— —Microwave imaging for breast cancer detection is based on the contrast in the electrical properties of healthy fatty breast tissues. This paper presents an industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) bands comparative study of five microstrip patch antennas for microwave imaging at a frequency of 2.45 GHz. The choice of one antenna is made for an antenna array composed of 8 antennas for a microwave breast imaging system. Each antenna element is arranged in a circular configuration so that it can be directly faced to the breast phantom for better tumor detection. This choice is made by putting each antenna alone on the Breast skin to study the electric field, magnetic fields and current density in the healthy tissue of the breast phantom designed and simulated in Ansoft High Frequency Simulation software (HFSS). Reconstructing network connectivity from the collective dynamics of a system typically requires access to its complete continuous-time evolution, although these are often experimentally inaccessible. Here we propose a theory for revealing physical connectivity of networked systems only from the event time series their intrinsic collective dynamics generate. Representing the patterns of event timings in an event space spanned by interevent and cross-event intervals, we reveal which other units directly influence the interevent times of any given unit. For illustration, we linearize an event-space mapping constructed from the spiking patterns in model neural circuits to reveal the presence or absence of synapses between any pair of neurons, as well as whether the coupling acts in an inhibiting or activating (excitatory) manner. The proposed model-independent reconstruction theory is scalable to larger networks and may thus play an important role in the reconstruction of networks from biology to social science and engineering.

Non-orthogonal multiple access schemes with higher spectral efficiency and the capability of accessing more users than orthogonal multiple access (OMA) scheme is preferred for the fifth generation (5G) wireless networks. In this work, a non-orthogonal transmission scheme called pattern division multiple access (PDMA) is proposed for the 5G wireless communication systems. Two pattern matrices are proposed for 150% and 200% overloaded PDMA systems. Then, a low complexity symbol-wise belief propagation iterative detection and decoding (BPIDD) algorithm for multiple user detection is proposed. Numerical results and analysis provided by utilizing extrinsic information transfer chart show that the proposed scheme outperforms the traditional OMA systems significantly, and the performance of the proposed scheme is better than that of the existing schemes up to 1 dB. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed scheme is superior to the existing schemes and the proposed BPIDD algorithm is better than that of the BP algorithm over 0.5 dB.

Research software has become a central asset in academic research. It optimizes existing and enables new research methods, implements and embeds research knowledge, and constitutes an essential research product in itself. Research software must be sustainable in order to understand, replicate, reproduce, and build upon existing research or conduct new research effectively. In other words, software must be available, discoverable, usable, and adaptable to new needs, both now and in the future. Research software therefore requires an environment that supports sustainability. Hence, a change is needed in the way research software development and maintenance are currently motivated, incentivized, funded, structurally and infrastructurally supported, and legally treated. Failing to do so will threaten the quality and validity of research. In this paper, we identify challenges for research software sustainability in Germany and beyond, in terms of motivation, selection, research software engineering personnel, funding, infrastructure, and legal aspects. Besides researchers, we specifically address political and academic decision-makers to increase awareness of the importance and needs of sustainable research software practices. In particular, we recommend strategies and measures to create an environment for sustainable research software, with the ultimate goal to ensure that software-driven research is valid, reproducible and sustainable, and that software is recognized as a first class citizen in research. This paper is the outcome of two workshops run in Germany in 2019, at deRSE19 - the first International Conference of Research software Engineers in Germany - and a dedicated DFG-supported follow-up workshop in Berlin. The structures of prepared composites were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD). The physical morphologies of the composites were examined using transmission electron microscope (TEM). The corpus is a limiting factor for a keyword extraction process with a word matching stage. This paper proposes a framework to automate the corpus generation stage required for the Twitter Model of KeyXtract, an algorithm used for essential keyword extraction from tweets. The initial algorithm was designed with two manually compiled corpora that limited the adaptability of the system. The automated framework proposed in the present research is an extension to the keyword extraction process of KeyXtract and would address this limitation of the system. The design was carried out using open-class words of the source text and by matching them against the bag of words compiled by analyzing the tweets. The automated corpus had a total of 138 words, out of which 74 words were also found in the handpicked corpus (which had a total of 206 words). However, when the corpus was used with the keyword extraction system, the average F1 scores of the system showed a decrease of 0.07, proving that the automated corpus cannot perform parallel to the human-made corpus in complexity. This was because the human-made corpus was compiled using syntactic, semantic and pragmatic features while the automated framework focused only on the syntactic features. However, there were individual tweets in which the F1 score showed an increase. Thus, this was a promising first step in the corpus automation process. The automatic corpus generation framework could be made more accurate by including the semantic analysis of the lexical items. Thus, the present framework is able to substantially address the limitation of the corpus compilation which was present in the Twitter Model of KeyXtract.

