Entity resolution is a challenging and hot research area in the field of Information systems since last decade. Author Name Disambiguation (AND) in Bibliographic Databases (BD) like DBLP1, Citeseer2, and Scopus3 is a specialized field of entity resolution. Given many citations of underlying authors, the AND task is to find which citations belong to the same author. In this survey, we start with three basic AND problems, followed by need for solution and challenges. A generic, five-step framework is provided for handling AND issues. These steps are;(1) Preparation of dataset (2) Selection of publication attributes (3) Selection of similarity metrics (4) Selection of models and (5) Clustering Performance evaluation. Categorization and elaboration of similarity metrics and methods are also provided. Finally, future directions and recommendations are given for this dynamic area of research. The Canadian wood industry use sawing simulators to digitally break a log into a basket of lumbers. However, those simulators tend to be computationally intensive. In some cases, this renders them impractical as decision support tools. Such a use case is the problem of dispatching large volume of wood to several sawmills in order to maximise total yield in dollars. Fast machine learning metamodels were recently proposed to address this issue. However, the approach needs a feature extraction step which could result in a loss of information. Conversely, it was proposed to directly make use of the raw information, available in the 3D scans of the logs typically used by a recent sawmill simulator, in order to retain that information. Here, we improve upon that method by reducing the computational cost incidental with the processing of those raw scans.

In a green environment, air quality is among the prominent aspects to be considered to prevent pollution and in turn maintain safe air. Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) and Building Related Illness (BRI) are the problems that must be encountered by building occupants. Existing devices are quite expensive, and more attention is needed on monitoring air quality. Therefore, this paper discusses a software-hardware architecture proposal to overcome the existing IAQ data retrieval performance problem. The objective of this work is to analyse the most recent IAQ sensing device developed by the researcher, to evaluate the performance attribute, and to implement the software-hardware architecture based on the Performance-Driven software Architecture Refactoring (PDSAR) method. In order to assess the overall performance of the architecture proposed, the prototype of the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) sensing device was developed. The testing was performed during a period of six months. The results demonstrate that the average performance for 540 readings is 76.67%. This shows that the architecture can be accepted as a generic IAQ sensing device development structure. The device act as an alternative, cheaper and safer device which can be employed by all building owners in the future. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

From home appliances to industrial enterprises, the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry is revolutionizing the world. We are witnessing the emergence of new technologies (e.g, Cloud computing, Fog computing, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Block-chain) which proves the growing use of ICT (e,g. business, education, health and home appliances), resulting in massive data generation. It is expected that more than 175 ZB data will be processed annually by 75 billion devices by 2025. The 5G technology (i.e. mobile communication technology) dramatically increases network speed, enabling users to upload ultra high definition videos in real-time, will generate a massive stream of big data. Furthermore, smart devices, having artificial intelligence, will act like a human being (e.g, a self-driving vehicle etc) on the network, will also generate big data. This sudden shift and massive data generation created serious challenges in storing and managing heterogeneous data at such a large scale. This article presents a state-of-the-art review of the issues and challenges involved in storing heterogeneous big data, their countermeasures (i.e, from security and management perspectives), and future opportunities of cloud storage. Context Agile software development (ASD) aims to deliver high-quality software. However, software quality often gets less attention due to focus on *** an evidence-based quality-aware ASD process that organizations can use to create a more quality-aware development process and improve software *** methodUsing design science research, we collaborated with four organizations applying ASD in different contexts. Involving a total of 35 practitioners, we designed company-specific evidence-based quality-aware ASD processes, which were validated through simulated scenarios, implemented, and evaluated by the practitioners. ResultsA general ASD process model, derived from the company-specific models, was created, which shows the specific activities, frequencies, roles, and development phases where evidence can be used to improve software quality. The new process model contributed towards improved bottleneck identification, release readiness, and quality issues prioritization. We also learned that companies must be mindful of the rules that determine the use of evidence. Conclusion Integrating the use of quality related evidence into the ASD process can make it quality-aware, supporting software quality management, and enabling timely reaction through fast feedback loops. The evidence-based quality-aware ASD process is applicable in any Scrum-like ASD process. Applicability in other forms of ASD, however, requires further research. © 2023, The Authors. Deep generative models have been praised for their ability to learn smooth latent representations of images, text, and audio, which can then be used to generate new, plausible data. Motivated by these success stories, there has been a surge of interest in developing deep generative models for automated molecule design. However, these models face several difficulties due to the unique characteristics of molecular graphs--their underlying structure is not Euclidean or grid-like, they remain isomorphic under permutation of the nodes' labels, and they come with a different number of nodes and edges. In this paper, we first propose a novel variational autoencoder for molecular graphs, whose encoder and decoder are specially designed to account for the above properties by means of several technical innovations. Moreover, in contrast with the state of the art, our decoder is able to provide the spatial coordinates of the atoms of the molecules it generates. Then, we develop a gradient-based algorithm to optimize the decoder of our model so that it learns to generate molecules that maximize the value of certain property of interest and, given any arbitrary molecule, it is able to optimize the spatial configuration of its atoms for greater stability. Experiments reveal that our variational autoencoder can discover plausible, diverse and novel molecules more effectively than several state of the art models. Moreover, for several properties of interest, our optimized decoder is able to identify molecules with property values 121% higher than those identified by several state of the art methods based on Bayesian optimization and reinforcement learning.

