An IoT-based wireless sensor network(WSN)comprises many small sensors to collect the data and share it with the central *** sensors are battery-driven and resource-restrained devices that consume most of the energy in sensing or collecting the data and transmitting *** data sharing,security is an important concern in such networks as they are prone to many threats,of which the deadliest is the wormhole *** attacks are launched without acquiring the vital information of the network and they highly compromise the communication,security,and performance of the *** the IoT-based network environment,its mitigation becomes more challenging because of the low resource availability in the sensing *** have performed an extensive literature study of the existing techniques against the wormhole attack and categorised them according to their *** analysis of literature has motivated our *** this paper,we developed the ESWI technique for detecting the wormhole attack while improving the performance and *** algorithm has been designed to be simple and less complicated to avoid the overheads and the drainage of energy in its *** simulation results of our technique show competitive results for the detection rate and packet delivery *** also gives an increased throughput,a decreased end-to-end delay,and a much-reduced consumption of energy.

Medical Image Analysis(MIA)is one of the active research areas in computer vision,where brain tumor detection is the most investigated domain among researchers due to its deadly *** tumor detection in magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)assists radiologists for better analysis about the exact size and location of the ***,the existing systems may not efficiently classify the human brain tumors with significantly higher *** addition,smart and easily implementable approaches are unavailable in 2D and 3D medical images,which is the main problem in detecting the *** this paper,we investigate various deep learning models for the detection and localization of the tumor in MRI.A novel twotier framework is proposed where the first tire classifies normal and tumor MRI followed by tumor regions localization in the second ***,in this paper,we introduce a well-annotated dataset comprised of tumor and normal *** experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework by achieving 97%accuracy using GoogLeNet on the proposed dataset for classification and 83%for localization tasks after finetuning the pre-trained you only look once(YOLO)v3 model.

Personal health records and electronic health records are considered as the most sensitive information in the healthcare *** solutions have been provided for implementing the digital health system using blockchain,but there are several challenges,such as secure access control and privacy is one of the prominent ***,we propose a novel framework and implemented an attribute-based access control system using ***,we have also integrated artificial intelligence(AI)based approach to identify the behavior and activity for security *** current methods only focus on the related clinical records received from a medical ***,existing methods are too inflexible to resourcefully sustenance metadata changes.A secure patient data access framework is proposed in this research,integrating blockchain,trust chain,and blockchain methods to overcome these problems in the literature for sharing and accessing digital healthcare *** have used a neural network and classifier to categorize the user access to our proposed *** proposed scheme provides an intelligent and secure blockchain-based access control system in the digital healthcare *** results surpass the existing solutions by collecting attributes such as the number of transactions,number of nodes,transaction delay,block creation,and signature verification time.

The Tamazight civilization stands as a significant cultural entity, marked by its linguistic diversity, historical legacy, and scriptural traditions, which collectively enrich the cultural tapestry of North Africa. Among these traditions, the Tamazight handwritten script assumes particular importance, embodying centuries of cultural identity and artistic expression. Recognizing the imperative of safeguarding this cultural heritage, our study focuses on Tamazight handwritten character recognition. Leveraging the strategic application of Transfer Learning, we explore its efficacy in this domain. Transfer Learning presents a robust framework wherein pre-existing models are adapted for specific tasks despite limited data availability. Our research employs three prominent Transfer Learning architectures: VGG, ResNet, and MobileNet. Through a rigorous comparative analysis, we discern the efficacy of these methodologies in the context of Tamazight handwritten character recognition. Our findings underscore the potential of Transfer Learning to significantly augment the accuracy and efficiency of script recognition systems, thereby advancing the overarching objective of preserving and propagating the Tamazight cultural heritage. © 2024 IOS Press. Parkinson’s Disease Detection from Resting State EEG using Multi-Head Graph Structure Learning with Gradient Weighted Graph Attention Explanations

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a debilitating neurodegenerative disease that has severe impacts on an individual’s quality of life. Compared with structural and functional MRI-based biomarkers for the disease, electroencephalography (EEG) can provide more accessible alternatives for clinical insights. While deep learning (DL) techniques have provided excellent outcomes, many techniques fail to model spatial information and dynamic brain connectivity, and face challenges in robust feature learning, limited data sizes, and poor explainability. To address these issues, we proposed a novel graph neural network (GNN) technique for explainable PD detection using resting state EEG. Specifically, we employ structured global convolutions with contrastive learning to better model complex features with limited data, a novel multi-head graph structure learner to capture the non-Euclidean structure of EEG data, and a head-wise gradient-weighted graph attention explainer to offer neural connectivity insights. We developed and evaluated our method using the UC San Diego Parkinson’s disease EEG dataset, and achieved 69.40% detection accuracy in subject-wise leave-one-out cross-validation while generating intuitive explanations for the learnt graph topology. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

