This work presents a study undertaken to characterise the FINISTERRAE supercomputer, one of the biggest NUMA systems in Europe. The main objective was to determine the performance effect of bus contention and cache coherency as well as the suitability of porting strategies regarding irregular codes in such a complex architecture. Results show that: (1) cores which share a socket can be considered as independent processors in this context; (2) for big data sizes, the effect of sharing a bus degrades the final performance but masks the cache coherency effects; (3) the NUMA factor (remote to local memory latency ratio) is an important factor on irregular codes and (4) the default kernel allocation policy is not optimal in this system. These results allow us to understand the behaviour of thread-to-core mappings and memory allocation policies.

"Malware" is an umbrella term that describes a variety of Internet-borne threats, including viruses, spyware,Trojan horses, spam, bots and more. This sophisticated and evolving security threat puts all businesses at risk, no matter how big or small. Malware creates unique challenges to higher learning institutions (HLI) in protecting their information assets. This is largely due to the fact that HLI information technology (IT) departments must balance between enabling a highly collaborative, non-restrictive environment and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data and computing resources. HLIs can proactively defend the network to reduce the risks associated with this threat by assessing the vulnerabilities and threats present in their networks and implementing appropriate multilayer security. A multilayer approach involves applying countermeasures at every layer of the computer network, from the perimeter routers and firewalls to users' personal computers in order to increase network security. The goal of this study is to propose a framework for network security protection against malware to increase the level of protection using non technical countermeasures.

In this paper, we propose to improve the SvS algorithm by skipping elements of the smaller set for reducing a search boundary. The boundary of skipped element is determined by boundaries of elements prior to and next to it. We perform experiments on uniformly distributed random datasets to compare our algorithm with the standard SvS. We use regression analysis to get an equation for determining an appropriate skipping number. Our results show that the skipping SvS algorithm using the equation obtained can reduce approximately 41% on the number of comparisons of the standard SvS algorithm.

This paper is devoted to the problem of H filtering for a class of neutral stochastic systems with both discrete and distributed time-varying *** objective is to design a full order filter such that the resulting filtering error system is stochastically asymptotically stable with a prescribed H∞performance *** on the stability theory of stochastic systems,a delay-dependent and rate-dependent sufficient condition for the existence of filter is obtained in terms of linear matrix inequalities（LMIs）.The corresponding filter design method is also proposed,while the explicit expression for the desired filter is given.A numerical example is finally included to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper deals with the robust iterative learning control(ILC) for time-delay systems(TDS) with both model and delay *** ILC algorithm with anticipation in time is considered,and a frequency-domain approach to its design is *** shows that a necessary and sufficient convergence condition can be provided in terms of three design parameters:the lead time,the learning gain,and the performance weighting *** particular,if the lead time is chosen as just the delay estimate,then the convergence condition is derived independent of the delay and the *** this case,with the selection of the performance weighting function,the perfect tracking can be achieved,or the least upper bound of the L2-norm of the limit tracking error can be guaranteed less than the least upper bound of the L2-norm of the initial tracking error.

This paper is concerned with the iterative learning control(ILC) problem for discrete-time systems with iterationvarying *** the so-called super-vector approach to ILC,the discrete domain bounded real lemma is employed to develop a sufficient condition ensuring both the stability and the desired H∞ performance of the ILC *** is shown that this sufficient condition can be presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs),which can also determine the learning gain matrix.A numerical simulation example is included to validate the theoretical results.

This report summarizes the proceedings of the one day BioSharing meeting held at the Intelligent systems for Molecular Biology (ISMB) 2010 conference in Boston, MA, USA This inaugural BioSharing event was hosted by the Genomic Standards Consortium as part of its M3 & BioSharing special interest group (SIG) workshop. The BioSharing event included invited talks from a range of community leaders and a panel discussion at the end of the day. The panel session led to the formal agreement among community leaders to join together to promote cross-community knowledge exchange and collaborations. A key focus of the newly formed Biosharing community will be linking up resources to promote real-world data sharing (virtuous cycle of data) and supporting compliance with data policies through the creation of a one-stop-portal of information. This paper is devoted to the consensus control for a network of autonomous agents with high-dimension linear coupling dynamics and subject to external disturbances. By transforming the consensus control problem into an H infin control problem, we propose a distributed state feedback protocol, and obtain conditions in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) to ensure the consensus with a prescribed H infin performance level for networks with zero and nonzero communication delays, respectively. Furthermore, the undetermined feedback matrix of the proposed protocol is also solved. A numerical example is included to validate the theoretical results.

This paper proposes an adaptive multi-class support vector machine for simultaneous microarray classification and gene selection. By evaluating the gene ranking significance, the adaptive multi-class support vector machine is shown to encourage an adaptive grouping effect in the process of building classifiers, thus leading a sparse multi-classifiers with enhanced interpretability. Based on a reasonable correlation between the two regularization parameters, an efficient solution path algorithm is developed for solving the proposed support vector machine. Experiments performed on the leukaemia data set are provided to verify the obtained results.
