Most contemporary supervised Remote Sensing (RS) image Change Detection (CD) approaches are customized for equal-resolution bitemporal images. Real-world applications raise the need for cross-resolution change detection, aka, CD based on bitemporal images with different spatial resolutions. Given training samples of a fixed bitemporal resolution difference (ratio) between the high-resolution (HR) image and the low-resolution (LR) one, current cross-resolution methods may fit a certain ratio but lack adaptation to other resolution differences. Toward continuous cross-resolution CD, we propose scale-invariant learning to enforce the model consistently predicting HR results given synthesized samples of varying resolution differences. Concretely, we synthesize blurred versions of the HR image by random downsampled reconstructions to reduce the gap between HR and LR images. We introduce coordinate-based representations to decode per-pixel predictions by feeding the coordinate query and corresponding multi-level embedding features into an MLP that implicitly learns the shape of land cover changes, therefore benefiting recognizing blurred objects in the LR image. Moreover, considering that spatial resolution mainly affects the local textures, we apply local-window self-attention to align bitemporal features during the early stages of the encoder. Extensive experiments on two synthesized and one real-world different-resolution CD datasets verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. Our method significantly outperforms several vanilla CD methods and two cross-resolution CD methods on the three datasets both in in-distribution and out-of-distribution settings. The empirical results suggest that our method could yield relatively consistent HR change predictions regardless of varying bitemporal resolution ratios. In this paper, we present a new terminal sliding mode control to achieve predefined-time stability of robot manipulators. The proposed control is developed based on a novel predefined-time terminal sliding mode (PTSM) surface, on which the states are forced to reach the origin in a predefined time, i.e., the settling time is independent to the initial condition and can be explicitly user-defined via adjusting some specific parameters called the predefined-time parameters. It is also demonstrated that the proposed control can provide satisfactory steady-state performance in the case of both external disturbances and parametric uncertainties. Besides, we present a formal systemic analysis method to derive the sufficient conditions for guaranteeing the predefined-time convergence of the closed-loop system. Finally, the effectiveness and performance of the presented control scheme are illustrated through both theoretical comparisons and numerical simulations. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. Finite-size scaling of geometric renormalization flows in complex networks

Recently, the concept of geometric renormalization group provides a good approach for studying the structural symmetry and functional invariance of complex networks. Along this line, we systematically investigate the finite-size scaling of structural and dynamical observables in geometric renormalization flows of synthetic and real evolutionary networks. Our results show that these observables can be well characterized by a certain scaling function. Specifically, we show that the critical exponent implied by the scaling function is independent of these observables but only depends on the small-world properties of the network, namely, all networks located in the small-world phase have a uniform scaling exponent, while those located in the non-small-world phase and in their critical regions have another uniform scaling. More importantly, we perform extensive experiments on real evolutionary networks with small-world characteristics, and our results show that these observables also have uniform scaling in their geometric renormalization flows. Therefore, in a sense this exponent can be used as an effective measure for classifying universal small-world and non-small-world network models. © 2020, CC BY-SA.

