At present a steep increase in efforts by human beings in search of information take place. Pattern Recognition extracts information from the real world. It is a tool for modelling and real-world learning. Thus it requires precise knowledge of the objectives to be achieved with the information it produces. Human senses are part of their interface with the environment. Our senses are signal encoders according some representation that is understood by the central nervous system. Multimodality in signal capturing makes the spectrum of activities of intelligent agents wider. This paper aims to stimulate research for providing multimodal information, say, information that can be captured by different senses. This technique can improve decision-making;promote the inclusion of sense disabled individuals, giving higher amplitude for usefulness of Pattern Recognition. It considers multimodal display of knowledge to practical feasibility of knowledge presentation adapted to human sensing and perception towards decision improvement and inclusion of perception-impaired people. © 2014, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Health assistance depends essentially on effective information providing for professionals. Presently visual information plays an outstanding role concerning patients’ status without necessity of invading procedures. The diagnosis related to stage and texture in pressure ulcers (PU) is considered as a classification procedure, based on the image colors. As a training set this study captured 18 PU images from nine persons. RGB mean values were adopted as features to characterize the images. Classification used an ID3 similar algorithm. It achieved 83.3% accuracy concerning color and stage, as well as 88.9% concerning color and texture. So the technique was effective for automatic determination of PU stage and PU texture based on its color. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Improvement of pressure ulcers (PU) images analysis through computerized techniques is advantageous both to medical assistance institutions and to patients' life quality. The scientific challenge is to improve assistance to patients with PU by means of reliable image analysis procedures. Diagnosis of stage and predominant texture in a PU is essentially an image colour classification problem that can use existing knowledge. This study performs a classification of pressure ulcers images through an algorithm based on ID3 to construct a decision tree that has RGB statistics as input features and PU stage and texture as target features. A decision tree is constructed first by classification of 18 images of a training set. Then this tree is tested in a set of 45 PU images. Acceptable classification accuracy for training sets was not confirmed in test set.

Treatment of pressure ulcers (PU) is essentially image dependent, because its surface provides relevant visual information for medical procedures. There is an increasing interest to adapt information technology advances for a more effective medical image processing. Artificial Intelligence concerned techniques, say Image Mining, can be very helpful to manage large amount of PU images in order to increase productivity of health professionals and patients life quality. This paper proposes an Image Mining based system for automatic interpretation of tissue and color to support the treatment of patients with PU. © 2014 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

This paper presents an implementation of the Ant Colony Algorithm for the Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP). For the calculation of the best way between two adjacent points in the route, the classical algorithm of Dijkstra was used. Field activities and tests were carried out in different collective organisations, and collection and distribution route maps were created for each pilot-organisation. During the development of the system, some processes were revised in order to better adjust the routes, after considering the parameters related to cost, time and sales volume. The main difficulties in the development of this system were related to the adaptation of the standards proposed by urban routing systems to a rural context. Also, concerning the future trends of the model, many efforts have been made to improve the geographical interface and to test other VRP algorithms, like VRP with time windows and Dynamic VRP. Hybrid Neural Systems that integrate symbolic algorithms or fuzzysystems to Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) are a potential alternativeto the more traditional ANN models. However, in contrast with the ANNmodels, these systems have not been yet fully explored from a practicalviewpoint to show their effectiveness in large scale applications. Thispaper presents an extensive comparative analysis of the neuro-fuzzymodels FWD (Feature-Weighted Detector) and FuNN (Fuzzy Neural Network),together with their rule extraction techniques in a large-scale *** aspects are considered: generalization performance of the models,and the interpretation and explanation qualities of the extractedknowledge. The experiments are conducted in the context of a large scalecredit risk assessment application in a real-world operation of aBrazilian financial institution. Availability of visual information means an effective way to improve specialized work in quite different areas. They enable reality modeling, a faster context analysis, a more successful search for problem solutions, an objective oriented decision making, as well as important elements for instructional processes. Avisual model is a simulation form that stimulate insights, say, creative answers to yet open questions and derivation of yet not imagined possible facts concerning a studied reality. Visual features of human body are highly relevant as basic information for a variety of decisions on activities in health domain. Through mechanisms of user-friendly interface one can promptly access and eventually perform adjustments. One can achieve better life quality and greater efficiency in health service from state as well. This paper describes an approach towards a visualization process of skin lesions, including features recognition for therapeutic processes and relevant decisions, with experimental validation. © 2014 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

This short paper/poster discusses the role uncertainty plays in judgments of the meaning and significance of ideas and texts encountered by scholars working with networked information systems. Uncertainty is often associated with risk, fear and danger. However, the perception and strategic use of uncertainty can be both a positive and negative influence on behavior. This poster discusses an investigation of the nature of uncertainty in the context of scholarly research and the use of networked information systems in the ongoing research activities of two informants. What forms do positive and negative perceptions of uncertainty take in this context? How much uncertainty are people in such a context prepared to tolerate? The themes presented here are based on a process-oriented, longitudinal study of these judgments. This poster invites discussion about the complexity surrounding searcher experiences of uncertainty by demonstrating how working through uncertainty becomes a mediating strategy for knowledge generation.

Our highly digitized world brings us into contact with networked information systems with the potential to help us locate information quickly and easily at the touch of a button. But it is far from easy to quickly find the exact information we need. Every new resource added increases the time needed to locate the right information. The increasing scale of resource collections continues to drive the need for innovative methods of organizing and providing access to the information within these collections (Bates, 1999 ). This panel will discuss the prospect of designing for uncertainty - that is creating information systems based on the premise that (in certain situations) uncertainty can be a powerful mediating strategy for people.

The high number of clients suffering from pressure ulcers (PU) overloads hospital services, which are not equipped with the necessary human and technological resources. One needs to increase the productivity of this work, since health professionals, especially nurses use subjective and inaccurate assessments for PU diagnosis. This paper proposes a system for automatic interpretation of tissue and color to support the treatment of patients with PU.
