Demand forecasting is one of the essential issues in the Mobility-on-Demand (MoD) systems. Most deep learning-based models address this issue by point prediction, which neglects stochasticity in the forecasting result. In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning-based model, the tailored recurrent mixture density network (RMDN), to forecast the demand density in the MoD systems. The tailored RMDN integrates the time-dependent sequence of historical mobility demand information with the temporal features to forecast the short-term demand density. Unlike the point prediction in the existing work, the forecasting result by tailored RMDN benefits from the predicted parameters. Namely, the predicted weights, means, and variances can be utilized to parameterize a Gaussian mixture model that can denote any shape of demand distribution. We then conduct a group of numerical experiments on the New York yellow taxi trip record data. The validation results show that by integrating the temporal features in MoD data, the tailored RMDN model can significantly improve the demand density forecasting results compared to the statistical time-series prediction model ARIMA. In particular, the tailored RMDN model outperforms the ARIMA model up to 51.3% in terms of the log-likelihood values. In addition, we observe that the tailored RMDN is tremendously superior to ARIMA in handling the high volatility in MoD demand.

The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm is drastically changing our world by making everyday objects an integral part of the Internet. This transformation is increasingly being adopted in the healthcare sector, where Smart Hospitals are now relying on IoT technologies to track staff, patients, devices, and equipment, both within a hospital and beyond. This paradigm opens the door to new innovations for creating novel types of interactions among objects, services, and people in smarter ways to enhance the quality of patient services and the efficient utilisation of resources. However, the realisation of real-time IoT applications in healthcare and, ultimately, the development of Smart Hospitals are constrained by their current Cloud-based computing environment. Edge computing emerged as a new computing model that harnesses edge-based resources alongside Clouds for real-time IoT applications. It helps to capitalise on the potential economic impact of the IoT paradigm of $11 trillion per year, with a trillion IoT devices deployed by 2025 to sense, manage and monitor the hospital systems in real-time. This vision paper proposes new algorithms and software systems to tackle important challenges in Edge computing-enabled Smart Hospitals, including how to manage and execute diverse real-time IoT applications and how to meet their diverse and strict Quality of Service (QoS) requirements in hospital settings. This paper addresses the challenge of enhancing the quality of medical data interpretation, specifically using color microscopic medical images for effective visualization and further analysis. The method employed involves increasing contrast by adjusting the brightness intensity values within the Lab color model, which also considers the reference white point for horizontal light. To determine the parameters for the contrasting procedure, two strategies for selecting gamma correction of the input image are explored, based on the dynamics of the resulting image quality for various no-reference quality metrics. By analyzing these dynamics, the choice of correction conditions for the contrasting procedure can be justified, rather than relying on static metrics. The paper investigates the application of these proposed strategies on different types of images, presents a formal generalization of the strategies for selecting correction parameters, and offers practical recommendations for their use.

AircraftVerse: A Large-Scale Multimodal Dataset of Aerial Vehicle Designs

We present AircraftVerse, a publicly available aerial vehicle design dataset. Aircraft design encompasses different physics domains and, hence, multiple modalities of representation. The evaluation of these cyber-physical system (CPS) designs requires the use of scientific analytical and simulation models ranging from computer-aided design tools for structural and manufacturing analysis, computational fluid dynamics tools for drag and lift computation, battery models for energy estimation, and simulation models for flight control and dynamics. AircraftVerse contains 27,714 diverse air vehicle designs - the largest corpus of engineering designs with this level of complexity. Each design comprises the following artifacts: a symbolic design tree describing topology, propulsion subsystem, battery subsystem, and other design details;a STandard for the Exchange of Product (STEP) model data;a 3D CAD design using a stereolithography (STL) file format;a 3D point cloud for the shape of the design;and evaluation results from high fidelity state-of-the-art physics models that characterize performance metrics such as maximum flight distance and hover-time. We also present baseline surrogate models that use different modalities of design representation to predict design performance metrics, which we provide as part of our dataset release. Finally, we discuss the potential impact of this dataset on the use of learning in aircraft design and, more generally, in CPS. The significant problem in the area of sustainable development is the effective management of water resources. There are a number of approaches for resolving this issue in the literature, particularly in the agricultural sector, which serves as the primary consumer through irrigation. As a result, irrigation management is a crucial and cutting-edge discipline that has been the focus of several research and study projects to address the various activities, behaviors, and conflicts between the various users. This paper introduces an intelligent irrigation system based on smart sensors that can be used sparingly and affordably to monitor farms. By incorporating some connected electronic devices and other useful tools frequently used in the field of IoT, it calculates the water requirement of each farm based on the water loss caused by the process of evapotranspiration. Data gathered from a number of sensors placed across the plantation farm are used to determine the amount of water needed. It may be utilized by farmer organizations whose endowments and irrigation planning are determined according to the requirement and quantity of water available in the rural municipality. This project focuses on smart irrigation based on IoT. Each node in the system functions as an IoT device and incorporates a microprocessor with the integration of sensors, actuators, and valve modules. An irrigation management system simplifies the operation of each node and configuration settings for irrigation allow for the direct monitoring of environmental factors. The Penman model is used to get the daily evapotranspiration baseline and is used to calculate the quantity of water needed for irrigation. The suggested irrigation approach is anticipated to help reduce water usage and distribute it fairly without affecting crop productivity compared to the traditional irrigation system.

