Analysis of the optimal target node to reduce seizure-like discharge in networks

Network approaches have been widely accepted to guide surgical strategy and predict outcome for epilepsy *** study starts with a single oscillator to explore brain activity,using a phenomenological model capable of describing healthy and epileptic *** ictal number of seizures decreases or remains unchanged with increasing the speed of oscillator excitability and in each seizure,there is an increasing tendency for ictal duration with respect to the *** underlying reason is that the strong excitability speed is conducive to reduce transition behaviors between two attractor ***,the selection of the optimal removal node is estimated by an indicator proposed in this *** show that when the indicator is less than the threshold,removing the driving node is more possible to reduce seizures significantly,while the indicator exceeds the threshold,the epileptic node could be the removal ***,the driving node is such a potential target that stimulating it is obviously effective in suppressing seizure-like activity compared to other nodes,and the propensity of seizures can be reduced 60%with the increased stimulus *** results could provide new therapeutic ideas for epilepsy surgery and neuromodulation.

Rolling bearings constitute critical components in mechanical systems, and their effective fault diagnosis plays a vital role in ensuring operational safety and reliability. Despite substantial advancements in diagnostic methodologies, achieving high-precision, low-latency fault detection in large-scale rolling bearing datasets remains a persistent challenge. Artificial neural networks to spiking neural networks (ANN-to-SNN) conversion algorithms offer promising solutions for reducing computational costs and hardware adaptation barriers compared to conventional approaches. However, inherent information degradation during conversion processes has been demonstrated to significantly undermine model performance in terms of accuracy, stability, and interpretability. To overcome these limitations, we propose IIPooling, a novel Information-Integration biological neural mechanism-inspired Pooling module designed to enhance global structural feature extraction. The proposed framework incorporates three core neurobiological information processing principles: (1) promotion, (2) lateral inhibition, and (3) longitudinal inhibition, effectively simulating biological neuronal spiking patterns while optimally utilizing ANN activation characteristics. Additionally, we develop two adaptive learning mechanisms — Surrogate Gradient Adaptive Learning and Spiking Spatiotemporal Adaptive Learning — to implement negative feedback mechanism and adaptive parameter adjustment, thereby improving cross-conditional generalization capabilities. Comprehensive evaluations conducted on five bearing datasets (CWRU: DE/FE, PU, and Lab-collected: 6025/N205EW) demonstrate superior performance across four metrics (ACC, AUC, AUPRC, Mean-ACC). Our method achieves state-of-the-art results, notably attaining ACC values of 0.959 (CWRU-DE) and 0.861 (Lab-N205EW) in IIPooling-ST configurations, confirming its effectiveness for real-time, high-accuracy fault detection in complex operational environments. © 2025

Elastic Wave Propagation in Lattice Metamaterials with Koch Fractal

In this study,the wave propagation properties of lattice metamaterials with Koch fractal structures are investigated in terms of band structures and directional wave *** analytical models of lattice metamaterials are established using the finite element method,and the dispersion relation is solved using the Bloch’s *** band structures of the lattice metamaterials with different numbers of iterations are studied,and the group velocities at a selected frequency are calculated to analyze the directional wave propagation ***,dynamic responses of the finite structures are calculated using commercial finite element software to verify the band gaps and directional wave propagation behaviors in the lattice *** results show that multiple and low band gaps are present in the lattice materials with various geometric parameters of the Koch fractal,and the position of the lowest band gap decreases as the number of iterations *** results indicate the potential applications of lattice metamaterials with Koch fractals for vibration isolation and multi-functional design.

In this study,multi-resonator coupled metamaterials(MRCMs)with local resonators are proposed to obtain the multiple and wide band *** models of the MRCMs are established,and the boundary conditions of the unit cell are obtained with Bloch's *** effects of structural parameters,including the mass of the resonator and the spring stiffness,on the distributions of the band gaps are ***,the frequency domain responses and the time domain responses are calculated for analyzing the structural vibration characteristics and the effects of damping on structural *** results show that the frequency domain response can accurately express the distributions of the band gaps of the MRCMs,and we can increase the number and the width of the band gaps by using the MRCMs for the superior vibration suppression capability.

