The pressure-based approach coupled with a m.sh adaptation m.thod is em.loyed to better capture the details of flow physics for tim. dependent problem. by optim.zing com.utational cost with respect to accuracy. The m.sh adaptation for locally refining and coarsening hybrid unstructured grid is based on hanging node approach. The tim. dependent calculations is further enhanced by virtue of parallel com.uting which is the m.st powerful for large scale intensive com.utation at the present tim.. The proposed m.thod is validated by com.arison with experim.ntal results of low Reynolds num.er flow over a shedding circular cylinder.

We study m.ltifiber optical networks with wavelength division m.ltiplexing (WDm.. Assum.ng that the lightpaths use the sam. wavelength from.source to destination, we extend the definition of the well-known wavelength assignm.nt problem.(WAP), to the case where there are k fibers per link, and w wavelengths per fiber are available: This generalization is called the (k, /spl om.ga/)-WAP. We develop a new m.del for the (k, /spl om.ga/)-WAP, based on conflict hypergraphs: conflict hypergraphs m.re accurately capture the lightpath interdependencies, generalizing the conflict graphs used for single-fiber networks. By relating the (k, /spl om.ga/)-WAP with the hypergraph coloring problem. we prove that the form.r is NP-com.lete, and present further results with respect to the com.lexity of that problem. We consider the two natural optim.zation problem. that arise from.the (k, w)-WAP: the problem.of m.nim.zing k given w, and that of m.nim.zing w given k. We develop and analyze the practical perform.nces of two m.thodologies based on hypergraph coloring, one for each of the two optim.zation problem., on existing backbone networks in Europe and in the USA. The first m.thodology relies on two heuristics based on a random.zed approxim.tion algorithm.and the second consists on an integer program.ing form.lation.
