Factors Affecting Decision to Select Government R&D Support Projects for SMEs

Nowadays, Thailand industry is still lacking technological and scientific application for making competitive capacity and value-added products. For this reason, the government needs to initiate special projects for supporting industrial research and development (R&D). In order to gain the highest benefit of the government budget, the process of selecting projects to be supported is considered important since it has an effect on the future prosperity of the country. Multiple evaluation factors, which may be conflicted by nature, are required for selecting suitable projects among several alternatives. The objective of this research is to study the factors that should be used in appraising the government R&D support projects for SMEs. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is applied to determine 3 main factors which consist of 9 sub-factors used for selecting suitable projects in order to receive funding from the government. The result shows that the important weight of the 3 main factors; entrepreneur, researcher, and project details are 0.565, 0.235, and 0.200 respectively.

Nowadays companies are required to work more productive yet maintain good quality. To increase productivity, company needs a conducive effort to optimize the work system. supply chain management (SCM) is one form of competitive advantages that is applied to every industrial system. There are many factors which can influence the supply chain performance (SCF).Ergonomics is deemed to be one of significant drivers for SCF. This paper proposes and discusses the concepts related to ergonomics which is considered as macro ergonomics in supply chain system. SCM has been seen as macro ergonomics concerning on organization, people, technology, information and resources. This paper shows the importance of ergonomics at the inbound logistics (includes receiving, storing, inventory control and internal distribution management) and outbound logistics (the activites to get the finished product to customer) which are regarded as the critical supply chain activities. A scientific literature review on ergonomics as a critical determinant for SCF is discussed and provided as a theoretical contribution for further research related to the role of ergonomic to support supply chain performance.

Public health problem is associated to eating habits, such as higher consumption of fast food and popular snakes. Excessive consumption of these foods can cause health problems such as obesity due to its high energy densities. These foods have become commonplace in world culture for their low price and the easy-to-eat foods mass production. It is known that fruits are essential in balanced diets and an important part of the nutrition strategies programs by contribute to a healthy life. Some works has shown a consumer's global trend demand for product and the life quality and between fresh food and healthy. The Brazil are the third in the word in fruit supply chain and one of the biggest problems facing is fruit loss. It is estimated that mean of fruits losses occurs in households. The present study aimed to determine Brazilian preference towards fruit and the Brazilian consumer behavior influence which might contribute to losses during consumption stage. We explored the literature and created a survey with 275 participants, 46% of men and 53% of women, to identify the perception of Brazilian consumers that may contribute to fruit loss. The results shown the consumer preferences in buying mature fruits is associated with habits and can contribute to food losses and waste, because according best practice to fruit preservation is recommended that the majority types of mellow fruits should be stored in refrigerator and some of them should be consume as soon as possible. © ILS 2018 - Information systems, logistics and supply chain, Proceedings. Food Losses and wastes can become a major social and economic problem if not managed properly. Over the last decades, some research has focused on the waste and loss of fruits and vegetables due to the population growth, which makes essential to find out ways to reduce these wastes and losses. However, few studies dealt with the amount of fruit and vegetables that are wasted by consumers. The purpose of this study is to identify the main causes that affect the generation of wastes in household's consumer behavior. A structured survey was applied to 275 Brazilian consumers, where 53% were female and 47% male, restricted a region of Brazil to identify these causes. The results show that a high education level does not imply a low food waste. Moreover, it indicates that, despite the low volume waste by family, the sum of these wastes represents a huge volume affecting logistics and supply chain management, waste disposal areas and environmental pollution. © ILS 2018 - Information systems, logistics and supply chain, Proceedings. 作者： Narasimhan Ravichandran Sundaravalli Narayanaswami has been a faculty member in the Production and Quantitative Methods Area of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) since 1980. He has also served as the director of The Indian Institute of Management Indore. He is an MSc in Maths from Annamalai University and holds a PhD from Indian Institute of Technology Madras. His teaching and research interests include applied probability business process re-engineering competitive strategy decision analysis entrepreneurship industry analysis and corporate strategy information technology for competitive advantage logistics and supply chain management operations management operations strategy quantitative methods in management and simulation. He has held several short-term visiting positions in many European Universities. He has edited and co-authored many books published in several in peer-reviewed journals. e-mail: is a faculty member of the Public Systems Group at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA). She has a PhD in industrial engineering and operations research from IIT Bombay. Her teaching interests are in intelligent transportation systems operations research in public systems operations management urban transportation in addition to management information systems and knowledge management. Most of her research in the past and present are in transportation operations and knowledge management that involve applications of ICT and OR tools in real-life problems of large impact. Dr Sundaravalli started her career in IT services marketing and she soon moved to a production profile in an electronics equipment manufacturing industry. Her academic career began later and she has taught at various programs in Mumbai University and at institutes under the UAE Federal education ministry in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The current distribution systems are mainly dedicated to a single business that owns or contracts a number of distribution centers. The Physical Internet introduces hyperconnected distribution systems that are built upon the exploitation of open distribution centers. The openness here refers to using the distribution space and technologies of enterprises offering their services on the market. This paper aims to investigate the economic performance gain at the strategic level by exploiting the hyperconnected distribution system compared to dedicated system. To this end, the distribution-related economic activities of several business samples are modeled by designing their distribution network. Offering several market service scenarios, the distribution network of each business is created for each distribution system. The findings of our investigation demonstrate a highly significant financial gain by exploiting the hyperconnected distribution system, particularly in fast response time scenarios.