It is shown that we can control spatiotemporal chaos in the Frenkel-Kontorova(FK)model by a model-free control method based on reinforcement *** method uses Q-learning to find optimal control strategies based on the reward feedback from the environment that maximizes its *** optimal control strategies are recorded in a Q-table and then employed to implement *** advantage of the method is that it does not require an explicit knowledge of the system,target states,and unstable periodic *** that we need is the parameters that we are trying to control and an unknown simulation model that represents the interactive *** control the FK model,we employ the perturbation policy on two different kinds of parameters,i.e.,the pendulum lengths and the phase *** show that both of the two perturbation techniques,i.e.,changing the lengths and changing their phase angles,can suppress chaos in the system and make it create the periodic *** form of patterns depends on the initial values of the angular displacements and *** particular,we show that the pinning control strategy,which only changes a small number of lengths or phase angles,can be put into effect.

Pattern transition and regulation in a subthalamopallidal network under electromagnetic effect

Although the significant roles of magnetic induction and electromagnetic radiation in the neural system have been widely studied,their influence on Parkinson’s disease(PD)has yet to be well *** virtue of the magnetic flux variable,this paper studies the transition of firing patterns induced by magnetic induction and the regulation effect of external magnetic radiation on the firing activities of the subthalamopallidal network in basal *** find:(i)The network reproduces five typical waveforms corresponding to the severity of symptoms:weak cluster,episodic,continuous cluster,episodic,and continuous wave.(ii)Magnetic induction is a double-edged sword for the treatment of *** the increase of magnetic coefficient may lead the physiological firing activity to transfer to pathological firing activity,it also can regulate the pathological intensity firing activity with excessiveβ-band power transferring to the physiological firing pattern with weakβ-band power.(iii)External magnetic radiation could inhibit continuous tremulous firing andβ-band power of subthalamic nucleus(STN),which means the severity of symptoms ***,the bi-parameter plane of the regulation region shows that a short pulse period of magnetic radiation and a medium level of pulse percentage can well regulate pathological *** work helps to understand the firing activity of the subthalamopallidal network under electromagnetic *** may also provide insights into the mechanisms behind the electromagnetic therapy of PD-related firing activity.

Effects of mechanical boundary conditions on thermal shock resistance of ultra-high temperature ceramics

The effects of mechanical boundary conditions, often encountered in thermalstructural engineering, on the thermal shock resistance（TSR） of ultra-high temperature ceramics（UHTCs） are studied by investigating the TSR of a UHTC plate with various types of constraints under the first, second, and third type of thermal boundary conditions. The TSR of UHTCs is strongly dependent on the heat transfer modes and severity of the thermal environments. Constraining the displacement of the lower surface in the thickness direction can significantly decrease the TSR of the UHTC plate, which is subject to the thermal shock at the upper surface. In contrast, the TSR of the UHTC plate with simply supported edges or clamped edges around the lower surface is much better.

An accurate and straightforward symplectic method is presented for the fracture analysis of fractional two-dimensional(2D)viscoelastic *** fractional Kelvin-Zener constitutive model is used to describe the time-dependent behavior of viscoelastic *** the framework of symplectic elasticity,the governing equations in the Hamiltonian form for the frequency domain(s-domain)can be directly and rigorously *** the s-domain,the analytical solutions of the displacement and stress fields are constructed by superposing the symplectic eigensolutions without any trial function,and the explicit expressions of the intensity factors and J-integral are derived *** studies are provided to validate the accuracy and effectiveness of the present solutions.A detailed analysis is made to reveal the effects of viscoelastic parameters and applied loads on the intensity factors and J-integral.
