People are increasingly expressing their views and opinions about a company's goods or service on social media these days. For all types of businesses and organizations, sentiment analysis in text can be used to find prospective customers and obtain quick feedback on the services or goods they provided. As a result, the organization has a better chance and opportunity to meet the needs of the consumer. Using sentiment analysis, we may extract important information from the thoughts and emotions of an organization's supporters and clients. It examines natural language content produced about services and goods. Detailed opinion mining at the aspect/feature level to serve consumer and organizational needs. In this study, three different machine learning algorithms, these are Naïve Bayes (NB), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and K- Nearest Neighbor (KNN) are used to build the proposed aspect-based sentiment analysis model from the customer comments in Amharic text which is collected from Ethio-telecom official Facebook page. The collected data is annotated into sentiment polarity and aspect-based sentiment classes by the help of five annotators. After data annotation, different preprocessing tasks were implemented. Bag of words and TF-IDF word representation techniques were used to represent each unique word to their vector representation. The experiment was conducted on those three models and the result was validated. The labeled aspects were not balanced so that a SMOTE class imbalance handling technique was employed to the dataset. Finally, SVM model trained with TF-IDF word representation technique with SMOTE oversampled dataset has achieved the highest accuracy result of 98% as compared to NB and KNN.

In the field of heterogeneous federated learning (FL), the key challenge is to efficiently and collaboratively train models across multiple clients with different data distributions, model structures, task objectives, computational capabilities, and communication resources. This diversity leads to significant heterogeneity, which increases the complexity of model training. In this paper, we first outline the basic concepts of heterogeneous FL and summarize the research challenges in FL in terms of five aspects: data, model, task, device and communication. In addition, we explore how existing state-of-the-art approaches cope with the heterogeneity of FL, and categorize and review these approaches at three different levels: data-level, model-level, and architecture-level. Subsequently, the paper extensively discusses privacy-preserving strategies in heterogeneous FL environments. Finally, the paper discusses current open issues and directions for future research, aiming to promote the further development of heterogeneous FL. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Concealing Sensitive Samples against Gradient Leakage in Federated Learning

Federated Learning (FL) is a distributed learning paradigm that enhances users’ privacy by eliminating the need for clients to share raw, private data with the server. Despite the success, recent studies expose the vulnerability of FL to model inversion attacks, where adversaries reconstruct users’ private data via eavesdropping on the shared gradient information. We hypothesize that a key factor in the success of such attacks is the low entanglement among gradients per data within the batch during stochastic optimization. This creates a vulnerability that an adversary can exploit to reconstruct the sensitive data. Building upon this insight, we present a simple, yet effective defense strategy that obfuscates the gradients of the sensitive data with concealed samples. To achieve this, we propose synthesizing concealed samples to mimic the sensitive data at the gradient level while ensuring their visual dissimilarity from the actual sensitive data. Compared to the previous art, our empirical evaluations suggest that the proposed technique provides the strongest protection while simultaneously maintaining the FL performance. Part-of-speech tagging is the process of assigning words in a given text to appropriate parts-of speech in order to reduce the disambiguation which may arise depending on the contextual usage of the words. In this paper, the problem of word sense disambiguation in Azerbaijani language is addressed by applying part of speech tagging on two varying data corpora, misspelled, and edited (clean) text using 3 different machine learning algorithms: Hidden Markov Model, Long Short-Term Memory, and Conditional Random Fields. The comparative analysis on the outcomes of the mentioned algorithms and their accuracy scores were analysed in the paper. The misspelled dataset for the experiments is provided by Unibank from their chatbot dialogues while the clean textual data was retrieved from the books and newspapers in Azerbaijani. The experiments showed that the Bidirectional LSTM has the highest accuracy scores for both edited (98.2%) and noisy (96.2%) data corpora. Suggested models can be used in the application of algorithms focuses on part of speech tags and syntactic structure of Azerbaijani language which is an agglutinative language belonging to Turkic languages family, thus enabling the research to be further investigated in other agglutinative languages with similar grammatical structure. © 2022 ACM.

