MLPFormer: MLP-integrated transformer for colorectal histopathology whole slide image segmentation

Colorectal intraepithelial neoplasia is a precancerous lesion of colorectal cancer, which is mainly diagnosed using pathological images. According to the characteristics of lesions, precancerous lesions can be classified into four different grades, i.e., background, normal, low and high level. However, due to the continuity of lesion development, tissue in different stages has high similarity. Recently, visual transformers have achieved impressive results in different visual tasks, due to their capacity of capturing long-range dependencies. However, due to computational cost, transformer cannot well extract detailed feature, which is important for lesion grading. To accurately segment pathological tissues with high similarity, in this work, we embed the multi-head MLP mixer module in the transformer network to extract cell and edge information. Furthermore, we propose a hierarchical MLP decoder to facilitate multi-scale feature fusion. The proposed transformer, namely MLPFormer, achieves remarkable results against competitive baselines on the Histo-CRC Biopsy dataset. The experimental results demonstrate that MLPFormer significantly outperforms the competitive baselines, i.e., a 3% dice improvement is achieved over the SegFormer series. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Cryptography is an essential tool in ensuring the security of data during network communication. Network and service providers prioritize data security to ensure secure data exchanges. Ethiopic cryptography is a unique encryption method that utilizes the Amharic language, prevalent in Ethiopia. Unlike Latin alphabets, Amharic consists of 287 characters, making decryption challenging. The encryption process involves converting the text to Amharic and then mapping it to a pair of randomly chosen two-bit English alphabets, creating an intermediate cipher. The Ethiopic cryptography algorithm employs a hybrid approach, using the RSA algorithm for secure key exchange and the Advanced Encryption Standard algorithm for text confidentiality. The algorithm comprises three phases—translation, mapping, and encryption—contributing to its effectiveness in securing data over the network. Decryption requires familiarity with the Amharic language and mapping details. The algorithm demonstrates a stronger avalanche effect (97%) in comparison with Blowfish and DES. The algorithm is proposed and evaluated using the design science research methodology, and its performance is validated through simulation using MATLAB and BunnaScript tools, considering factors like the avalanche effect, time complexity, and memory consumption. The evaluation shows that the suggested solution operates faster, requires lesser time for data encryption, and uses less memory than other methods in use. Overall, the proposed Ethiopic cryptography algorithm proves to be an efficient and effective method for securing data during network communication, offering stronger text confidentiality and an improved avalanche effect. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Physical rehabilitation is crucial in healthcare, facilitating recovery from injuries or illnesses and improving overall health. However, a notable global challenge stems from the shortage of professional physiotherapists, particularly acute in some developing countries, where the ratio can be as low as one physiotherapist per 100,000 individuals. To address these challenges and elevate patient care, the field of physical rehabilitation is progressively integrating Computer Vision and Human Activity Recognition (HAR) techniques. Numerous research efforts aim to explore methodologies that assist in rehabilitation exercises and evaluate patient movements, which is crucial as incorrect exercises can potentially worsen conditions. This study investigates applying various deep-learning models for classifying exercises using the benchmark KIMORE and UI-PRMD datasets. Employing Bi-LSTM, LSTM, CNN, and CNN-LSTM, alongside a Random Search for architectural design and Hyper-parameter tuning, our investigation reveals the (CNN) model as the top performer. After applying cross-validation, the technique achieves remarkable mean testing accuracy rates of 93.08% on the KIMORE dataset and 99.7% on the UI-PRMD dataset. This marks a slight improvement of 0.75% and 0.1%, respectively, compared to previous techniques. In addition, expanding beyond exercise classification, this study explores the KIMORE dataset’s utility for disease identification, where the (CNN) model consistently demonstrates an outstanding accuracy of 89.87%, indicating its promising role in both exercises and disease identification within the context of physical rehabilitation. © The Author(s) 2024.

The field of computational bioinformatics and systems biology analysis is rapidly expanding due to advancements in bioinformatics tools. Bipolar disorder (BD) is a severe psychiatric condition affecting both adults and adolescents. In recent years, the risk of stroke has increased among individuals with BD. Background studies indicate that BD and stroke share numerous biochemical and genetic characteristics. Due to traditional endocrinological approaches, no collaborative research exists, and no treatment options have been established for BD and stroke patients. The aim of this study is to identify common molecular pathways and potential therapeutic targets in BD and stroke that could be utilized to predict disease progression. To achieve this, shared genes were identified to determine common pathways. Based on the biochemical, molecular, and genetic interactions among these shared genes, this study identifies the most significant hub genes. To further explore these interactions, analysis such as the protein–protein interaction (PPI) network, topological properties, enrichment analysis, co-expression network, gene regulatory network (GRN), and physical interaction network are conducted. The GO annotation indicates that most of the genes are linked to MAP kinase activity and tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily binding. The KEGG pathway analysis revealed that the predominant genes are associated with apoptosis and the IL-18 signaling pathway. This comparison helps understand the biochemical and genetic characteristics shared between BD and stroke. Predictive drug analysis has identified consistent potential biomarkers associated with both conditions, providing a scientific foundation for investigating their diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. Finally, chemical experiments could be conducted to further validate the efficacy of these drugs.

