This study presents a comprehensive benchmarking analysis of cryptographic protocols for Internet of Things (IoT) malware defense. The framework was specifically tailored to evaluate cryptographic protocols such as AES-128, AES-256, ChaCha20, RSA (1024-bit, 2048-bit, and 4096-bit), SHA256, SHA512, and HMAC-SHA256 were tested in both standalone and emulated environments. The primary objective was to evaluate the performance and resource consumption of these protocols, focusing on their encryption and hashing efficiency. Key innovations include the comparative analysis of resource consumption and performance efficiency across diverse cryptographic operations, under both real-world and emulated conditions. By identifying protocols like ChaCha20 for high efficiency and minimal resource usage, and RSA 4096-bit for enhanced security at higher computational costs, this study provides actionable insights into the trade-offs between security and performance. These findings offer a foundational reference for selecting optimized cryptographic protocols, advancing IoT malware defense strategies through informed decision-making.

The transition to a renewable energy (RE) based future necessitates transformative changes in the industrial sector's energy infrastructure. As industries strive to maintain economic viability while achieving decarbonization goals, there is a pressing need for innovative strategies that integrate renewable energy sources, enhance energy efficiency, and optimize energy procurement. This paper presents a comprehensive approach that leverages a combination of simulation and optimization methods to address the challenges of designing and operating complex future industrial energy systems. A nested optimization approach is proposed, which combines Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) for operational optimization with black-box optimization techniques. The approach enables exploration of solutions for optimal infrastructure investment as well as operational strategies, allowing companies to benchmark a wide range of infrastructure and contractual options. This provides these companies with the means to determine long-term, cost-effective pathways that minimize CO2 emissions, avoid malinvestments, and ensure the sustainable operation of energy systems. A case study involving a German waste processing company illustrates the practical application of our approach, highlighting how strategic decisions in asset dimensioning, energy flexibility utilization, and renewable integration can significantly impact both costs and emissions.

In an era of heightened digital interconnectedness, businesses increasingly rely on third-party vendors to enhance their operational capabilities. However, this growing dependency introduces significant security risks, making it crucial to develop a robust framework to mitigate potential vulnerabilities. This paper proposes a comprehensive secure framework for managing third-party vendor risk, integrating blockchain technology to ensure transparency, traceability, and immutability in vendor assessments and interactions. By leveraging blockchain, the framework enhances the integrity of vendor security audits, ensuring that vendor assessments remain up-to-date and tamper-proof. This proposed framework leverages smart contracts to reduce human error while ensuring real-time monitoring of compliance and security controls. By evaluating critical security controls—such as data encryption, access control mechanisms, multi-factor authentication, and zero-trust architecture—this approach strengthens an organization’s defense against emerging cyber threats. Additionally, continuous monitoring enabled by blockchain ensures the immutability and transparency of vendor compliance processes. In this paper, a case study on iHealth’s transition to AWS Cloud demonstrates the practical implementation of the framework, showing a significant reduction in vulnerabilities and marked improvement in incident response times. Through the adoption of this blockchain-enabled approach, organizations can mitigate vendor risks, streamline compliance, and enhance their overall security posture. Our findings highlight the importance of employing blockchain to enforce security controls and maintain compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA. Low rank tensor ring based data recovery algorithms have been widely used in data-driven consumer electronics to recover missing data entries in the collecting data pre-processing stage for providing stable and reliable service. However, traditional recovery methods often fail to utilize the abundant prior knowledge of data and the non-local self-similarity of the data, thus leading to the failure to effectively capture the spatial relationships within high-dimensional data to recover them accurately. To address these problems, we present a novel Non-local Self-similarity and Low-rank Prior Knowledge based tensor ring completion method. Firstly, we incorporate the BM3D denoising operator within a Plug-and-Play framework to exploit the self-similarity in the data. Then a logarithmic determinant function is integrated to distinguish singular values in the cyclic unfolding matrix of the tensor and adopts a tensor ring completion approach based on weighted nuclear norms. Finally, in order to evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed method, we conducted a series of experiments by using the missing image dataset and the missing traffic data dataset respectively, and the experimental results show that our method achieves the highest level in terms of data recovery accuracy. © 2024 IEEE.