software testing is very important in software development to ensure its quality and reliability. As software systems have become more complex, the number of test cases has increased, which presents the challenge of executing all the tests in a limited time frame. Various test case prioritization techniques have been introduced to solve this problem. These methods aim to identify and implement the most critical tests first. In this paper, we propose an implementation of a dynamic test case prioritization strategy to improve software quality by increasing code coverage with special attention to edge case handling. Edge case test prioritization is a technique that improves test efficiency by selecting extreme case scenarios that can reveal critical bugs or unexpected behavior early in development, improving overall software reliability and dependability. In order to prioritize test cases, this paper presents a regression-based method that makes use of machine learning algorithms. The approach leverages previous performance data to optimize regression testing efficiency by examining variables like test time and execution status. Performance evaluations, when compared against industry standards and cutting-edge techniques, show how effective these algorithms are at correctly prioritizing test cases and identifying faults. This study offers simplified yet reliable solutions for regression testing optimization by shedding light on the efficacy of regression algorithms, such as Random Forest and decision trees.

computer-Aided Pronunciation Training (CAPT) systems are gaining popularity recently due to the advancements in deep neural networks (DNN) and machine learning and the availability of databases of speech of language learners. Unfortunately, research in Arabic CAPT systems suffer from the lack of CAPT datasets compared to other languages. In this paper, we present the details of and the ideas used in the development of a versatile dataset of speech, real and synthesized, of Arabic Learners. To develop the dataset, we utilized an existing Arabic speech corpus, King Saud University Speech Database (KSU-SD). KSU-SD's main application was a speaker recognition system, but it was designed to be useful in other applications such as CAPT systems. KSU-SD includes a large number of speakers from diverse nationalities (Saudis, Arabs, and Non-Arabs). KSU-SD contains the recording of about 60 non-native speakers from more than 20 nationalities, hence we selected it to build the non-native Arabic-CAPT corpus. The developed corpus consists of transcribed, segmented, and annotated speech, which makes it suitable for building Arabic CAPT systems. In addition to presenting the details of developing the dataset, we also present an analysis of the text and speech errors of the dataset. The dataset was verified by many CAPT systems.

The swift proliferation of IoT devices in smart home ecosystems has resulted in notable interoperability issues due to the presence of numerous conflicting communication protocols, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, MQTT, CoAP, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. Current solutions frequently depend on static protocol mapping, which proves inadequate for the dynamic nature of smart home environments where network conditions and device needs are in constant flux. In this paper, we introduce the Dynamic IoT Protocol Adaptation Framework (DIP A), which merges Reinforcement Learning (RL) with Multi-Armed Bandit (MAB) optimization to facilitate real-time, adaptive protocol selection. DIPA leverages edge computing for predictive decision-making and incorporates Graph Neural Networks (GNN) to assess protocol compatibility. A middleware-based protocol translation layer guarantees seamless integration across varied IoT systems. We assess the framework using a sandbox populated with actual IoT data to evaluate performance concerning adaptability, latency, energy consumption, and scalability. The findings indicate that DIP A diminishes latency by 35% and enhances energy efficiency by 28% when compared to static adaptation approaches. The proposed framework augments interoperability, optimizes resource management, and fosters flexible communication within smart home environments.

In this contribution, we study the numerical approximation of scalar conservation laws by computational optimization of the numerical flux function in a first-order finite volume method. The cell-averaging inherent to finite volume schemes presents a challenge in the design of such numerical flux functions toward achieving high solution accuracy. Dense neural networks, as well as (piecewise) polynomials, serve as function classes for the numerical flux. Using a parametrization of such a function class, we optimize the numerical flux with respect to its solution accuracy on a set of Riemann problems for which we have closed-form solutions. By design, our resulting first-order finite volume schemes are *** show empirically that the proposed schemes can achieve higher accuracy than the Godunov and EnquistOsher method on a wide range of *** proposed method can be applied to the inverse problem, i.e., the data-driven synthesis of macroscopic physical laws for real-world flux phenomena. © 2023, The Authors. Ceylon tea industry faces a major challenge in the form of pathogen-induced crop loss, with Blister Blight (BB) caused by Exobasidium vexans posing the greatest threat, leading to harvest losses of over 30%. This fungus attacks the tender tea shoots, resulting in a direct negative impact on the tea harvest. This paper presents a system to identify the suspicious tea leaves and BB disease at its early stages along with an assessment of severity, offering a potential solution to this critical issue. By utilizing real-time object detection, the system filters out non-tea leaves from the captured initial image of a segment of a tea plant. The identified tea leaves are then subjected to BB identification and severity assessment based on differing visual symptoms of the BB stages. This approach enables the system to accurately identify BB in the initial stage and severity stage, allowing for timely and targeted intervention to minimize crop losses. The YOLOv8 model has been able to correctly identify 98% of the objects it has detected as relevant (precision), and it has been able to correctly identify 96% of all the relevant objects present in the scene (recall). The Residual Network 50 (Resnet50) convolutional neural network (CNN) model was selected as the final model, achieving an accuracy of 89.90% during the training phase and an accuracy of 88.26% during the testing phase.