Continual learning can incrementally absorb new concepts without interfering with previously learned knowledge. Motivated by the characteristics of neural networks, in which information is stored in weights on connections, we investigated how to design an Innately Forgetting-Free Network (IF2Net) for continual learning context. This study proposed a straightforward yet effective learning paradigm by ingeniously keeping the weights relative to each seen task untouched before and after learning a new task. We first presented the novel representation-level learning on task sequences with random weights. This technique refers to tweaking the drifted representations caused by randomization back to their separate task-optimal working states, but the involved weights are frozen and reused (opposite to well-known layer-wise updates of weights). Then, sequential decision-making without forgetting can be achieved by projecting the output weight updates into the parsimonious orthogonal space, making the adaptations not disturb old knowledge while maintaining model plasticity. IF2Net allows a single network to inherently learn unlimited mapping rules without telling task identities at test time by integrating the respective strengths of randomization and orthogonalization. Multi-view learning improves the learning performance by utilizing multi-view data: data collected from multiple sources, or feature sets extracted from the same data source. This approach is suitable for primate brain state decoding using cortical neural signals. This is because the complementary components of simultaneously recorded neural signals, local field potentials (LFPs) and action potentials (spikes), can be treated as two views. In this paper, we extended broad learning system (BLS), a recently proposed wide neural network architecture, from single-view learning to multi-view learning, and validated its performance in monkey oculomotor decision decoding from medial frontal LFPs and spikes. We demonstrated that medial frontal LFPs and spikes in non-human primate do contain complementary information about the oculomotor decision, and that the proposed multi-view BLS is a more effective approach to classify the oculomotor decision, than several classical and state-of-the-art single-view and multi-view learning approaches. This paper proposes a joint gain and input design method for observer-based asymptotic active fault diagnosis, which is based on a newly-defined notion named the excluding degree of the origin from a zonotope. Using the excluding degree, a quantitative specification is obtained to characterize the performance of set-based robust fault diagnosis. Furthermore, a single gain design method and a joint gain and input design method are proposed, respectively. This is the first work to achieve a joint observer gain and input design for set-based active fault diagnosis. Compared with the existing methods that design gains and input separately, the proposed joint gain and input design method has advantages to exploit the fault diagnosis potential of observer-based schemes. We design a distributed coordinated guiding vector field (CGVF) for a group of robots to achieve ordering-flexible motion coordination while maneuvering on a desired two-dimensional (2D) surface. The CGVF is characterized by three terms, i.e., a convergence term to drive the robots to converge to the desired surface, a propagation term to provide a traversing direction for maneuvering on the desired surface, and a coordinated term to achieve the surface motion coordination with an arbitrary ordering of the robotic group. By setting the surface parameters as additional virtual coordinates, the proposed approach eliminates potential singularity of the CGVF and enables both the global convergence to the desired surface and the maneuvering on the surface from all possible initial conditions. The ordering-flexible surface motion coordination is realized by each robot to share with its neighbors only two virtual coordinates, i.e. that of a given target and that of its own, which reduces the communication and computation cost in multi-robot surface navigation. In the process of urban logistics distribution, how to achieve efficiently and timely logistics distribution within the distribution time limit has become an urgent problem to be solved in logistics management. Three-echelon logistics distribution is considered to be an effective strategy to alleviate urban congestion, improve liquidity and reduce pollution. In this paper, a mathematical model of three-echelon logistics distribution problem considering time window constraint is established based on directed graph, and a double-tier intelligent algorithm coordinated by Distance Entropy-based Attractor Propagation (DEBAP) clustering algorithm - Crossover-and-Selection based Differential Evolution (CSBDE) is proposed. DEBAP is responsible for the optimization of region partitioning and facility allocation. The obtained region partitioning and facility allocation scheme are transmitted to CSBDE for path planning. CSBDE feeds back the optimized path planning scheme to DEBAP, and the two-tier intelligent algorithm cooperates to complete the optimization of three-echelon logistics distribution system. In addition, this paper proposes a search strategy based on reachable distribution region and a facility allocation optimization strategy based on path length as weight to improve the efficiency of the algorithm. The example calculation shows that the mathematical model and combined intelligent algorithm proposed in this paper can effectively solve 3-echelon logistics distribution problem(3E-LDP), provide theoretical and methodological guidance for multi-echelon logistics distribution, and can be well implemented in practice to help logistics operators reduce operation costs and improve customer service. © 2022, The Authors. A brain-computer interface (BCI) enables direct communication between the human brain and external devices. Electroencephalography (EEG) based BCIs are currently the most popular for able-bodied users. To increase user-friendliness, usually a small amount of user-specific EEG data are used for calibration, which may not be enough to develop a pure data-driven decoding model. To cope with this typical calibration data shortage challenge in EEG-based BCIs, this paper proposes a parameter-free channel reflection (CR) data augmentation approach that incorporates prior knowledge on the channel distributions of different BCI paradigms in data augmentation. Experiments on eight public EEG datasets across four different BCI paradigms (motor imagery, steady-state visual evoked potential, P300, and seizure classifications) using different decoding algorithms demonstrated that: 1) CR is effective, i.e., it can noticeably improve the classification accuracy;2) CR is robust, i.e., it consistently outperforms other data augmentation approaches in the literature;and, 3) CR is flexible, i.e., it can be combined with other data augmentation approaches to further increase the performance. We suggest that data augmentation approaches like CR should be an essential step in EEG-based BCIs. Our code is available online. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