Undetected anomalous incidents on the freeway, such as crashes, can cause increased congestion and secondary crashes. To address this problem, we recently released a real freeway traffic anomalous event detection dataset. However, our evaluation was limited to a static week of traffic data. This demo presents a live anomaly detection dashboard, processing sensor data with a 1-minute delay. It has interactive components to adjust the anomaly detection performance, providing a realistic evaluation of graph anomaly detection methods for long-term analysis and method improvements.

With the growing prevalence of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, IoT cloud platforms have become increasingly vital in the ecosystem that allows heterogeneous IoT devices to be accessed and managed by a wide range of IoT applications. IoT applications are typically hosted on dedicated application servers within the cloud platforms and offer intelligent automation, control, and management features for all connected IoT devices. However, we found that IoT devices can be attacked if the development environment is compromised. In this paper, we conduct the first systematic study on the security risks of IoT cloud platforms that are introduced by compromised development environments. We discover three novel attacks that can invoke commands on the IoT devices, initiate malicious IoT firmware update, and get access to the IoT devices through secure tunneling. We confirm the feasibility of these attacks on mainstream commercial IoT cloud platforms, including Azure IoT Hub, AWS IoT Core, Samsung SmartThings, IBM Watson IoT, and Google IoT, demonstrating their potential to impact a large number of devices. Our work leads to the creation of CVE-2023-38372 by IBM.

Human-computer interaction (HCI) is an evolving field of research that focuses on understanding and improving the communication and interaction between humans and computers. Over the past decades, we have seen many significant advances in this field, which have contributed to the widespread adoption and integration of technology into our daily lives. HCI research and development aims to design information technology systems to meet the needs and preferences of users. Usability, efficiency, accessibility and user satisfaction are important considerations in HCI design. This paper presents the results of a pilot study on user acceptance of HCIs. In recent times,internet of things(IoT)applications on the cloud might not be the effective solution for every IoT scenario,particularly for time sensitive applications.A significant alternative to use is edge computing that resolves the problem of requiring high bandwidth by end *** computing is considered a method of forwarding the processing and communication resources in the cloud towards the *** of the considerations of the edge computing environment is resource management that involves resource scheduling,load balancing,task scheduling,and quality of service(QoS)to accomplish improved *** this motivation,this paper presents new soft computing based metaheuristic algorithms for resource scheduling(RS)in the edge computing *** SCBMARS model involves the hybridization of the Group Teaching Optimization Algorithm(GTOA)with rat swarm optimizer(RSO)algorithm for optimal resource *** goal of the SCBMA-RS model is to identify and allocate resources to every incoming user request in such a way,that the client’s necessities are satisfied with the minimum number of possible resources and optimal energy *** problem is formulated based on the availability of VMs,task characteristics,and queue *** integration of GTOA and RSO algorithms assist to improve the allocation of resources among VMs in the data *** experimental validation,a comprehensive set of simulations were performed using the CloudSim *** experimental results showcased the superior performance of the SCBMA-RS model interms of different measures.

Learning and Motivational Impact of Game-Based Learning: Comparing Face-To-Face and Online Formats on computer science Education

Contribution: This article analyzes learning and motivational impact of teacher-authored educational video games on computer science education and compares its effectiveness in both face-to-face and online (remote) formats. This work presents comparative data and findings obtained from 217 students who played the game in a face-to-face format (control group) and 104 students who played the game in an online format (experimental group). Background: Serious video games have been proven effective at computer science education, however it is still unknown whether the effectiveness of these games is the same regardless of their format, face-to-face or online. Moreover, the usage of games created through authoring tools has barely been explored. Research questions: Are teacher-authored educational video games effective in terms of learning and motivation for computer science students? Does the effectiveness of teacher-authored educational video games depend on whether they are used in a face-to-face or online format? Methodology: A quasi-experiment has been conducted by using three instruments (pre-test, post-test and questionnaire) with the purpose of comparing the effectiveness of Game-Based Learning in face-to-face and online formats. A total of 321 computer science students played a teacher-authored educational video game aimed to learn about software design. Findings: The results reveal that teacher-authored educational video games are highly effective in terms of knowledge acquisition and motivation both in face-to-face and online formats. The results also show that some students’ perceptions were more positive when a face-to-face format was used. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
