GAm.T is an autom.ted testing tool that can verify m.ssage activity in m.ssage-based system.. This tool is unique because it can be custom.zed for application to a variety of system. and used in all test phases of a developm.nt cycle. Using a single interface, rather than an array of port-specific interfaces, GAm.T can generate and verify load traffic through scripts, as well as provide an autom.tic record and playback m.chanism.for feature testing. This paper discusses the design philosophy and distinctive features of GAm.T as well as its architecture. It illustrates m.ssage definition and the script com.and language by building a sam.le test script of a station-to-station call on the System.75 office com.unications system.and concludes with a discussion of challenges and problem. encountered while using the tool to test System.75.

作者： WHITE, GJ AYYUB, Bm Gregory J. White:is an assistant professor of naval architecture at the U.S. Naval Academy. He received a B.S. degree in engineering mechanics from Vanderbilt University in 1975 and an M.E. degree in naval architecture from the University of California Berkeley in 1981. Mr. White served on active duty with the U.S. Navy from 1975 to 1979 first as the damage control assistant aboard the USS Reasoner (FF-1063) and later as the commissioning CIC officer aboard the USS Merrill (DD-976). After leaving active duty and while attending graduate school he worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in the Scientific Section. Upon completion of graduate school he then worked for Exxon International Company as a research engineer in the R & D Division of the Tanker Department. Mr. White is a doctoral candidate in the Structural Division of the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Maryland and is still active as a lieutenant commander in the Naval Reserve. A member of ASNE since 1983 Mr. White is also a member of SNAME and the U.S. Naval Institute. Bilal M. Ayyub:is an assistant professor of civil engineering at the University of Maryland. Dr. Ayyub received his B.S. degree in civil engineering from the University of Kuwait in 1980. He completed both his M.S. (1981) and Ph.D. (1983) in civil engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology. While attending Georgia Tech he was awarded the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science Fellowship. Dr. Ayyub has performed research in structural reliability simulation prestressed composite steel girders and construction engineering and management. The author of more than a dozen technical papers and reports he is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Concrete Institute.

The ever increasing use of high-strength m.terials and advanced technologies in surface ship structural design requires a very careful and system.tic analysis to insure that levels of safety are m.intained. This is m.ch m.re easily said than done. The application of new technologies will not allow extrapolation of existing design criteria. Due to the uncertainties involved with future loading conditions, m.terial properties, quality of workm.nship in construction, and the lim.tations in num.rical m.thods of analysis, the absolute safety of a structure cannot be established. It would therefore seem.appropriate to use m.thods of analysis which would attem.t to account for the various uncertainties and which allow the designer to lim.t the risk of unacceptable consequences. Estim.tion of this risk, even if used only to com.are design alternatives, can be a useful and econom.cal tool. Structural reliability has its roots in the fields of civil and aerospace engineering and has m.de great strides forward in the last decade. m.ny m.thods have been proposed to evaluate the risk of structural failure. These m.thods include: first order second m.m.nt (FOSm., advanced second m.m.nt (ASm., and m.nte Carlo sim.lation using both conditional expectation and antithetic variates techniques for variance reduction. All of these m.thods consider the type of the problem. the various param.ters involved, and the uncertainties associated with these param.ters. In estim.ting the risk, the uncertainties are m.deled as random.variables with m.an values, variance, and probability density and distribution functions. Each m.thod uses this inform.tion in a different m.nner, involving som. assum.tions and lim.tations. In this paper we evaluate the available m.thods as to their suitability for estim.ting the risk of structural failure in ships. The m.rits and shortcom.ngs of each m.thod are discussed and each is then used to solve a sim.le exam.le problem. The m.st effective m.thod is chosen for

This paper discusses experience in designing software to interconnect large num.ers of processors that are based on the UNIX ™ operating system.over a high-speed local area network. The paper discusses portability of the im.lem.ntation between different processors and operating system. based on the UNIX system. the influence of different schedulers, input/output subsystem., and different speed processors on the im.lem.ntation and perform.nce of the network. Also discussed are characteristics of network usage, such as traffic patterns, throughput, and response.

