In the age of AI, mobile architectures such as smartphones are still "cold machines"; machines do not feel. If the architecture is able to feel users' feelings and runtime user experience (UX), it will accordingly adapt performance/energy to find the optimal system-operating state that consumes the least energy to satisfy users. In this paper, we will utilize users' facial expressions (FEs) to learn their runtime UX. We know that FEs are the natural and direct way for humans to convey their emotions and feelings. Our study reveals that FEs also reflect UX. Our research for the first time quantifies the link between FEs and UX. Leveraging this link, the architecture will be able to use the front camera to see FEs and feel users' UX. Based on UX, the architecture can appropriately provision computing resources. We propose Vi-energy system to realize the above idea. Our evaluation shows that Vi-energy reduces energy consumption by 52.9% at maximum and secures UX.

In this paper, a new n-MOSFET layout with multi-finger Z gate is proposed to reduce the total ionizing dose (TID) effect. In addition to the proposed layout, multi-finger single gate layout is also simulated using Sentaurus TCAD in 3D. Firstly, drain current - gate voltage curves of both layouts are compared in order to verify the radiation hardening ability of the proposed layout. Secondly, we compare TID responses by extracting threshold voltages and leakage currents from both layouts. Thirdly, the finger number is investigated for both layouts because it is an important factor for multi-finger layout. The results have indicated that the finger number significantly affects the multi-finger single gate layout, whereas the proposed multi-finger Z gate layout is relatively little affected by the finger number in radiation environment. © 2022 IEEE.

Forests cover nearly one-third of the Earth’s land and are some of our most biodiverse ecosystems. Due to climate change, these essential habitats are endangered by increasing wildfires. Wildfires are not just a risk to the environment, but they also pose public health risks. Given these issues, there is an indispensable need for efficient and early detection methods. Conventional detection approaches fall short due to spatial limitations and manual feature engineering, which calls for the exploration and development of data-driven deep learning solutions. This paper, in this regard, proposes 'FireXnet', a tailored deep learning model designed for improved efficiency and accuracy in wildfire detection. FireXnet is tailored to have a lightweight architecture that exhibits high accuracy with significantly less training and testing time. It contains considerably reduced trainable and non-trainable parameters, which makes it suitable for resource-constrained devices. To make the FireXnet model visually explainable and trustable, a powerful explainable artificial intelligence (AI) tool, SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations) has been incorporated. It interprets FireXnet’s decisions by computing the contribution of each feature to the prediction. Furthermore, the performance of FireXnet is compared against five pre-trained models — VGG16, InceptionResNetV2, InceptionV3, DenseNet201, and MobileNetV2 — to benchmark its efficiency. For a fair comparison, transfer learning and fine-tuning have been applied to the aforementioned models to retrain the models on our dataset. The test accuracy of the proposed FireXnet model is 98.42%, which is greater than all other models used for comparison. Furthermore, results of reliability parameters confirm the model’s reliability, i.e., a confidence interval of [0.97, 1.00] validates the certainty of the proposed model’s estimates and a Cohen’s kappa coefficient of 0.98 proves that decisions of FireXnet are in considerable accordance with t

Lung cancer impacts both genders, and its early detection is key to lowering death rates. Current deep learning techniques for automated identification and classification of lung carcinoma face issues with interpretability, data variability handling, and broader applicability. In our research, we propose a novel method that merges a convolutional neural network (CNN) with a streamlined RESNET18 framework. This approach is designed for lung cancer detection and categorization from CT scans, involving image preprocessing like resizing and rescaling. It effectively differentiates between healthy and cancerous tissues, further classifying them as either Normal, Benign, or Malignant, including variants such as adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Our CNN+RESNET18 model boasts an impressive 99% accuracy, supporting radiologists in the intricate task of image analysis, reducing risks of incorrect or delayed diagnosis, and fostering prompt treatment for improved patient outcomes.

In recent years, support vector machine has become one of the most important classification techniques in pattern recognition, machine learning, and data mining due to its superior classification effect and solid theoretical base. However, its training time will increase dramatically as the number of samples increases, and training will become more sophisticated when dealing with problems involving multiple classifications. A quick training data reduction approach MOIS appropriate for multi-classification tasks is presented as a solution for the aforementioned issues. While eliminating redundant training samples, the boundary samples that play a vital role are chosen in order to considerably reduce training data and the problem of unequal distribution between categories. The experimental results demonstrate that MOIS may maintain or even improve the classification performance of support vector machines while substantially enhancing training efficiency. On the Opt digit dataset, the suggested method improves classification accuracy from 98.94% to 99.05%, while training time is reduced to 15% of the original;in HCL2000, the proposed method improves classification accuracy from 98.94% to 99.05%. When the accuracy rate is marginally increased (from 99.29% to 99.30%) on the first 100 categories dataset, the training time is dramatically reduced to less than 6% of the original. The topic of traffic signal control (TSC) for urban intersection networks has been a key research area for many years, but comprehensive comparisons among state-of-the-art methodologies remain limited. This calls for a more exhaustive approach to benchmarking TSC techniques. This study builds upon previous TSC benchmarking work by evaluating the performance of both reinforcement learning (RL) and model-based TSC algorithms across a spectrum of demand levels. We adapt new metrics for in-depth simulation analysis and ground our investigation in a real-world urban arterial scenario. Our results unveil a noteworthy observation: the performance of tested algorithms is inconsistent when evaluated under diverse demand levels and across different metrics. This highlights the importance of implementing multidimensional evaluations in future TSC studies for a more nuanced understanding of their performance.

