The food supply chain at present is important to the human and there have a lot of transportation modes to distribute food from manufacturer to customer also business to business. The customers there need fresh food and the providers always find the best way in logistics that send their food to customers with the best quality and fresh, that is why the cold chain of logistics is popular and needs to improve more for the customers. However, there is no clear way to improve the performance and assessment of food logistics service, the aim of this study focused on service quality of food logistics and identify a set of service quality dimensions that developed from the SERVQUAL model for measuring their logistics process after that researcher prioritized the dimensions and sub-dimensions by Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and finalize the local weight and global weight from AHP result. Finally, this research has shown the providers and the customers were prioritized for punctuality in food logistics service. It should be concern and improvement about punctuality in a food logistics service at the same time, the worst dimension of the provider's perspective is tangible and the customer perspective is empathy, that they did not pay attention it should be improved later. © 2023 IEEE.

The textile and apparel industry is a rapidly growing global market, with the emergence of its complexity, volatility, and competitiveness. As a result, consumer demand for transparency in the supply chain has surged, leading to the recognition of blockchain as a pivotal tool for enhanced transparency. This study focuses on evaluating barriers to blockchain adoption in apparel supply chains, with a specific emphasis on sourcing and procurement. Collaborating with industry experts in Sri Lanka, the research aims to address critical gaps in information flow. The study employed a methodology consisting of two distinct steps, incorporating a background study and Interpretative Structural Modeling (ISM). Data analysis involves identifying barriers, developing ISM-based hierarchy models, and conducting MICMAC analysis. The study reveals key challenges, such as lack of expertise and underdeveloped technology to adopt blockchain emphasizing the need for strategic planning to address these obstacles and facilitate successful blockchain implementation. This research contributes to bridging gaps in blockchain adoption within the apparel supply chain, providing practical insights for industry stakeholders and decision-makers. Future research should validate identified barriers and develop strategies for effective blockchain implementation.

The Influence of the Implementation of Trade Facilitation systems on the Time Required for Creating Delivery Orders: A Case Study of Tema Port

This study evaluated the impact of Ghana’s Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS), implemented within the National Single Window initiative, on the efficiency of issuing Delivery Orders (DO) at Tema Port. Filling a gap in the existing literature, the research employed a quantitative approach to assess a specific time-related aspect of the cargo clearance process. Employing an Independent t-test on a dataset spanning 2026 Delivery Orders (924 pre-ICUMS and 1102 post-ICUMS) from July 2020 to July 2023, the study investigated ICUMS’s effectiveness in reducing DO issuance time. Results indicate a noteworthy decrease in average DO issuance time, from 11 days pre-implementation to approximately 9 days post-implementation, a reduction validated by statistical analysis through the independent t-test. In light of these findings, the study recommends ongoing refinement of the implementation, reinforcement of trade facilitation measures, and the adoption of best practices from successful global ports. Continuous stakeholder training and regular assessments of ICUMS performance are also endorsed. The study’s implications support the theoretical framework for Single Window systems and carry significant policy implications, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to streamline trade facilitation processes driven by Information Technology. Practically, the results serve as a management tool for stakeholders, highlighting areas for targeted interventions to reduce DO issuance times. Methodologically, this research contributes by applying robust statistical analysis to a specific component within the Time Release Study framework, offering a nuanced understanding of trade facilitation systems’ effectiveness in improving cargo clearance processes.

In order to improve the efficiency of warehouse outbound delivery and avoid local congestion of AGVs, this paper considers both strategies of AGVs path optimization and tasks balancing in the warehouse. In this paper, the A * algorithm is improved. Different estimation functions are used in different areas to more accurately depict the distance relationship between each point pair, and efficiently calculate the shortest feasible path from each storage location to each picking station. At the same time, the outbound tasks are planned reasonably. By establishing a 0-1 integer programming model and using Gurobi to solve it, tasks are allocated regularly to each picking station in the warehouse to maintain the workload balance among the picking areas. The experimental results show that the above strategies reduce the maximum working time of each picking area from 1793t seconds to 1511t seconds, and effectively reduce the total mileage of AGVs and the probability of AGV local congestion. © 2023 SPIE.