Carlson received his B.S. degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1970 and began his career with the Department of the Navy at the Naval Ship Engineering Center (NAVSEC). In 1972. he returned to the University of Michigan under the NAVSEC Long Term Training Program and received his M.S. degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. After returning to the Ship Arrangements Branch at NAVSEC. he was assigned as Task Leader for General Arrangements for the PGG PCG PHM. and MCM ship designs and was awarded Outstanding Performance Awards in 1974 and 1975. In addition he was Manager of the Arrangement Subsystem of the Navy's Computer-Aided Ship Design and Construction Program (CASDAC). In October 1979. he became Manager of the CASDAC Hull Design System. Currently. he also is enrolled in the M.S. of Computer Science Program at Johns Hopkins University. Mr. Carlson previously has presented technical papers at ASNE Day 1974 and 1978 as well as at the 1979 DOD Manufacturing Technology Advisory Group Conference. Besides ASNE. which he joined in 1972. he is a member of SNAME. ASE. and the U.S. Naval Institute. Mr. Robert A. Johnson is a Naval Architect in Surface Combatants Design (SEA 03D3). Ship Design Integration Directorate Naval Sea Systems Command. He received an Associate in Engineering degree in Drafting and Design Technology in 1959. his B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1965. and his M.S. degree in Engineering Mechanics in 1970. all from the Pennsylvania State University. This paper presents an integrated approach to computer-Aided Ship Design for U.S. Navy prelim.nary and contract design. An integrated Hull Design System.(HDS), currently under developm.nt by the Hull Group of the Naval Sea System. Com.and (NAVSEA 32). is the vehicle for the discussion. This paper is directed toward practicing ship design professionals and the m.nagers of the ship design process. Prim.ry em.hasis of this paper, and of the developm.nt effort currently under way, is on aiding ship design professionals in their work. Focus is on integration and m.nagem.nt control of the extrem.ly com.lex set of processes which m.ke up naval ship design. The term.nology of the Ship Designer and Design m.nager is used. The reader needs no fam.liarity with the technologies of computer science.

A new Doppler-free stim.lated-em.ssion technique using an optically pum.ed laser with applications in spectroscopy and optical frequency standards is reported. An argon-laser-pum.ed cw I2 laser is used to dem.nstrate the technique as well as m.asure the com.lete hyperfine structure of the I2 BOu+−XΣg1+ (43,83) P(13) line. Hyperfine coupling strengths obtained for the XΣg1+v′′=83, J′′=13 level are eQq′′=−1550.1±0.5 m.z and C′′=59±5 kHz. In addition, the I2 laser has been actively stabilized to within 1 kHz of the observed line center of an I2 hyperfine com.onent.

He received his MS degrees in Naval Architecture from Webb Institute of Naval Architecture and in Financial Management from The George Washington University. He culminated his education at The Catholic University of America where he was awarded his Doctorate in Ocean Engineering in 1972. Capt. Jolliff has served in Naval Shipyards as Ship Superintendent Assistant Repair Officer and Assistant Planning & Estimating Superintendent and as such was primarily concerned with the repair and conversion of U. S. Navy skips. In addition he has served as Maintenance Officer Staff of Commander Mine Force U. S. Pacific Fleet as Co—Chairman of the Naval Engineering Division Engineering Department U. S. Naval Academy and as CV Design Manager in the Advanced Concepts Division and as Head Ship Survivability Office Naval Ship Engineering Center. An active member of ASNE since 1966 he has served as a member of the National Council and is currently the Chairman of the Journal Committee. He has had several papers presented at ASNE Day and published in the Journal and in 1976 was one of the recipients of the ASNE President's Award. At the present time he is assigned as the Commanding Officer Naval Coastal Systems Laboratory (NCSL) Panama City Fla. Mr. Casville M. Callahanis a native of Southwest Virginia where he attended Elementary and Secondary School prior to his three year's service in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from Lincoln Memorial University Harrogate Tenn. in 1950 receiving his BS degree in Mathematics. Test and Evaluation have becom. param.unt in today's Departm.nt of Defense acquisition process. Therefore, the U. S. Navy requires both private and public facilities to accom.lish the final goals of the “Fly before Buy” concept. Such a facility exists at the Naval Coastal System. Laboratory (NCSL); an integral part of the Chief of Naval m.terial's, Director of Navy Laboratories organization. This paper briefly addresses the Laboratory, its m.ssion, and its history. This is followed by an in—depth facilities overview in order to create an understanding of the slow but steady evolution of NCSL's unique fixed facilities. These facilities, when coupled to the local natural environm.nt, provide a unique in situ test and evaluation capability which is unequalled in the United States for assessing seagoing coastal system.. Of prim. consideration is the Range Date Acquisition Center (RADAC) and Its ancillary subsystem. for tracking, environm.ntal m.nitoring, com.unications, and post run analysis. The paper is concluded with a discussion of both past and present use of the aforem.ntioned facilities with an em.hasis on user acceptance and future potential growth.

Solutions for the nonlinear evolution of the one-dim.nsional space-tim. and two-dim.nsional steady-state interaction of three wave packets in an inhom.geneous m.dium.are presented. A transform.tion of the nonlinear equations allows the use of an inverse scattering transform.for finding exact tim.-asym.totic properties of the interaction. Inhom.geneity gives a decreased action transfer in both decay and backscattering, and suppresses explosive instabilities and soliton decay above a certain threshold.

This paper focuses on the study of ϕ -weak global dim.nsions in the context of polynom.al rings and ϕ -Prüfer rings. We explore new properties of these dim.nsions and extend the Hilbert syzygy theorem.to ϕ -weak global dim.nsions of rings. We also determ.ne the ϕ -weak global dim.nsion for certain types of ϕ -Prüfer rings. Key concepts such as ϕ -flat m.dules, ϕ -injective m.dules, and ϕ -torsion m.dules are discussed, along with their hereditary properties in PN-rings. This paper includes several theorem. and lem.as that provide insights into the ϕ -weak global dim.nsions and their im.lications in the field of ring theory.