We present AircraftVerse, a publicly available aerial vehicle design dataset. Aircraft design encompasses different physics domains and, hence, multiple modalities of representation. The evaluation of these cyber-physical system (CPS) designs requires the use of scientific analytical and simulation models ranging from computer- aided design tools for structural and manufacturing analysis, computational fluid dynamics tools for drag and lift computation, battery models for energy estimation, and simulation models for flight control and dynamics. AircraftVerse contains 27,714 diverse air vehicle designs - the largest corpus of engineering designs with this level of complexity. Each design comprises the following artifacts: a symbolic design tree describing topology, propulsion subsystem, battery subsystem, and other design details; a STandard for the Exchange of Product (STEP) model data; a 3D CAD design using a stereolithography (STL) file format; a 3D point cloud for the shape of the design; and evaluation results from high fidelity state-of-the-art physics models that characterize performance metrics such as maximum flight distance and hover-time. We also present baseline surrogate models that use different modalities of design representation to predict design performance metrics, which we provide as part of our dataset release. Finally, we discuss the potential impact of this dataset on the use of learning in aircraft design and, more generally, in CPS. AircraftVerse is accompanied by a data card, and it is released under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) license. Sarcasm is essential in human interaction, particularly on social networking, where individuals share their feelings through criticism, humour, and satire. Sarcasm detection is vital in understanding the context of communication and the sentiment on platforms such as Twitter. This presents sarcasm detection as a complex problem in natural language processing (NLP). The challenges and importance upsurge, particularly in languages such as Arabic and Urdu, where resources for NLP are inadequate. The classical rule-based techniques need to improve performance owing to sarcasm's context-based and subtle nature. On the other hand, the current developments in deep learning (DL) and NLP offer efficient solutions. Therefore, this study presents an Applied Intelligence with Deep Learning Assisted Automated Sarcasm Recognition Approach (AIDL-ASRA) on Twitter Data. The presented AIDL-ASRA technique concentrates on identifying sarcastic and non-sarcastic contexts in tweets. In the AIDL-ASRA technique, the initial pre-processing stage is executed with different subprocesses. Next, Global Vectors for Word Representation (GloVe)-based word embedding process occurs. The AIDL-ASRA technique utilizes the Discriminative Deep Belief Networks (DDBN) method for sarcasm recognition. The DBN model's effectiveness is improved using the cat swarm optimization (CSO) model. A set of experiments were involved in evaluating the performance of the AIDL-ASRA method under the Arabic sarcastic dataset comprising 10,000 tweets. The experimental validation of the AIDL-ASRA method attained a superior accuracy value of 91.25 % over existing techniques under distinct measures. © 2025 The Authors

Architectural Distortion (AD) is a common abnormality in digital mammograms, alongside masses and microcalcifications. Detecting AD in dense breast tissue is particularly challenging due to its heterogeneous asymmetries and subtle presentation. Factors such as location, size, shape, texture, and variability in patterns contribute to reduced sensitivity. To address these challenges, we propose a novel feature fusion-based Vision Transformer (ViT) attention network, combined with VGG-16, to improve accuracy and efficiency in AD detection. Our approach mitigates issues related to texture fixation, background boundaries, and deep neural network limitations, enhancing the robustness of AD classification in mammograms. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model achieves state-of-the-art performance, outperforming eight existing deep learning models. On the PINUM dataset, it attains 0.97 sensitivity, 0.92 F1-score, 0.93 precision, 0.94 specificity, and 0.96 accuracy. On the DDSM dataset, it records 0.93 sensitivity, 0.91 F1-score, 0.94 precision, 0.92 specificity, and 0.95 accuracy. These results highlight the potential of our method for computer-aided breast cancer diagnosis, particularly in low-resource settings where access to high-end imaging technology is limited. By enabling more accurate and timely AD detection, our approach could significantly improve breast cancer screening and early intervention worldwide. © 2013 IEEE.

This research topic collects the latest works focusing on approaches and analysis for medical neuroimaging data with limitations. With the increasing development of deep learning and artificial intelligence, it also attracts attention from researchers in medical and clinical fields [1]. Adopting deep learning technology in processing medical images and signals and benefiting from the powerful feature extraction ability of convolutional neural networks, deep learning-based artificial medicine has achieved great success in the past few years [2]. However, owing to the difference between natural and medical images, in other words, some specific characteristics of medical images, adopting deep learning to process medical images directly may face numerous problems. Particularly, medical imaging, including neuroimaging data, may acquire data with few annotations, low signal-to-noise ratio, or small experimental samples, resulting in serious performance degradation during data processing [3]. Hence, how to solve these issues and improve the data analysis performance is still a challenge. In recent years, some works have emerged towards these issues in medical neuroimaging data, such as semi-supervised learning [4], weakly supervised learning [5], unsupervised learning [6], transfer learning [7], and so on. In this research topic, there are also some feasible ways for medical neuroimaging data with limitations. In the first article of this topic [8], a Soft-DTW-based single-subject short-distance event-related potential averaging method is introduced for the low signal-to-noise ratio and feature extraction issues of N400 data. Specifically, N400 data is a time-domain EEG feature, which is thought to reflect the information processing ways of human brains.
