In this study, the authors focused on children from.2-8 years of age and asked the sim.le question: what do engineers do? The num.er one response was: “I don’t know”, the num.er two response was “they drive a train.” While children are very fam.liar with professionals such as doctors, teachers, nurses, firefighters and policem.n, they are rarely introduced to engineers. With this m.tivation, the authors developed a novel children’s book on engineering: engineering Elephants. This book is an outreach tool that introduces children to the dynam.c world of engineering design through roller coasters, fireworks, and a plethora of other exciting adventures. The book teaches children about relevant topics such as nanotechnology, renewable energy, and prosthetics by engaging them.through an interactive journey of an elephant and his questioning of the world around him. The text was strategically developed using the language of science (asking questions) and introducing vocabulary relevant to science and m.th using a lyrical pattern. This presentation will highlight the developm.nt of this book as an instructional aid but also detail the response of various age groups to engineering activities presented as a com.anion to this book. In particular, an elem.ntary school district in West Texas designed a 4-5th grade 3-week sum.er school curriculum.around this book. Results from.this study will have an im.act on future generations by inspiring them.to consider the exciting profession of engineering at an early age.

We report the fabrication and characterization of a m.crostrip patch antenna com.osed entirely out of m.lti-walled carbon nanotubes on a silicon substrate. The antenna showed excellent response in the X-band, for which it was designed. In addition, an observed left-shift resonance effect points towards significant potential for m.niaturization. The antenna also showed very prom.sing reliability under different operating conditions. Such antennas m.y therefore have significant prom.se for system.on-chip, space application, and other specialized applications.

This paper considers the problem.of decision m.king by a Judge in case of m.rder cases. The paper describes the construction of decision system.to be used by a Judge about to pass sentence in a m.rder case. The system.is an Analogy m.king from.exam.les. In law, analogy is used to resolve issues on which there is no previous authority. Analogies are drawn from.precedent cases. The Judge finds that the facts of another case are sim.lar to the one at hand to an extent that the analogous application of the rule established in the previous case is justified. In this paper a neural network is described for judgm.nt in m.rder cases. The exam.les dem.nstrate how to m.del legal system.analogous to recent decisions, first by learning a system.with court decisions, and second, by analyzing, m.deling and testing the decision m.king neural network.

Biom.tric devices provide secure m.chanism.towards gaining access. One of the Biom.tric features is Face and the system.im.lem.nted is Face Recognition system. The Classical Face Recognition System.is im.lem.nted with Principal Com.onent Analysis and is successful. PCA is a linear m.thod of extracting the features in a lower dim.nsion space and is severely affected by the Pose and surrounding illum.nation variation. To im.lem.nt effective face recognition system. pose variation is to be considered and the problem.is well addressed with Kernel PCA (nonlinear PCA). KPCA extracts features in a higher dim.nsion space, there by the system.is rugged to pose variation. The illum.nation variation is accounted for capture range of the front end device and its surrounding and is not dealt in KPCA. In this work Singular Value Decom.osition is used to deal with surrounding illum.nation and wavelets are em.loyed to aid the KPCA in capturing the m.lti Scale Features there by m.king the System.robust to pose and illum.nation variation. To show the perform.nce, the proposed m.thod is tested on YaleB, ORL Databases. The results obtained show the im.act of the m.thod and is com.ared with PCA, KPCA.

The aim.of this paper is focus discovering frequent patterns in Web log data and to obtain inform.tion about the navigational behavior of the users. Frequent pattern m.ning is researched area in the area of data m.ning. Using frequent pattern discovery m.thods in Web log data can result into good practices. Discovering hidden inform.tion from.Web log data is called Web usage m.ning. The use of advertising purposes in creating dynam.c user profiles etc. In this paper three pattern m.ning approaches are investigated from.the Web usage m.ning point of view. The different patterns in Web log m.ning are page sets, page sequences and page graphs.

Im.ge processing operations can be categorized into three m.jor categories: im.ge enhancem.nt, im.ge com.ression and im.ge restoration. The objective of im.ge enhancem.nt is to im.rove the insight of the inform.tion in im.ges for hum.n viewing or to be used as a preprocessing tool for other im.ge processing techniques. Filtering techniques play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of an im.ge. This article explores the possibility of using an Artificial Neural Network for im.ge noise classification followed by the suitable filter classification. Probabilistic Neural Network strikes a superior perform.nce in identifying the noise as well as the suitable filter for the rem.val of a specific type of noise.
