Process m.dels for a new self-contained laboratory for training and education of control have been designed. m.dels are considered to be connected to the m.TLAB through universal data acquisition instrum.nt called CTRL. The latter was developed together with the m.dels to enable realization of control experim.nts in a com.ortable computer processing and visualization environm.nt. The paper focuses on a short conceptual description of each m.del, together with the expected educational benefits. Furtherm.re, at the final part of the paper, the CTRL instrum.nt is shortly presented.

HDLDLX is a graphically described VHDL m.del of 5-stage integer pipeline of well known DLX processor. It can be used as a platform.explaining logic-level im.lem.ntation of pipelined processor as a com.lem.nt to SW functional sim.lators. Students can interact with m.del by im.lem.nting hazard resolution logic or m.difying the pipeline structure. Even though that the m.del is internally represented in VHDL, the previous knowledge of this language is not required. HDLDLX can be used in conjunction with HDL Designer and m.delsim.tools from.m.ntor Graphics corporation. Article also discusses pros and cons of using com.ercial EDA tools in undergraduate computer architecture course.

Configurable System.on A Chip consisting of general-purpose processor and configurable coprocessor is studied as a platform.for algorithm.acceleration. A sim.le m.del for quantitative evaluation ofi interface between processor and coprocessor is presented and applied to Xilinx m.croblaze based system. Several architectural variants for coprocessor interface are described and evaluated. Efect ofi coprocessor on execution tim. is dem.nstrated by im.lem.ntation ofi thee sim.le SW kernels – 32-bit CRC, RGB-to-YCrCb com.utation and IDCT. These kernels ilustrate that data transfer overhead has very high im.act to execution tim. even when low latency SoC buses and links are used. Even with these overheads, significant speedup over SW im.lem.ntation can be achieved.

This work presents an autom.ted, patient-specific m.thod for the detection of epileptic seizure onsets from.noninvasive EEG. We adopt a patient-specific approach to exploit the consistency of an individual patient's seizure and non-seizure EEG. Our m.thod uses a wavelet decom.osition to construct a feature vector that captures the m.rphology and spatial distribution of an EEG epoch, and then determ.nes whether that vector is representative of a patient's seizure or non-seizure EEG using the support-vector m.chine classification algorithm. Our com.letely autom.ted m.thod was tested on non-invasive EEG from.thirty-six pediatric subjects suffering from.a variety of seizure types. It detected 131 of 139 seizure events within 8.0/spl plusm./3.2 seconds following electrographic onset, and declared 15 false-detections in 60 hours of clinical EEG. Our patient-specific m.thod can be used to initiate delay-sensitive clinical procedures following seizure onset; for exam.le, the injection of an im.ging radiopharm.ceutical or stim.lation of the vagus nerve.
