A Comprehensive Study of Soliton Pulse Propagation Using Modified Differential Transform Methods

In this article, a modified version of the Differential Transform Method (DTM) is employed to examine soliton pulse propagation in a weakly non-local parabolic law medium and wave propagation in optical fibers. This semi-analytic method has the advantage of overcoming the obstacle of the hardest nonlinear terms and is used to explain the origin of the bright and dark soliton solutions through the Schrödinger equation in its non-local form and the Radhakrishnan-Kundu-Laksmannan (RKL) equation. Numerical examples demonstrate the effectiveness of this method.

Ferula hermonis Plant Extract as Safe Corrosion Inhibitor for Zinc in Hydrochloric Acid Solution

The efficiency of Ferula hermonis plant extract, as inhibitor for zinc (Zn) corrosion in a 1 M HCl solution, has been tested by mass loss (ML), electrochemical measurements (potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and electrochemical frequency modulation (EFM) procedures), in addition to surface examination analysis. The outcomes indicated that F. hermonis extract showed good efficiency to Zn corrosion, and displayed high inhibition efficiencies. The maximum inhibition efficiency approached 90.6% at 300 ppm extract. The adsorption isotherm of extract on the Zn surface was found to follow Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Thermodynamic parameters were determined and discussed. Also, the inhibition efficiency (%IE) was found to increase as the concentration of extract increases, and depressed as the temperature rises. The morphology of the surface of uninhibited and inhibited Zn was examined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersion spectroscopy (EDX) and ultraviolet–visible spectroscopic (UV). Biological effect of the extract was studied. The results indicated that there is a protective film formed by extract on the Zn surface that protects it from dissolution in the acid media. The outcomes of the applied chemical and electrochemical techniques are in good agreement. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Constructing sustainable cities for the future usually encounters some challenges such as reducing the environmental footprint through using eco-friendly materials. Coarse recycled aggregate retrieved from demolished concrete structures is considered one of the eco-friendly building materials. This study aims to investigate the impact of strengthened recycled aggregate with pozzolan slurry on the different properties of concrete. Three various groups of pozzolan slurries; silica fume with fly ash, cement with fly ash, and nano-silica are used to strengthen the inferior properties of recycled aggregate. Findings showed that the proposed treatment method efficiently improved the quality of recycled aggregate. Also, this method achieved eco-friendly concrete with preferable mechanical behavior and greater resistivity against chloride diffusion. The wastage of compressive strength was 10–20%, flexural strength was 5–16%, and the elastic modulus was 13–30% of the recycled aggregate concrete in comparison with normal concrete at 28 days. By considering the application of recycled aggregate in the manufacture of new concrete, this study's results can serve as principles for achieving sustainable concrete infrastructure in the smart cities of the future.

The presented study introduces a robust estimation for the rate of existence of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in lungs through CT images in the state of the art of neutrosophic sets. Accordingly, identifying the severity rate of pneumonia infection in the lungs will be easily utilized. The main methodology depends on isolating the non-infected areas in both lungs by using neutrosophic set (NS) algorithm in order to segment these areas. The proposed methodology aims to extract three major sets of images;truth, falsity, and indeterminacy. Moreover, the resultant three images pass through a collection of image processing algorithms in order to increase the segmentation accuracy. Experimental results show a superior segmentation efficacy which guarantees a suitable decision making of concerning the severity rate. © 2021 IEEE.

Identifying moving objects from a video sequence is a fundamental task in most computer-vision applications. It is essential for visual tracking systems. In this paper, a new algorithm for background subtraction has been proposed and evaluated. Decision-level fusion of three background subtraction algorithms;frame difference, approximated median, and Mixture of Gaussians;has been utilized. It has been found that the percentage error for each frame has reduced remarkably when applying the proposed technique. Moreover, an entirely-automatic algorithm for adding scribbles in video matting is proposed to improve video matting results depending on the suggested background subtraction algorithm. The overall performance is evaluated. The average error has been reduced effectively and the overall performance has been enhanced. © 2021 IEEE.

