Tumor-educated platelets (TEPs) are circulating blood cells with a distinct tumor-driven phenotype and act as carriers and protectors of metastases. To date, some studies have shown that the TEPs transcriptome can be used for cancer diagnostics. The objective of this study is to propose a procedure based on differential gene expression and differential gene co-expression analyses to identify a set of key genes for multi-class cancer diagnostics. To reach this aim, we analyzed RNA-seq data (57736 genes) of 130 subjects, of whom 40 patients with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), 35 patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD), and 55 healthy donors (HC). We focused our analysis on the subset of differentially expressed genes (DEGs), and we used these genes to build and analyze the differential co-expression networks, identifying the hub genes. With this procedure, we obtained a restricted set of DEGs that maximize the accuracy in classifying patients according to their conditions (GBM, PAAD, or HC). Indeed, we validated our results by comparing the achieved classification accuracy with that resulting from random selections of DEGs and we obtained that genes selected by differential co-expression (DCE) network analysis have greater predictive power than any other set of differentially expressed genes, including using all of them. © 2022 IEEE.

Recent innovations and developments in molecular biology and biotechnology have made it possible to acquire and store large omics datasets. In particular genomics, transcriptomics and the study of their relationship represent the key elements to understand how genotype influences phenotype. In this work we investigate the potential of multi-layer network modeling in integrating genomic and transcriptomic data of 152 advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients treated with anti-PD-(L)1 therapy. For the transcriptomic layer, we performed differential expression and differential co-expression analyses in order to identify a subset of key genes in differentiating responder patients from non-responders. Adding to the genomic-transcriptomic model other three layers related to immune, myeloid and curated immunotherapy-based literature signatures we obtained a 5-layer Patient Similarity Network. The application of Similarity Network Fusion algorithm revealed a statistically significant stratification of patients (p-value ≤ 0.05) which allows the identification of two clusters characterized by patients responding and not responding to immunotherapy.

Potential of intrusion during smart meter data collection is an important problem for household privacy in next-generation smart homes. There are various privacy protection methods such as hiding the real usage with renewable batteries (RBs) and encrypted communication. There are privacy threats due to the detection of the energy transfer through RBs while encryption-based methods result in high computational complexity. In this study, a novel privacy improvement mechanism is proposed based on the routing of energy through multiple smart meters among multiple houses in a neighborhood. The optimization of privacy based on uniform randomization is theoretically modeled and some heuristic solutions are presented. In this method, energy transfer is randomly distributed among multiple smart meters, real usage of a house is buffered with the RB and smart meter indices are randomly selected. In numerical simulations, privacy improvement is shown by utilizing the random selection of smart meter indices for randomizing the energy routing and the buffers of RBs. Furthermore, energy privacy (EP) metric validating the simulation results is defined. Energy routing with multiple smart meters provides a practical and low complexity privacy protection mechanism for next-generation smart grid architectures. © 2020 IEEE.

He was the Design Manager for the Engineering and Design Phase ofthe Enhanced Maritime Prepositioning Fme Ship (MPF(E)). Cuwently Mt: M2.zumdar is Deputy Ship Design Manager in NAVSEA 030 for the LHD and LSD classes of ships. Mr. Mazumdar was awarded a BSE in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1981 and an MS in Computer Science fiom Virginia Tech in 1988. He also possesses an International ChiejEngineer License (Motot unlimited). Mr. Mancmdar has been an Associate Member of WAME since 1981. James C. Sandison:is a Senior Ship Design Manager (SDM) for surface ships in the Nawl Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA03D3C). He has a long tem practical background in design construction and testing of surface ships. Starting in NAVSEC as a diving and salvage systems engineer for the Bathyscaph TRIESTE he has been involved with most ofthe Nays Mine Warfare and Auxiliary ships from naval architect to the present Senior Ship Design Manager for the Strategic Sealift Program. Mr: Sandison entered the U.S. Navy in 1956 in the (diesel) Submarine Service. Afterward he “went to sea in sailing ships and completed an apprenticeship as a wooden shipbuildex. In 1971 he graduated from the University of Michigan with a BSE in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and was employed by NAVSEC. His latest additional duties have been as engineering coordinator on board the USS CONSTITUTION for her 200th anniversary sail. Mr. Sandison is a member of SNAME ASNE and the U.S. Naval Institute. Rick DuFlocq has over 24 years of combined project management mechanical system and general awangmmt design and design documentation experience the last 14 years urith Advance Marine Enterprises (AME). The paper will describe the streamlined acquisition process involved in the procurement, and conversion, of the first two of three Enhanced Maritime Prepositioning Force (MPF(E)) ships. This program was one of the first programs undertaken within the Government's new policy of Acquisition Reform, which resulted in the development of "performance based" requirements for these ships. This program is notable in that one prime contractor is responsible for the accomplishment of all phases, and that the contractors participating were not shipyards as is usually the fashion for Government ship acquisition programs. Also of note, was that after the conversion contracts were awarded, responsibility for the conduct of detail design, conversion, and operation and maintenance of the ship was transferred from the NAVSEA Sealift program Office (PMS 385) to the Military Sealift Command (msc). The first part of the paper will describe the basic mission of the MPF(E) ships, and a description of the origin of the program requirements. The second part of the paper will chronicle in detail the portions of the engineering design and specification development process, which will include descriptions of the unique digital data recording and tracking systems developed by the Government MPF(E) Design Support Team to support the acquisition phases of the procurement. The third and final part of the paper will elaborate on the conversion contract awards and the transition of the program from PMS 385 to msc.
