTEA project. This science gateway operates as a central workbench for the VIALACTEA community in order to allow astronomers to process the new-generation (from Infrared to Radio) surveys of the Galactic Plane to build and deliver a quantitative 3D model of our Milky Way Galaxy. The final model will be used as a template for external galaxies to study star formation across the cosmic time. The adopted AGILE software development process allowed to fulfill the community needs in terms of required workflows and underlying resources monitoring. The scientific requirements arose during the process highlighted the needs for easy parameter setting, fully embarrassingly parallel computations and large-scale input dataset processing. Therefore the science gateway based on the WS-PGRADE/gUSE framework has been able to fulfill the requirements mainly exploiting the parameter sweep paradigm and parallel jobs execution of the workflow management system. Moving from the development to the production environment an efficient resource monitoring system has been implemented to easily analyse and debug sources of failure due to workflows computations. The results of the resource monitoring system are exploitable not only for IT experts administrators and workflow developers but also for the final users of the gateway. The affiliation to the STARnet Gateway Federation ensures the sustainability of the presented products after the end of the project, allowing the usage of VIALACTEA Science Gateway to all the stakeholders and not only to the community members.

We analyze the scheduling aspects of database queries submitted to an abstract model of a very large distributed system. The essential elements of this model are: (a) a finite number of identical processing nodes with limited storage capacity, (b) a finite number of queries to be serviced, (c) a very large read-only data set that is shared by all queries and (d) a fixed inter-node communication latency. This framework models an important class of applications that use distributed processing of very large data sets. Examples of these applications exist in the very large database and multimedia problem domains. To meet the objective of minimizing flow time of queries while exploiting inter-query locality, various heuristics are proposed and evaluated through extensive simulation.

KRCORE: A Microsecond-scale RDMA Control Plane for Elastic Computing

We present KRCORE, an RDMA library with a microsecond-scale control plane on commodity RDMA hardware for elastic computing. KRCORE can establish a full-fledged RDMA connection within 10µs (hundreds or thousands of times faster than verbs), while only maintaining a (small) fixed-sized connection metadata at each node, regardless of the cluster scale. The key ideas include virtualizing pre-initialized kernel-space RDMA connections instead of creating one from scratch, and retrofitting advanced RDMA dynamic connected transport with static transport for both low connection overhead and high networking speed. Under load spikes, KRCORE can shorten the worker bootstrap time of an existing disaggregated key-value store (namely RACE Hashing) by 83%. In serverless computing (namely Fn), KRCORE can also reduce the latency for transferring data through RDMA by 99%. © 2021, CC BY.