Deep Reinforcement Learning-based Methods for Resource Scheduling in Cloud Computing: A Review and Future Directions

With the acceleration of the Internet in Web 2.0, Cloud computing is a new paradigm to offer dynamic, reliable and elastic computing services. Efficient scheduling of resources or optimal allocation of requests is one of the prominent issues in emerging Cloud computing. Considering the growing complexity of Cloud computing, future Cloud systems will require more effective resource management methods. In some complex scenarios with difficulties in directly evaluating the performance of scheduling solutions, classic algorithms (such as heuristics and meta-heuristics) will fail to obtain an effective scheme. Deep reinforcement learning (DRL) is a novel method to solve scheduling problems. Due to the combination of deep learning (DL) and reinforcement learning (RL), DRL has achieved considerable performance in current studies. To focus on this direction and analyze the application prospect of DRL in Cloud scheduling, we provide a comprehensive review for DRL-based methods in resource scheduling of Cloud computing. Through the theoretical formulation of scheduling and analysis of RL frameworks, we discuss the advantages of DRL-based methods in Cloud scheduling. This research presents a methodology for trusting the provenance of data on the web. The implication is that data does not change after publication and the source of the data is stable. There are different data that should not change over time, such as published information in books and similar documents as well as news or events reported on the web. If the data change after publication on the web, the web pages that reference the unstable data will lose points of interest or link to different resources. With the current move to linked data and the semantic web, this is becoming a greater obstacle to be solved. This research presents a methodology for establishing trusted information using an encoded reference of the data embedded in its URI, which creates a stable reference of the data and a method for ensuring its provenance stability. After applying the methodology, the results showed that the methodology is highly applicable and has no overhead cost over the loading time. Most of the existing face photo de-meshing methods have accomplished promising results;there are certain quality problems with these methods like the inpainted regions would appear blurry and unpleasant boundaries becoming visible. Such artifacts cause generated face photos unreal. Therefore, we propose an effective image-to-image translation framework called Face De-meshing Using Generative Adversarial Networks (De-mesh GANs). The De-mesh GANs is a two-stage model: (i) binary mask generating module, is a three convolution layers-based encoder-decoder network architecture that automatically generates a binary mask for the meshed region, and (ii) face photo de-meshing module, is a GANs-based network that eliminates the mesh mask and synthesizes the meshed area. An arrangement of careful losses (reconstruction loss, adversarial loss, and perceptual loss) is used to reassure the better quality of the de-mesh face photos. To facilitate the training of the proposed model, we have designed a dataset of clean/corrupted photo pairs using the CelebA dataset. Qualitative and quantitative evaluations of the De-mesh GANs on real-world corrupted face photo images show better performance than the previously proposed face photo de-meshing models. Furthermore, we also offer the ablation study for performance assessment of the additional network i.e., perceptual network. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
