It is still challenging to cluster multi-view data since existing methods can only assign an object to a specific (singleton) cluster when combining different view information. As a result, it fails to characterize imprecision of objects in overlapping regions of different clusters, thus leading to a high risk of errors. In this paper, we thereby want to answer the question: how to characterize imprecision in multi-view clustering? Correspondingly, we propose a multi-view low-rank evidential c-means based on entropy constraint (MvLRECM). The proposed MvLRECM can be considered as a multi-view version of evidential c-means based on the theory of belief functions. In MvLRECM, each object is allowed to belong to different clusters with various degrees of support (masses of belief) to characterize uncertainty when decision-making. Moreover, if an object is in the overlapping region of several singleton clusters, it can be assigned to a meta-cluster, defined as the union of these singleton clusters, to characterize the local imprecision in the result. In addition, entropy-weighting and low-rank constraints are employed to reduce imprecision and improve accuracy. This position paper summarizes the inputs of a group of experts from academia and industry presenting their view on chances and challenges of using ChatGPT within Modeling and Simulation education. The experts also address the need to evaluate continuous education as well as education of faculty members to address scholastic challenges and opportunities while meeting the expectation of industry. Generally, the use of ChatGPT is encouraged, but it needs to be embedded into an updated curriculum with more emphasis on validity constraints, systems thinking, and ethics.

The Metaverse offers a second world beyond reality, where boundaries are non-existent, and possibilities are endless through engagement and immersive experiences using the virtual reality (VR) technology. Many disciplines can benefit from the advancement of the Metaverse when accurately developed, including the fields of technology, gaming, education, art & culture, socialization, commerce, and businesses. Nevertheless, developing the Metaverse environment to its full potential is an ambiguous task that needs proper guidance and directions. Existing surveys on the Metaverse focus only on a specific aspect and discipline of the Metaverse and lack a holistic view of the entire process. Moreover, most surveys refrain from providing detailed guidance about the development process of the metaverse, including its impact on technologies, businesses, existing challenges, and potential research directions due to their lack of a macro and micro perception of such a topic. To this end, a more holistic, multi-disciplinary, in-depth, and academic and industry-oriented review is required to provide a thorough study of the Metaverse development pipeline and fill the gap in existing Metaverse surveys. To address these issues, we present in this survey a novel multi-layered pipeline ecosystem composed of (1) the Metaverse computing, networking, communications and hardware infrastructure, (2) environment digitization, and (3) user interactions. For every layer, we discuss the components that detail the steps of its development. Also, for each of these components, we examine the impact of a set of enabling technologies and empowering domains (e.g., Artificial Intelligence, Security & Privacy, Blockchain, Business, Ethics, and Social) on its advancement. In addition, we explain the importance of these technologies to support decentralization, interoperability, user experiences, interactions, and monetization. Photovoltaic systems (PV) are exposed to various weather conditions during the day and getting the maximum power of a PV system is one of its major challenges. While the conventional methods take time to track the maximum power accompanying the fluctuation around the maximum power. Consequently, several metaheuristic algorithms have been presented to overcome the fluctuating around the maximum power. On the other hand optimization methods will search into entire the PV curve to extract the maximum power. This leads to unnecessary search points during the uniform shading conditions which decrease the convergence speed towards the maximum power. In overcoming the tracking time issues as well as the capacity to distinguish between uniform and partial shading conditions, a quick and efficient tracking technique connected to the grid system was presented in this paper. The proposed system, has been tested using MATLAB/SIMULINK, which includes a boost converter to track the maximum power with a sampling time of 0.05 seconds, While a voltage source converter (VSC) is used to transfer the power generated by solar panels to the grid. The simulation results demonstrated that the proposed method was successfully implemented, with an average tracking time of 0.412 s for different weather conditions. Moreover, the comparison with the conventional method of perturb and observe (P& O) has been presented to evaluate the proposed method’s efficiency.