To bridge the digital barrier between those with disabilities and those without impairments, several applications can be operated by brain signals. It highlights the importance of employing brain-computer interfaces (BCI) and mentions a specific system called the "Brain-Controlled computer System" that can control a computer cursor and perform mouse actions using brain signals.. The system can control the cursor and provide mouse left/right click with brain signals using a low-cost Brainlink Lite device. Based on this system, we employed machine learning and deep learning methodologies to develop a system that classifies brain signals for cursor movement. The methodology involved gathering user input through surveys, interviews, and comparison studies, as well as utilizing pre-developed datasets collected using a mind sensor. We initially trained a model on a previous dataset, achieving approximately 70% accuracy. However, when applied to the new dataset, the accuracy dropped to 49%. To improve the results, we experimented with more complex models, including additional layers and a dropout layer to prevent overfitting. Despite these enhancements, the accuracy only reached a maximum of 52%. The research team collected a dataset tailored to their specific application. They made a groundbreaking discovery by applying a convolutional neural network (CNN), typically used for image analysis, to process continuous brainwave data. Despite this non-standard use, their hypothesis proved correct, with the CNN model achieving an impressive 80% accuracy in classifying brain signals for controlling a cursor.

Sorting and searching are critical processes for effecttive data analysis. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of various sorting and searching algorithms and compare their time and space complexities on both sorted and unsorted data. The algorithms we analyzed include six common sorting algorithms (insertion, radix, bucket, merge, bubble, and quick sort) and three search algorithms (linear, binary, and jump search). The results of our study provide insights into the best algorithms to use for different input sizes and types of data. It was found that for small input sizes, all algorithms perform similarly, but for larger input sizes, insertion and radix sorts are better for time complexity while bubble sort is better for space complexity. Additionally, jump search outperformed linear and binary search algorithms in both time and space complexity. Besides, difference between time and space complexity of sorted and unsorted data was significant.

The inspection of products and assessment of quality is connected with high costs and time effort in many industrial domains. This also applies to the forestry industry. Utilizing state-of-the-art deep learning models allows automizing the analysis of wooden piles in a vision-based manner. In this work, a parallel two-step approach is presented for the segmentation and multi-facet classification of individual logs, according to the wood type and quality. The present approach is based on a preliminary log localization step and like this allows determining the quality, volume and also the value of individual logs, respectively the whole wooden pile. Using a YOLOv4 model for wood species classification for douglas firs, pines and larches results in an accuracy of 74.53%, while a quality classification model for spruce logs reaches 86.58%. In addition to that, the trained U-NET segmentation model reaches an accuracy of 93%. In the future, the underlying data set and models will be further improved and integrated to a mobile application for the on site analysis of wooden piles by foresters. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In recent years, many crowdsourcing platforms have emerged, using the resources of recruited workers to perform diverse outsourcing tasks, where the video analytics attracts much attention due to its practical implications. For maximum profits, platforms carefully choose the workers and determine the video analytics configurations to ensure accuracy; meanwhile, workers possess the flexibility to tailor the configurations for their indivi-dual gains, which makes it hard for platforms to optimize their profits considering the platform-worker conflicts. In this paper, we design an incentive mechanism for Multi-leader game-based video Analytics upon CROwdsourcing, named MACRO, to over-come the above situation. Under that mechanism, we first formu-late the utility optimization problems for platforms and workers, respectively. We then propose a dual ascent-based method to op-timally determine the video analytics configurations for a multi-platform game, ensuring Pareto efficiency. Moreover, in the context of a multi-leader game involving platform-worker conflicts, we design an incentive function with its incentive factor update strategy and propose an ADMM-based approach for maximizing incentives that motivate workers to contribute to the platforms' profits. Rigorous proofs demonstrate the linear convergence of the MACRO to the multi-leader Stackelberg equilibrium. Trace-driven experiments show that MACRO improves the Pareto efficiency by 26.3%, outperforming other approaches.

Research on software reliability growth models (SRGMs) has been extensively conducted for decades, and the models were often developed based on two assumptions: (1) once the errors are detected, they can be completely removed instantly, and (2) errors can be removed eternally, and the debugging tasks will not produce any new errors. However, both assumptions are unrealistic. This study proposes an SRGM that ignores these restricted assumptions by introducing a detection process that may remove an error after a period of time once it has been detected and by considering imperfect debugging, which indicates that new errors may emerge through corresponding debugging tasks. In addition, because software can be upgraded to respond on a timely basis to constantly changing consumer expectations and thus extend product life in the market, the proposed SRGM also considers software upgrades for the multiversion software, and a dynamic programming approach is used to effectively obtain the optimal release schedule with consideration of the constraint of budget. Real data sets are used to examine the effectiveness of the proposed model, and the fitting results show that the proposed model outperforms other existing models. The results of numerical validation indicate that the proposed dynamic programming method with information updating outperforms the sequential solution method in determining the optimal release time for each version. Moreover, decision makers should carefully evaluate the parameters because overestimating the parameters of the mean value functions will cause serious software risk due to excessively shortening the testing time. © 2023 INFORMS.
