With the ongoing trend towards the globalization of software systems and their development, components in these systems might not only work together, but may end up evolving independently from each other. Modern IDEs have started to incorporate support for these highly distributed environments, by adding new collaborative features. As a result, assessing and controlling system quality (e.g. security concerns) during system evolution in these highly distributed systems become a major challenge. In this research, we introduce a unified ontological representation that integrates best security practices in a context-aware tool implementation. As part of our approach, we integrate information from traditional static source code analysis with semantic rich structural information in a unified ontological representation. We illustrate through several use cases how our approach can support the evolvability of software systems from a security quality perspective.

Over the last decades, software engineering processes have constantly evolved to reflect cultural, social, technological, and organizational changes, which are often a direct result of the Internet. The introduction of the Web 2.0 resulted in further changes creating an interactive, community driven platform. However, these ongoing changes have yet to be reflected in the way we document software systems. Documentation generators, like Doxygen and its derivatives (Javadoc, Natural Docs, etc.) have become the de-facto industry standards for creating external technical software documentation from source code. However, the inter-woven representation of source code and documentation within a source code editor limits the ability of these approaches to provide rich media, internationalization, and interactive content. In this paper, we combine the functionality of a Web browser with a source code editor to provide source code documentation with rich media content. The paper presents our fully functional implementation of the editor within the Eclipse framework.

software development and maintenance are highly distributed processes that involve a multitude of supporting tools and resources. Knowledge relevant to these resources is typically dispersed over a wide range of artifacts, representation formats, and abstraction levels. In order to stay competitive, organizations are often required to assess and provide evidence that their software meets the expected requirements. In our research, we focus on assessing non-functional quality requirements, specifically evolvability, through semantic modeling of relevant software artifacts. We introduce our SE-Advisor that supports the integration of knowledge resources typically found in software ecosystems by providing a unified ontological representation. We further illustrate how our SE-Advisor takes advantage of this unified representation to support the analysis and assessment of different types of quality attributes related to the evolvability of software ecosystems.

Efficient scheduling is a key concern for the effectual execution of performance driven Grid applications, such as workflows. Many list heuristics have been developed for scheduling workflows in centralized Grid environment. However, in this paper, we present a distributed list heuristic for decentralized scheduling of workflow applications in global Grids. The simulation results show that the proposed scheduling approach is scalable with respect to increased workload on the system.

Dependable workflow scheduling in global Grids

In this paper, a reputation-based Grid workflow scheduling algorithm is proposed to counter the effect of inherent unreliability and temporal characteristics of computing resources in large scale, decentralized Grid overlays. The proposed approach builds upon structured peer-to-peer indexing and overlay networking techniques to create a scalable wide-area networking of Grid sites for supporting dependable scheduling of applications. The scheduling algorithm considers reliability of a Grid resource as a statistical property, which is globally computed in the decentralized Grid overlay based on dynamic feedbacks or reputation scores assigned by individual service consumers (Grid Resource Brokers). The proposed algorithm can dynamically adapt to changing resource conditions and offer significant performance gains as compared to traditional approaches in the event of unsuccessful job execution or resource failure. We evaluate and demonstrate the feasibility of our approach through an extensive trace driven simulation. The results show that our scheduling technique can reduce the makespan up to 50% and successfully isolate the failure-prone resources from the system.

Nowadays, there are commercial tools that allow automatic generation of text summaries. However, it is not known the quality of the generated summaries and the method that it is used for the generation of the summaries using these commercial tools. This paper provides a study about the commercial tools such as Copernic Summarizer, Microsoft Office Word Summarizer 2003 and Microsoft Office Word Summarizer 2007, with the objective to detect which of them gives the summaries more similar to those made by a human. Furthermore, the comparison between commercial tools and state-of-the-art methods is realized. The experiments were carried out using DUC-2002 standard collection which contains 567 news in English.

A pragmatic and straightforward approach to semantic service discovery is to match inputs and outputs of user requests with the input and output requirements of registered service descriptions. This approach can be extended by using pre-conditions, effects and semantic annotations (meta-data) in an attempt to increase discovery accuracy. While on one hand these additions help improve discovery accuracy, on the other hand complexity is added as service users need to add more information elements to their service requests. In this paper we present an approach that aims at facilitating the representation of service requests by service users, without loss of accuracy. We introduce a goal-based service framework (GSF) that uses the concept of goal as an abstraction to represent service requests. This paper presents the core concepts and relations of the goal-based service ontology (GSO), which is a fundamental component of the GSF, and discusses how the framework supports semantic service discovery and composition. GSO provides a set of primitives and relations between goals, tasks and services. These primitives allow a user to represent its goals, and a supporting platform to discover or compose services that fulfil them.

The Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, in cooperation with Stanford University's department of computer science, was pleased to present the 2009 Spring Symposium Series, held Monday through Wednesday, March 23-25, 2009, at Stanford University. The titles of the nine symposia were Agents That Learn from Human Teachers, Benchmarking of Qualitative Spatial and Temporal Reasoning systems, Experimental Design for Real- World systems, Human Behavior Modeling, Intelligent Event Processing, Intelligent Narrative Technologies II, Learning by Reading and Learning to Read, Social Semantic Web: Where Web 2.0 Meets Web 3.0, and Technosocial Predictive Analytics. The goal of the Agents That Learn from Human Teachers symposium was to investigate how we can enable software and robotics agents to leam from real-time interaction with an everyday human partner. The aim of the Benchmarking of Qualitative Spatial and Temporal Reasoning systems symposium was to initiate the development of a problem repository in the field of qualitative spatial and temporal reasoning and identify a graded set of challenges for future midterm and long-term research. The Experimental Design symposium discussed the challenges of evaluating AI systems. The Human Behavior Modeling symposium explored reasoning methods for understanding various aspects of human behavior, especially in the context of designing intelligent systems that interact with humans. The Intelligent Event Processing symposium discussed the need for more Al-based approaches in event pro-cessing and defined a kind of research agenda for the field, coined as intelligent complex event processing (iCEP). The Intelligent Narrative Technologies IIAAAI symposium discussed innovations, progress, and novel techniques in the research domain. The Learning by Reading and Learning to Read symposium explored two aspects of making natural language texts semantically accessible to, and processable by, machines. The Social Semantic
