Laminated composites are the most frequently used component materials in manufacturing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in research centers or start-up industries. On a laboratory scale, laminated composites are fabricated by relying on technicians' skills due to the involvement of manual processes. Nondestructive testing (NDT) is needed to guarantee the structural integrity of the final product of laminated composites. The work proposes a programmable portable ultrasonic for nondestructive testing (NDT) to detect a potential defect due to foreign object contamination of fabrication layers of laminate composite. The proposed programmable NDT system is built using open-board devices; therefore, it could be developed cost-effectively compared to a commercial NDT system. The proposed NDT can measure and analyze a pattern of A-scan signal as a function of foreign object contamination material. Based on a C-scan image, the proposed NDT system could also be programmed to detect the size area of potential defects due to foreign object contamination. Two types of specimens, carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) and glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP), were tested to evaluate the performance of the developed NDT system. Testing aims to identify artificial defects intentionally placed within these specimens. The proposed portable ultrasonic NDT effectively detects CFRP and GFRP defects on A-mode and C-scan images. Therefore, the proposed portable ultrasonic NDT is an affordable system that can be developed in a laboratory workshop for quality control in laboratory-scale fabrication of laminated composites.

Utilization of motor signal information of articulatory muscles and facial images separately in speech recognition shows that these two pieces of information are related to the articulation process. This study examines the relationship between EMG signals and facial deformation in several conditions during the pronunciation of vowel phonemes. The characteristics of the articulatory muscle contractions around the oral cavity are reviewed for 3 phases (initial, maximum, and final) for the pronunciation of each vowel phoneme. Segmentation and wavelet denoising are used to condition the EMG signal; then, the RMS amplitude is extracted from the signal using an RMS envelope. 2D vector maps are extracted from 3-phase images and displayed as compass maps for each phase. In this study, the relationship between motor signals of articulation muscles and facial articulator movements was found. This finding is shown in all pronunciations from EMG and vector values, which are the largest in phase 2. Also, the activity of muscle depressor anguli oris plays more significant role in the pronunciation of vowel phonemes.

Traffic congestion has become a serious problem in Indonesia, especially in Jakarta city. The main problem occurs at intersections. One of the solutions that can be proposed to reduce congestion at the intersection is to implement traffic signal control strategy at the intersection. Levels of congestion are determined by the queue length of vehicles. Green time (Tg) and red time (Tr) are determined by the queue length on each of the intersection leg. The lowest congestion level is represented by the smallest value of queue length. Optimization is performed in order to find an optimal value of green time (Tg), such that the queue length of vehicles becomes the smallest in constant cycle time. Due to the cycle time (Tn) is constant and the intersection is controlled in 2 phases, the variable needed to be optimized is only the green time (Tg). The red time (Tr) can then be counted from the cycle time (Tn) minus the green time (Tg).

Acute stroke is often followed by dysphagia. Currently, Videofluoroscopy Swallow Study (VFSS) is accepted as a gold standard to evaluate the severity of dysphagia. However, the usage of X-rays in VFSS limits the frequency of evaluation on the patient. Surface Electromyography (sEMG) can be used as a supportive tool for dysphagia evaluation. However, the size and rigidity of the conventional electrode used in sEMG made measuring the muscle activity on the neck muscle difficult. A flexible electrode is developed to tackle those problems. However, a characterization of the developed flexible electrode is needed to ensure that the flexible electrode’s performance matches the conventional electrode’s performance. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of the conventional and flexible electrode based on their spectral characteristics. Both electrodes are used to measure three dry swallow procedures. Spectral estimation of the measured signal is obtained using Welch’s power spectral density and then compared for both electrodes. The signal-to-noise (SNR) is also calculated to see the fidelity of the obtained signal. As a result, the flexible electrode has comparable performance to the conventional electrode.