Detecting COVID-19 cases as early as possible became a critical issue that must be addressed to avoid the pandemic’s additional spread and early provide the appropriate treatment to the affected *** study aimed to develop a COVID-19 diagnosis and prediction(AIMDP)model that could identify patients with COVID-19 and distinguish it from other viral pneumonia signs detected in chest computed tomography(CT)*** proposed system uses convolutional neural networks(CNNs)as a deep learning technology to process hundreds of CT chest scan images and speeds up COVID-19 case prediction to facilitate its *** employed the whale optimization algorithm(WOA)to select the most relevant patient signs.A set of experiments validated AIMDP *** demonstrated the superiority of AIMDP in terms of the area under the curve-receiver operating characteristic(AUC-ROC)curve,positive predictive value(PPV),negative predictive rate(NPR)and negative predictive value(NPV).AIMDP was applied to a dataset of hundreds of real data and CT images,and it was found to achieve 96%AUC for diagnosing COVID-19 and 98%for overall *** results showed the promising performance of AIMDP for diagnosing COVID-19 when compared to other recent diagnosing and predicting models.

The amount of agricultural waste has grown as agricultural output has expanded globally. Therefore, in order to protect the environment, agricultural waste needs to be disposed of appropriately. Many studies used various types of agricultural wastes in concrete production as a partial replacement of cement to reduce carbon footprint. In order to produce sustainable high-strength concrete (SHSC), this study focusses on employing two promising pozzolanic materials: rice sugarcane leaf ash (SLA) and sugar beetroot ash (SBA) in SHSC production with different replacement levels up to 20%. This research provides a wide-ranging assessment of the mechanical, physical, durability and microstructural characteristics of SHSC. With a focus on advancing eco-friendly construction, the study also includes fly ash (FA) to assess its combined effects on SHSC’s mechanical and durability characteristics. SHSC mixtures were exposed to various tests to evaluate the influence of replacement from different aspects: slump test, compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength, and modulus of elasticity, chloride penetration resistance, sorptivity, water permeability and scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). According to the findings, replacing cement with SLA and FA up to 20% presented the optimum tests results, which led to significant enhancements in all physical, mechanical and durability properties of SHSC. Additionally, the inclusion of SBA with replacement level of 10% resulted significant enhancements to all SHCS characteristics whereas, compressive strength increased by 16%, tensile splitting strength increased by 10.8%, flexural strength increased by 12.4% and modulus of elasticity increased by 7.66% compared to the control specimens. With 20% FA replacement level, the optimum durability levels ware obtained; the lowest chloride permeability by 1342 Coulomb, the lowest sorptivity coefficient by 0.051 mm/√s and the lowest water permeability by 2.61 × 10–11&nbs

Skin lesions would be diagnosed as one of the most health - threaten issues in the era of cancer. Computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) systems use, analyze, and extract lesion traits in order to help physicians in the process of classifying its type and predicting severity rate. In this paper, a modified active contour (AC) segmentation has been proposed based on a cosine objective function. This modification has been manipulated with respect to snake force, curvature, and an appropriate Heaviside function. Experimental findings show that the proposed method indicates a segmentation accuracy of 97.13%, a sensitivity of 67.8%, specificity of 99.1%, dice coefficient (DC) of 66.3%, and Jaccard coefficient (JAC) of 50.24%. © 2022 IEEE.

Healthcare Informatics mainly concerns with the management of patient medical information using different information technologies. The automated medical diagnosing is one of the main challenging tasks in healthcare informatics field due to diverse clinical considerations and the conflicting diagnosing that might occur. To this end, a Multi Agent Coordination-based Model (MACM) is presented in this paper to manage conflicts in decisions that might occurs during the diagnosing process. In MACM, a coordination between different agents will be applied in form of competition and negotiation processes. A Bidding Contract Competition Module (BCCM) is proposed to handle the bidding and contracting between agents. In addition, an Adaptive Bidding Protocol (ABP) is proposed to manage the bidding and selecting phases in BCCM. The performance of the proposed BCCM module are evaluated using number of experiments.