This paper presents a fused deep learning algorithm for ECG classification. It takes advantages of the combined convolutional and recurrent neural network for ECG classification, and the weight allocation capability of attention mechanism. The input ECG signals are firstly segmented and normalized, and then fed into the combined VGG and LSTM network for feature extraction and classification. An attention mechanism (SE block) is embedded into the core network for increasing the weight of important features. Two databases from different sources and devices are employed for performance validation, and the results well demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed algorithm. Cloud service providers are provisioning resources including a variety of virtual machine instances to support customers that migrate their services to the cloud. From the customers’ perspective, selecting the appropriate amount of resources is tightly coupled with performance and cost. By identifying the potential resource bottlenecks in the early stage of the service deployment process, resource planning can be significantly optimized. However, due to the unpredictable workloads and heterogeneous resources, it is difficult to identify resource bottlenecks that can degrade system performance. To support system non-functional requirements (NFR) in a better manner, we propose a reinforcement learning based approach to support the NFR management of system concerning the multiple services interactions scenario by identifying the potential resource bottleneck and optimizing the demanded resources. The proposed approach can predict the resource bottleneck for multiple services interactions, e.g. bottleneck in CPU or overloads in specific service, and provide guidance for resource planning. We modeled and simulated the proposed approach using an extended version of the CloudSim toolkit. Comprehensive evaluations with realistic use case from Siemens Digital Industries software’s MindSphere Solution on AliCloud show that our proposed approach can achieve high accuracy in terms of performance metrics, such as response time, queries per second (QPS), and resource usage. © 2021, ICST Institute for computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering.

Image denoising has been used in various edge computing scenarios such as consumer electronics to improve the image quality and user experience. Existing image denoising methods based on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and vision Transformers achieve good performance by empirically utilizing residual neural network (ResNet) as basic component. However, ResNet lacks interpretability in network design and also long-term memory of features, potentially restricting the performance of denoising networks. In this paper, we propose an Implicit Multi-scale Swin Transformer Network (IMSNet) for image denoising, which introduces the implicit Euler scheme from the feature memory perspective. Specifically, densely connected implicit feature extraction blocks (IFEBs) are designed to learn the residual mapping between noisy and clean images. The IFEB reformulates the initial skip connection of ResNet based on the implicit Euler discretization, providing both network interpretability and long-term memory. In IFEB, the multi-scale swin Transformer block (MSB) is designed as the implicit layer to capture spatial details and non-local contextual information at different scales. Additionally, a cross-layer feature fusion block (CLFF) is proposed to further improve feature reuse capabilities. Compared to existing denoising networks, the extensive experiments demonstrate the superior performance of our IMSNet in various image denoising tasks, and the flexibility in the practical applications with proposed light model on resource-restricted platforms such as consumer electronic devices. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Quantum computing (QC) is no longer only a scientific interest but is rapidly becoming an industrially available technology that can potentially tackle the limitations of classical computing. Over the last few years, major technology giants have invested in developing hardware and programming frameworks to develop quantum-specific applications. QC hardware technologies are gaining momentum, however, operationalizing the QC technologies trigger the need for software-intensive methodologies, techniques, processes, tools, roles, and responsibilities for developing industrial-centric quantum software applications. This paper presents the vision of the quantum software engineering (QSE) life cycle consisting of quantum requirements engineering, quantum software design, quantum software implementation, quantum software testing, and quantum software maintenance. This paper particularly calls for joint contributions of software engineering research and industrial community to present real-world solutions to support the entire quantum software development activities. The proposed vision facilitates the researchers and practitioners to propose new processes, reference architectures, novel tools, and practices to leverage quantum computers and develop emerging and next generations of quantum software. © 2022, CC BY.

Federated Learning (FL) is a revolutionary privacy-preserving distributed learning framework that allows a small group of users to cooperatively build a machine-learning model using their own data locally. Smart cities are areas that can generate high volume and critical data, which has the potential to revolutionize federated learning. Nevertheless, it is highly challenging to select a trustworthy group of clients to collaborate in model training. The utilization of a random selection technique would pose many threats due to malicious clients’ targeted and untargeted attacks. Such vulnerability may cause attacks and poisoning in the produced model. To address this problem, we present a mutual trust client-server selection approach based on matching game theory and bootstrapping mechanisms for federated learning in smart cities. Our solution entails the creation of: (1) preference functions for federated servers and smart devices (i.e., IoT/IoV) that enables them to sort each other based on trust score, (2) light feedback-base technique that leverages the cooperation of multiple client devices to assign trust value to the newly connected federated server, and (3) intelligent matching algorithms consider trust preferences of both parties in their design. According to our simulation results, our technique outperforms the baseline selection approach VanillaFL in terms of increasing the trust level and hence the global accuracy of the federated learning model and optimizing the number of untrusted selected clients.