Model-based development is a widely-used method to describe complex systems that enables the rapid prototyping. Advances in the science of distributed systems has led to the development of large scale statechart models which are distributed among multiple locations. Taking medicine for example, models of best-practice guidelines during rural ambulance transport are distributed across hospital settings from a rural hospital, to an ambulance, to a central tertiary hospital. Unfortunately, these medical models require continuous and real-time communication across individual medical models in physically distributed treatment locations which provides vital assistance to the clinicians and physicians. This makes it necessary to offer methods for model-driven communication and synchronization in a distributed environment. In this paper, we describe ModelSink, a middleware to address the problem of communication and synchronization of heterogeneous distributed models. Being motivated by the synchronization requirements during emergency ambulance transport, we use medical best-practice models as a case study to illustrate the notion of distributed models. Through ModelSink, we achieve an efficient communication architecture, open-loop-safe protocol, and queuing and mapping mechanisms compliant with the semantics of statechart-based model-driven development. We evaluated the performance of ModelSink on distributed sets of medical models that we have developed to assess how ModelSink performs in various loads. Our work is intended to assist clinicians, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), and medical staff to prevent unintended deviations from medical best practices, and overcome connectivity and coordination challenges that exist in a distributed hospital network. Our evaluations are based on real-world case studies done by research community, model-driven software industry, and hospital as the end user. The proximity between physical and cyber worlds is permitting the appearance of Cyber-Physical systems (CPS), formed by users and devices (physical) interacting with services, components and applications (cyber). In CPS, where unpredictability is an important challenge, two characteristics must be present in the developed systems: i) low coupling among interacting modules and ii) self-adaptive capabilities. In that direction, this paper describes an uncoupled sensor and actuator component-based infrastructure for self adaptive CPS. Its main contribution is two-fold: i) a lightweight and interoperable mechanism to specify and manage sensors and actuators, built on top of an ii) uncoupled communication and coordination mechanism for cyberphysical entities. © 2016 ACM.

The reduced density matrices （RDMs） of many-body quantum states form a convex set. The boundary of low dimensional projections of this convex set may exhibit nontrivial geometry such as ruled surfaces. In this paper, we study the physical origins of these ruled surfaces for bosonic systems. The emergence of ruled surfaces was recently proposed as signatures of symmetry- breaking phase. We show that, apart from being signatures of symmetry-brealdng, ruled surfaces can also be the consequence of gapless quantum systems by demonstrating an explicit example in terms of a two-mode Ising model. Our analysis was largely simplified by the quantum de Finetti＇s theorem--in the limit of large system size, these RDMs are the convex set of all the symmetric separable states. To distinguish ruled surfaces originated from gapless systems from those caused by symmetry- breaking, we propose to use the finite size scaling method for the corresponding geometry. This method is then applied to the two-mode XY model, successfully identifying a ruled surface as the consequence of gapless systems.

It is challenging to test data analytics software because a test oracle might not be available. This study reports our experience of applying metamorphic testing to Adobe's data analytics software that is used for anomaly detection in a set of time series data. We make use of geometric transformations to build metamorphic relations and generate simple time series data as the source test cases. The results of this study show that metamorphic testing is highly effective for both verification and validation purposes. An investigation of the issues detected during metamorphic testing revealed three bugs in the software under test.
