An analytical solution is presented to compute the field distribution near a chiral cylinder surface at normal incidence of an on-axis Gaussian beam. The theoretical analysis of the scattering problem is complicated due to the fact that the left and right circularly polarized waves propagate in the chiral medium with different propagation constants. Numerical results for the normalized near-surface field intensity are given and discussed concisely.

The TD-SCDMA relay (repeater) provide network operators with a cost-effective means of extending coverage to areas of low signal strength. The maximum gain of a TD-SCDMA repeater is, however, limited by the amount of isolation that exists between the donor and coverage antennas. The radio echoes from coverage antennas not only create interference in the incoming signal from the base station, but also cause instability of the repeater. In this paper, we present an interference cancellation system (ICS) for TD-SCDMA networks, which can eliminate these problems. Various characteristic features of the ICS are illustrated using the MATlab simulation results.

Tissue P systems are distributed parallel and non-deterministic computing models in the framework of membrane computing, which are inspired by intercellular communication and cooperation between neurons. Recently, cell separation is introduced into tissue P systems, which enables systems to generate an exponential workspace in a polynomial time. In this work, the computational power of tissue P systems with cell separation is investigated. We analyzed the seismic waveforms from the December 26, 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake recorded at broadband seismic stations in western Europe. Previous studies involving of the beam-forming technique and high frequency analysis suggest that the earthquake ruptured with a duration of around 500 s. This very long duration makes P wave overlap with later arrivals such as PP wave, which follows P in about 200 s. Since P waves are crucial for modeling earthquake processes, we propose an iterative method to separate P and PP waveforms. The separated P waveform confirms a second large energy release around 300 s after the initial rupture. The iterative signal separation technique is particularly useful for mixed signals that are not independent and the number of recording stations far exceeds number of mixed signal sources.