This research explores the use of Fuzzy K-Nearest Neighbor(F-KNN)and Artificial Neural Networks(ANN)for predicting heart stroke incidents,focusing on the impact of feature selection methods,specifically Chi-Square and Best First Search(BFS).The study demonstrates that BFS significantly enhances the performance of both *** BFS preprocessing,the ANN model achieved an impressive accuracy of 97.5%,precision and recall of 97.5%,and an Receiver Operating Characteristics(ROC)area of 97.9%,outperforming the Chi-Square-based ANN,which recorded an accuracy of 91.4%.Similarly,the F-KNN model with BFS achieved an accuracy of 96.3%,precision and recall of 96.3%,and a Receiver Operating Characteristics(ROC)area of 96.2%,surpassing the performance of the Chi-Square F-KNN model,which showed an accuracy of 95%.These results highlight that BFS improves the ability to select the most relevant features,contributing to more reliable and accurate stroke *** findings underscore the importance of using advanced feature selection methods like BFS to enhance the performance of machine learning models in healthcare applications,leading to better stroke risk management and improved patient outcomes.

Accurately synthesizing talking face videos and capturing fine facial features for individuals with long hair presents a significant challenge. To tackle these challenges in existing methods, we propose a decomposed per-embedding Gaussian fields (DEGSTalk), a 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS)-based talking face synthesis method for generating realistic talking faces with long hairs. Our DEGSTalk employs Deformable Pre-Embedding Gaussian Fields, which dynamically adjust pre-embedding Gaussian primitives using implicit expression coefficients. This enables precise capture of dynamic facial regions and subtle expressions. Additionally, we propose a Dynamic Hair-Preserving Portrait Rendering technique to enhance the realism of long hair motions in the synthesized videos. Results show that DEGSTalk achieves improved realism and synthesis quality compared to existing approaches, particularly in handling complex facial dynamics and hair preservation. Traditional LiDAR SLAM approaches prioritize localization over mapping, yet high-precision dense maps are essential for numerous applications involving intelligent agents. Recent advancements have introduced methods leveraging neural fields to enhance mapping capabilities;however, these approaches still face several limitations. Firstly, concerning scene representation, they typically employ neural fields with high-dimensional features and multi-layer perceptron decoders utilizing non-continuous activation functions. This results in low learning efficiency and challenges in capturing high-frequency signals. Secondly, in terms of scene organization, these methods often treat the entire scene as a singular neural field, leading to inefficiencies, inflexibility, and difficulties in rectifying accumulated errors when mapping large-scale environments over extended periods. To tackle the first issue, we propose a lightweight continuous SDF regression approach by encoding the scene in single-valued embeddings and decoding SDF values from a Kolmogorov-Arnold Network. By minimizing discrepancies in measuring range, sampling distance, and decoded SDF values, we facilitate iterative frame-to-model tracking and bundle adjustment neural mapping. To mitigate the second challenge, we propose structuring the whole scene into multiple neural SDF submaps. By establishing node-node, node-submap, and loop closure constraints into a global pose graph, the system can create dense neural maps with global consistency across large-scale scenes. Experimental evaluations in both real-world and simulated settings indicate that our system achieves superior mapping completeness and accuracy, enhanced learning efficiency, reduced memory consumption, and greater flexibility compared to its counterparts. © 2025 IEEE.

Buck converters are a common converter of DCDC used for high energy conversion and power sources. These regulators are utilized in electronic gear to alter the result voltage because of changes in the heap current and information voltage. Therefore, in order to react to enquiries in real time, an efficient control system is required. In this work, an upgraded Sine Cosine Algorithm (ISCA) with proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller is proposed for Mult objective optimization of a DC-DC buck converter. Through two distinct modifications, the limitations of the traditional SCA were therefore addressed, leading to the innovative use of nonlinear equations in conjunction with instrumental mechanisms to update the average location. By contrasting its response for frequency, response for increment, uncertainties of parametric, statistics of time-space indispensable error execution, objective capability, and resistance from aggravation with the previous methods-based PID for buck converters of DC-DC, the suggested ISCA-PID technique's robustness was *** results obtained later revealed that the suggested approach outperformed its algorithmic predecessors in terms of the DC-DC buck converter's remarkably improved transient responsiveness.

Computational network analysis of two popular skin cancers provides insights into the molecular mechanisms and reveals common therapeutic targets

Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) and Actinic Keratosis (AK) are prevalent skin conditions with significant health complications. The molecular mechanisms underlying these conditions and their potential shared pathways remain ambiguous despite their prevalence. Therefore, this study aims to elucidate the common molecular pathways and potential therapeutic targets for BCC and AK through comprehensive computational network analysis. Linkage analysis was performed to identify common liable genes between BCC and AK. Protein-protein interactions (PPIs), Topological properties, GO enrichment, pathway enrichment, and gene regulatory network analyses were also performed to reveal potential molecular mechanisms and pathways. Furthermore, we evaluated protein-drug interactions (PDIs) to identify potential therapeutic targets. Our analysis revealed 22 common genes between BCC and AK: TP53, EGFR, CDKN2A, MMP9, PTGS2, VDR, BCL2, MMP2, EZH2, TP63, FOXP3, MSH2, MMP14, FLG, MC1R, CDKN2B, TIMP3, TYR, SOX10, IRF4, KRT17, and NID1. PPI network analysis highlighted TP53 and EGFR as central hubs, validated using RNA-seq data. Co-expression and physical interaction analysis revealed a strong interplay between the common genes at the transcriptional and functional levels. GO analysis identified skin cancer-relevant terms: "skin development", "immune system development", and “response to radiation” as significantly enriched biological processes, while pathway enrichment analysis highlighted several cancer-related pathways enrichment. Gene regulatory network analysis revealed complex interactions between genes, miRNAs, and transcription factors, with TP53, BCL2, and EGFR playing central roles. PDI network analysis identified ibuprofen as a potential therapeutic agent targeting PTGS2 and BCL2, while other proteins VDR, MMP2, MMP9, and TYR showed interactions with multiple drugs.
