An analytical solution is presented to compute the field distribution near a chiral cylinder surface at normal incidence of an on-axis Gaussian beam. The theoretical analysis of the scattering problem is complicated due to the fact that the left and right circularly polarized waves propagate in the chiral medium with different propagation constants. Numerical results for the normalized near-surface field intensity are given and discussed concisely.

The TD-SCDMA relay (repeater) provide network operators with a cost-effective means of extending coverage to areas of low signal strength. The maximum gain of a TD-SCDMA repeater is, however, limited by the amount of isolation that exists between the donor and coverage antennas. The radio echoes from coverage antennas not only create interference in the incoming signal from the base station, but also cause instability of the repeater. In this paper, we present an interference cancellation system (ICS) for TD-SCDMA networks, which can eliminate these problems. Various characteristic features of the ICS are illustrated using the MATlab simulation results.

Clear image stitching becomes mature now, but how to stitch blurred images with clear ones is still tough, mainly because of the ill-posed image deblurring. Existing deblurring methods assume spatial-invarint blur kernel, pixelwise constant blur kernel or planar camera motion. But these assumptions are difficult to hold in the real blurred image which is a spatial-variant blurred image by 3D camera motion. To overcome such limits for stitching blurred image, in this paper, we present a new feature based framework of stitching a clear/blurred image pair. It is inspired by recently proposed projetive warping models depicting the camera movement embedded in the capturing process of the blurred image. Our main contribution is a feature based algorithm for kernel estimation using the overlapped clear/blurred image pair. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed stitching method.© 2011 IEEE.

An efficient implementation of double precision 1-D FFT for GPUs Using CUDA

Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is a well known and widely used tool in many scientific and engineering fields. CUFFT, which is the NVIDIA's FFT library included in the CUDA toolkit, supports double precision FFTs. However, the implementation of CUFFT is not very efficient. In this paper, we implement an efficient double-precision Cooley-tukey algorithm for GPUs using CUDA. Some programming techniques are employed to exploit the hardware characteristics. These techniques include on-chip shared memory utilization, removing redundant computation, and coalescing the global memory access. Experiments show that the performance of our 1-D FFT is as fast as CUFFT. Furthermore, the performance of our FFT implementation is more than twice faster than CUFFT for small input sizes. Brain-computer interface (BCI) which transforms signals from the brain into control signals can help people with disabilities communicate with others. In this paper, posteriori probability support vector machine (PPSVM) for patterns recognition was developed. For the classification of the left or right hand motor imagery, this method was used to expend the training set by adding samples with great probability output. For the dataset from 2003 BCI Competition, AR model was adopted to extract feature vectors and SVM with posteriori probabilistic output was used to classify the dataset. The results proved that, by adding samples with big probability, the performance of BCI was improved and higher accuracy was achieved. © 2011 IEEE.

Tissue P systems are distributed parallel and non-deterministic computing models in the framework of membrane computing, which are inspired by intercellular communication and cooperation between neurons. Recently, cell separation is introduced into tissue P systems, which enables systems to generate an exponential workspace in a polynomial time. In this work, the computational power of tissue P systems with cell separation is investigated. Specifically, a uniform family of tissue P systems with cell separation is constructed for effciently solving a well-known NP-complete problem, the partition problem.

An efficient SAR image fusion algorithm for multi - polarimetric images based on Directionlets transform is proposed. Directionlets transform is a new lattice-based multiscale analysis anisotropic multi-directional wavelet transform. Firstly, several polarimetric images can be decomposed into lowfrequency coefficients and high-frequency coefficients with multiscales and multi-directions using the Directionlets transform. For the low-frequency coefficients, the average fusion method is used. For the each directional high frequency sub-band coefficients, the directive contrast and the larger value of region variance information measurement is used to select the better coefficients for fusion. At last the fused image can be obtained by utilizing inverse transform for fused Directionlets coefficients. Experimental results show that compared with traditional algorithm, the proposed algorithm can get better visual effect and the significant information of original image like textures and contour details is well maintained. © 2011 IEEE.

Subspace selection is widely adopted in many areas of pattern recognition. A recent result, named maximizing the geometric mean of Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergences of class pairs (MGMD), is a successful method for subspace selection, which can significantly reduce the class separation problem. However, in many applications, labeled data are very limited while unlabeled data can be easily obtained. The estimation of divergences of class pairs is unstable using inadequate labeled data. To take advantage of unlabeled data for subspace selection, semi-supervised MGMD (SSMGMD) is proposed using graph Laplacian as normalization. Quasi-Newton method is adopted to solve the optimization problem. Experiments on synthetic data and real image data show the validity of SSMGMD. © 2011 IEEE.

Wave separation for the great Sumatra-Andaman earthquake with regional seismic array

We analyzed the seismic waveforms from the December 26, 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake recorded at broadband seismic stations in western Europe. Previous studies involving of the beam-forming technique and high frequency analysis suggest that the earthquake ruptured with a duration of around 500 s. This very long duration makes P wave overlap with later arrivals such as PP wave, which follows P in about 200 s. Since P waves are crucial for modeling earthquake processes, we propose an iterative method to separate P and PP waveforms. The separated P waveform confirms a second large energy release around 300 s after the initial rupture. The iterative signal separation technique is particularly useful for mixed signals that are not independent and the number of recording stations far exceeds number of mixed signal sources.

Contourlet transform is the combination of the multi-scale analysis and multi-directional analysis in processing high-dimensional signals and has better approximation precision and better sparse description. Firstly, Using the Contourlet transform, several polarimetric images can be decomposed into low-frequency coefficients and high-frequency coefficients with multi-scales and multi-directions. For the low-frequency coefficients, the average fusion method is used. For the each directional high frequency sub-band coefficients, the larger value of region variance information measurement is used to select the better coefficients for fusion. At last the fused image can be obtained by utilizing inverse transform for fused contourlet coefficients. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm works better in preserving the edges and texture information compared with the traditional image fusion algorithms. © 2011 IEEE.
