The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm is drastically changing our world by making everyday objects an integral part of the Internet. This transformation is increasingly being adopted in the healthcare sector, where Smart Hospitals are now relying on IoT technologies to track staff, patients, devices, and equipment, both within a hospital and beyond. This paradigm opens the door to new innovations for creating novel types of interactions among objects, services, and people in smarter ways to enhance the quality of patient services and the efficient utilisation of resources. However, the realisation of real-time IoT applications in health care and, ultimately, the development of Smart Hospitals are constrained by their current Cloud-based computing environment. Edge computing emerged as a new computing model that harnesses Edge-based resources alongside Clouds for real-time IoT applications. It helps to capitalise on the potential economic impact of the IoT paradigm of $11 trillion per year, with a trillion IoT devices deployed by 2025 to sense, manage, and monitor the hospital systems in real time. This vision paper proposes new algorithms and software systems to tackle important challenges in Edge computing-enabled Smart Hospitals, including how to manage and execute diverse real-time IoT applications and how to meet their diverse and strict Quality of Service (QoS) requirements in hospital settings. After designing a simulation and running it locally on a small network instance, the implementation can be scaled-up via parallel and distributed computing (e.g., a cluster) to cope with massive networks. However, implementation changes can create errors (e.g., parallelism errors), which are difficult to identify since the aggregate behavior of an incorrect implementation of a stochastic network simulation can fall within the distributions expected from correct implementations. In this paper, we propose the first approach that applies machine learning to traces of network simulations to detect errors. Our technique transforms simulation traces into images by reordering the network's adjacency matrix, and then training supervised machine learning models. Our evaluation on three simulation models shows that we can easily detect previously encountered types of errors and even confidently detect new errors. This work opens up numerous opportunities by examining other simulation models, representations (i.e., matrix reordering algorithms), or machine learning techniques.

Road safety is of prime importance as road accidents are among the biggest causes of deaths in the country. Road Accidents are majorly due to violators and lawbreakers of road safety rules like not wearing helmets, triple riding etc. Even though there are many smart systems to monitor these violations, it is complicated to keep a track of the data and view it efficiently anywhere. Also monitoring the permit details of other state vehicles is hard. A method was proposed to address this issue. based on Deep learning and Optical Character Recognition (OCR). Here we detect the riders not wearing helmet and triple riders using object detection by comparing YOLOv2 and YOLOv3. This simplifies the task of traffic police who can’t continuously and efficiently monitor all the violators. We gathered our data from three different sources. Kaggle was used to collect the data set. A number of items can be recognized by the real-time object recognition system YOLO in a single frame. It recognizes object more precisely and faster than other recognition systems. It can predict up to 9000 classes and even unseen classes. It divides the image into m*m matrix and each grid detects objects within itself. The trained model is tested using a test dataset set after training in order to measure the performance. For Number plate detection we use OCR based character recognition. The recognized license plate images of violators are captured and stored in a database which is then sent to the concerned department. The stored data can be easily accessed using the developed mobile app. Metrics considered for evaluation is Accuracy. The average is utilized to assess object detection models like R-CNN and YOLO. The average calculates a score by comparing the detected box to the ground-truth bounding box. The better the score, the more precise the model’s detections are. With technological improvements in the restaurant industry, competition is fierce, and a restaurant's success depends on providing excellent and luxury customer satisfaction. The food industry has had to continuously advance with technology in order to adequately satisfy the wants of people leading increasingly luxurious lives. While some restaurants still rely on manpower, the majority are eager to advance with technology in order to improve the standard of their offerings and enhance their customers' experiences. In order to optimize customer satisfaction and experience, this research project intends to investigate the potential of intelligence in the restaurant business. This research has explored intelligent systems such as digital self-service menus for ordering food, augmented reality (AR) visualization systems for customers, the observation of chefs in the kitchen, and the usage of robots to serve meals. This research paper analyzes the advantages of automating restaurant operations and how to do so to enhance customer satisfaction. Overall, this study has the potential to transform the restaurant industry and increase customer satisfaction.

Simultaneous visualization method for mixed HDLSS data and its application for education

This paper proposes a visualization method for the mixed type of high-dimension and low sample-size (HDLSS) data. The data consists of both numerical and categorical data with respect to quantitative and qualitative variables, and the number of variables is much larger than the number of objects. The proposed method can treat both types of data simultaneously in a lower dimensional space. From this, we can compare the two kinds of features obtained from the two types of data in the lower dimensional space. In addition, since this visualization can be obtained based on the mathematical theory of metric multidimensional scaling, the comparability is mathematically guaranteed. As a numerical example, we show how the devices used by students to perform activities of reading, writing, listening, and speaking English texts of different lengths are related to their English test scores. In this case, the choice of device is obtained as qualitative data, and the test scores are obtained as quantitative data. In order to visually obtain these relationships, the two must be mathematically comparable in the same low-dimensional space. With the proposed method, we have achieved this and shown that it is possible to interpret the relationship between the two.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the criticality of timely intervention in a situation exacerbated by a shortage in medical staff and equipment. Pain-level screening is the initial step toward identifying the severity of patient conditions. Automatic recognition of state and feelings help in identifying patient symptoms to take immediate adequate action and providing a patient-centric medical plan tailored to a patient's state. In this paper, we propose a framework for pain-level detection for deployment in the United Arab Emirates and assess its performance using the most used approaches in the literature. Our results show that a deployment of a pain-level deep learning detection framework is promising in identifying the pain level accurately. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