A game theoretic model for coordination of single manufacturer and multiple suppliers with quality variations under uncertain demands

In this paper, a game theoretic model for supply chain coordination problem is studied. The supply chain coordination problem involves one manufacturer and multi-suppliers with quality variations under demand uncertainty. The number of defective parts purchased from suppliers is unknown to the manufacturer while each supplier can determine the standard deviation of defective items. The relationship between the manufacturer and the suppliers is modelled by a non-cooperative game. The non-cooperative game model is analysed by the Stackelberg equilibrium where the manufacturer is regarded as a leader and the suppliers as followers. By deriving suppliers’ best response functions, the Stackelberg equilibrium under uncertainties is established. Sensitivity analysis is conducted to investigate the features of the proposed models with cost parameters. The results validate the derived managerial insights derived for the proposed model. © 2015, © 2015 Taylor & Francis.

This paper proposes a solution algorithm for solving the stochastic network interdiction problem (SNIP). The problem is formulated as a two-stage stochastic integer program with an objective to minimize the expected maximum flow through the network, given that the success of interdicting an arc on the work is a Bernoulli random variable. The first-stage solution is obtained by using simulated annealing heuristic algorithm. In the second-stage problem, each scenario is a maximum network flow problem which is solved using the Ford-Fulkerson algorithm. The results show that our solution values of test instances are close to optimal. This is verified with a previous study in the literature that solved the same exact test instances and provided lower and upper bounds to their solutions. Furthermore, our average solution time is significantly lower.

Finite Capacity Scheduling of Make-Pack Production: Case Study of Adhesive Factory

This paper developed a Finite Capacity Scheduling (FCS) system for make-pack production based on a real case of an adhesive factory. The FCS determines production quantity of each machine to conform with resource capacities and due date of customer orders while minimizes related total cost. The total cost includes total production, inventory, and cleaning cost. A Mixed Integer Linear programming (MILP) model is formulated and solved by LINGO software. The computational time is very long since the model has a lot of integer variables. Thus, the model is solved for a reasonable time and the best but not optimal solution is reported with the lower bound. This paper tries fixed horizon and rolling horizon scheduling methods. The fixed horizon plans for an entire horizon of 30 days. The rolling horizon plans for a sub-horizon of 10, 15, and 17 days. An overlapping of sub-horizons is applied to reduce end-of-horizon effect. Three scenarios (high, normal, and low) of demands are considered. The fixed horizon method is applied first to all scenarios of demand. If the best solution is far away from the lower bound, the rolling horizon method is applied. The results indicated that the rolling horizon method may significantly reduce the total cost with the same computational time. Moreover, the rolling horizon method is more applicable for a dynamic situation where customers frequently change orders. The proposed MILP model can generate reasonable solutions and they are useful for scheduling decision of make- pack production.