To ensure the security of image information and facilitate efficient management in the cloud, the utilization of reversible data hiding in encrypted images (RDHEI) has emerged as pivotal. However, most existing RDHEI schemes suffer from lower security and limited embedding capacity. To tackle these challenges, we propose a reversible data hiding with secret encrypted image sharing and adaptive coding scheme. Specifically, in the encryption phase, we introduce an improved secret sharing (SS) encryption method based on the chinese remainder theorem for polynomials (CRTP). This method not only improves the security of encrypted images but also vacates a larger room for embedding. In the embedding phase, we introduce an adaptive coding embedding approach using XOR preservation (XORP) and huffman coding, which provides high embedding capacity. Experimental results and security analysis demonstrate that our proposed encryption method achieves optimal values in security indicators for encrypted images, such as information entropy, histograms, NPCR and UACI. The proposed embedding method is superior to some state-of-the-art schemes in terms of embedding capacity. Furthermore, in datasets BOSSBase and BOWS2, the average embedding rates of the proposed embedding approach can reach 2.1745 bpp and 2.0656 bpp, respectively. © 2025 IEEE.

In the age of AI, mobile architectures such as smartphones are still "cold machines"; machines do not feel. If the architecture is able to feel users' feelings and runtime user experience (UX), it will accordingly adapt performance/energy to find the optimal system-operating state that consumes the least energy to satisfy users. In this paper, we will utilize users' facial expressions (FEs) to learn their runtime UX. We know that FEs are the natural and direct way for humans to convey their emotions and feelings. Our study reveals that FEs also reflect UX. Our research for the first time quantifies the link between FEs and UX. Leveraging this link, the architecture will be able to use the front camera to see FEs and feel users' UX. Based on UX, the architecture can appropriately provision computing resources. We propose Vi-energy system to realize the above idea. Our evaluation shows that Vi-energy reduces energy consumption by 52.9% at maximum and secures UX.

In this paper, a new n-MOSFET layout with multi-finger Z gate is proposed to reduce the total ionizing dose (TID) effect. In addition to the proposed layout, multi-finger single gate layout is also simulated using Sentaurus TCAD in 3D. Firstly, drain current - gate voltage curves of both layouts are compared in order to verify the radiation hardening ability of the proposed layout. Secondly, we compare TID responses by extracting threshold voltages and leakage currents from both layouts. Thirdly, the finger number is investigated for both layouts because it is an important factor for multi-finger layout. The results have indicated that the finger number significantly affects the multi-finger single gate layout, whereas the proposed multi-finger Z gate layout is relatively little affected by the finger number in radiation environment. © 2022 IEEE.

Forests cover nearly one-third of the Earth’s land and are some of our most biodiverse ecosystems. Due to climate change, these essential habitats are endangered by increasing wildfires. Wildfires are not just a risk to the environment, but they also pose public health risks. Given these issues, there is an indispensable need for efficient and early detection methods. Conventional detection approaches fall short due to spatial limitations and manual feature engineering, which calls for the exploration and development of data-driven deep learning solutions. This paper, in this regard, proposes 'FireXnet', a tailored deep learning model designed for improved efficiency and accuracy in wildfire detection. FireXnet is tailored to have a lightweight architecture that exhibits high accuracy with significantly less training and testing time. It contains considerably reduced trainable and non-trainable parameters, which makes it suitable for resource-constrained devices. To make the FireXnet model visually explainable and trustable, a powerful explainable artificial intelligence (AI) tool, SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations) has been incorporated. It interprets FireXnet’s decisions by computing the contribution of each feature to the prediction. Furthermore, the performance of FireXnet is compared against five pre-trained models — VGG16, InceptionResNetV2, InceptionV3, DenseNet201, and MobileNetV2 — to benchmark its efficiency. For a fair comparison, transfer learning and fine-tuning have been applied to the aforementioned models to retrain the models on our dataset. The test accuracy of the proposed FireXnet model is 98.42%, which is greater than all other models used for comparison. Furthermore, results of reliability parameters confirm the model’s reliability, i.e., a confidence interval of [0.97, 1.00] validates the certainty of the proposed model’s estimates and a Cohen’s kappa coefficient of 0.98 proves that decisions of FireXnet are in considerable accordance with t

Lung cancer impacts both genders, and its early detection is key to lowering death rates. Current deep learning techniques for automated identification and classification of lung carcinoma face issues with interpretability, data variability handling, and broader applicability. In our research, we propose a novel method that merges a convolutional neural network (CNN) with a streamlined RESNET18 framework. This approach is designed for lung cancer detection and categorization from CT scans, involving image preprocessing like resizing and rescaling. It effectively differentiates between healthy and cancerous tissues, further classifying them as either Normal, Benign, or Malignant, including variants such as adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Our CNN+RESNET18 model boasts an impressive 99% accuracy, supporting radiologists in the intricate task of image analysis, reducing risks of incorrect or delayed diagnosis, and fostering prompt treatment for improved patient outcomes.