Human emotions, psychology, and social well-being are all parts of mental health. It has an impact on how people feel, think, and act. It aids in figuring out how individuals act under pressure, interact with each other, and arrive at decisions. Every period of life, from childhood and adolescence to maturity, is vital for mental health. There are several elements that affect mental health issues, such as experiences with trauma or abuse in life, work-life stress, relationship difficulties, etc. Help is available for many of the mental health issues that are identified within a person. The proposed solution is implementing a friendly chatbot that is capable of capturing human emotional states (happy, angry, sad, etc.) and mental health states (depression, anxiety, stress, etc.) using human computer interaction and health record management. The proposed solution has been developed by considering both regular users and mental health practitioners. The user can communicate with the proposed assistant using text or voice to identify their emotions and mental health based on keywords, particular characteristics of voice and facial recognition used during the conversation. Once the mental health and emotion statuses are analyzed the electronic health records will be readily available on the blockchain as blockchain tokens, this could be shared with the practitioners securely.

Breast cancer is a significant global healthcare challenge, particularly in developing and underdeveloped countries, with profound physical, emotional, and psychological consequences, including mortality. Timely diagnosis and accurate treatment are crucial in addressing this issue. We propose the utilization of a feature selection technique to identify the most relevant features from among all features for breast cancer diagnosis, and show that Genetic Algorithms are impressive for this task. The study compares the results of GA with no selection and an alternative method, Principle Component Analysis (PCA). Three machine learning models, all based on supervised learning with data split into training and test data, are employed for binary classification using the selected feature subset. The evaluation metrics employed encompass accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. Among the selected models, Random Forest demonstrates the most favorable outcomes, achieving an accuracy score of 0.96, precision score of 0.96, recall value of 0.98, and an F1-score of 0.97. These results underscore the effectiveness of GA in feature selection for breast cancer diagnosis. Consequently, the integration of Genetic Algorithms (GA) with Random Forest showcases the superior performance among the evaluated models. © 2023 IEEE.

Serverless Function-as-a-Service (FaaS) environments enable developers to build and run cloud applications without the need to manage the underlying servers and computing infrastructure, allowing them to focus on implementing the application logic. Such environments contain numerous functions and dynamic resources, e.g., APIs and databases, making it challenging to gain insight and context of internal events i.e., recognize modules. Module in a serverless application is a set of functions and resources, that represents a functional unit that shares logical context. This paper presents SMART, a method for automatic analysis and recognition of modules for managed serverless applications. The proposed method creates an event-based graph by analyzing the standard serverless logs that document events involving the application’s functions and resources and utilizes well-known community detection algorithms (such as Louvain), with graph centrality metrics (such as degree centrality) to recognize the modules. SMART enables high-level visibility of the application’s structure and logical context which can facilitate security analysis and contribute to improved decision-making of incident response handlers, who typically do not have direct access to the application’s design and code, which can lead to challenges in fully understanding the system’s intricacies. We focused on the popular Amazon Web Services (AWS) Lambda serverless computing platform and evaluated the proposed method on three different demo applications (Airline Booking, VOD, and E-commerce). We compared SMART’s performance to four overlapping community detection algorithms and showed that it outperformed them in the task of module recognition, with a maximum improvement of 61% on the omega index metric compared to the Speaker-Listener Label Propagation algorithm. In addition, we demonstrate that the use of large language models (LLMs) with the knowledge gained by SMART can enrich security analysis insights.

This research proposes an IoT based technique for predicting rainfall forecast in coastal regions using a deep reinforcement learning model. The proposed technique utilizes Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks to capture the temporal dependencies between the rainfall data collected from the coastal regions and the prediction model parameters. The proposed technique is evaluated on a dataset of rainfall data collected from the coastal regions of India and compared to traditional methods of rainfall forecasting. The accuracy and reliability of these models are evaluated by comparing them to prior models. Precipitation in coastal locations may be predicted with an average accuracy of 89% using the suggested model, as shown by the results. The suggested framework is computationally efficient and can be trained with little input. The results of this research give strong evidence that the proposed model is an effective tool for coastal precipitation forecasting. © 2023 The Authors