In manufacturing, every minute a process is stopped to carry out changeover is one less minute of productive time. Therefore, reducing changeover time is a golden opportunity to unlock more productive time. Changeover time reduction increases operational efficiency for production and reduces waste. This research aims to improve production planning by applying the sequence wheel method to repetitive production. The focus is to find a new pattern by writing an algorithm in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) on Microsoft Excel and propose a standard changeover color sequence wheel. In the analysis, two production conditions were set. First, loading process time was calculation only for the first job, loading times of the following processes were omitted. Second, the mixing process time was not included if two consecutive jobs with the same color were produced. This process consisted of eight jobs, and each work had eight steps. The analysis results found that a new pattern with two proposed conditions could reduce total changeover time by 22.22 percent, and the sequence should start from light to dark color with package sizes consideration.

In Thailand's public healthcare system, public hospitals would act as supporter and medical supplies distributor for health facilities in their district forming primary care network system. Normally, health facility personnel would make an empty trip to hospital to pick up supplies, and drive truck with low cube utilization back to facility. To improve aforementioned medical supplies distribution in primary care network, a combination of pre-determined package sizes and Large Neighborhood Search (LNS) approach for medical supplies vehicle routing problem is proposed. The pre-determined package sizes are done using frequency distribution method. Comparing current practice with proposed approach, the annual transportation cost is reduced by 44.97 percent and the average cube utilization is 84.19 percent.

One of the important part in the modern production industry is electronic parts. The objective of this study was using statistical methods to increasing the efficiency of cutting tools in electronic parts production process. From this aforementioned process, it was found that the cost of precision boring blade (S2F0409R05F35R10PTD) was dramatically decrease from 457 THB to 315 THB. Nevertheless, this research be able to maintain the process ability (Cpk) at the complacence level of the customer (more than 1.5) and cut the production cost from 2,104,739 THB per year to 1,598,857 THB per year (5 months payback period). The proposed statistical methods can be used with other electronic parts of production industries worldwide.

Hyperconnected Megacity Parcel logistics: Parcel Routing and Containerized Consolidation

In high-speed hyperconnected parcel logistics, intermediate hubs play a critical role in reaching economies of scale through consolidating disperse flows of goods. However, resorting small-size parcels at every hub can increase hubs’ workload and parcels’ total travel time. Such resorting can be reduced by smart dynamic containerized consolidation, encapsulating together parcels sharing service level and a subsequent destination. In this study, we introduce an optimization model enabling to assess the impact of such consolidation in reducing the expected total pickup-to-delivery times over a parcel logistic network. We provide empirical results for a synthetic urban environment, contrasting consolidation performance over different network structures and demand patterns. Based on the results from the synthetic network experiments, we also assess the containerization potentials in a real-world logistic network instance. © 2021, CC BY.

The Physical Internet (PI) puts high emphasis on enabling logistics to reliably perform at the speed mandated by and promised to customers, and to do so efficiently and sustainably. To do so, goods to be moved are encapsulated in modular containers and these are flowed from hub to hub in relay mode. At each hub, PI enables fast and efficient dynamic consolidation of sets of containers to be shipped together to next hubs. Each consolidated set is assigned to an appropriate vehicle so to enact the targeted transport. In this paper, we address the case where transportation service providers are available to provide vehicles and trailers of distinct dimensions on demand according to openly agreed and/or contracted terms. We describe the essence of such terms, notably relative to expected frequency distribution of transport requests, and expectations about time between request and arrival at hub. In such a context, we introduce rigorous generic protocols that can be applied at each hub so as to dynamically generate consolidation sets of modular containers and requests for on-demand transportation services, in an efficient, resilient, and sustainable way ensuring reliable pickup and delivery within the promised time windows. We demonstrate the performance of such protocols using a simulation-based experiment for a national intercity express parcel logistic network. We finally provide conclusive remarks and promising avenues for field implementation and further research. © 2021, CC BY.

This study aims to determine the extent to which crowd-shipping delivery can reduce shipping costs. An extension of the classic Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP) is studied to model the possibility of performing deliveries using private citizen. A probabilistic model is incorporated to estimate the likelihood of finding a crowd-shipper for a given compensation. The model is applied to a logistics company based in Bandung, Indonesia. Results indicate significant advantages in using crowd-shipper as opposed to the traditional method. Specifically, costs can be reduced by about 20% and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions can be reduced by 21% when a base scenario price sensitivity is considered. Overall, the case study suggests potential economic and environmental benefits relying on Occasional Couriers (OC's).
