Network embedding, mapping nodes in a network to a low-dimensional space, achieves powerful performance. An increasing number of works focus on static network embedding, however, seldom attention has been paid to temporal network embedding, especially without considering the effect of mesoscopic dynamics when the network evolves. In light of this, we concentrate on a particular motif - triad - and its temporal dynamics, to study the temporal network embedding. Specifically, we propose MTNE, a novel embedding model for temporal networks. MTNE not only integrates the Hawkes process to stimulate the triad evolution process that preserves motif-aware high-order proximities, but also combines attention mechanism to distinguish the importance of different types of triads better. Experiments on various real-world temporal networks demonstrate that, compared with several state-of-the-art methods, our model achieves the best performance in both static and dynamic tasks, including node classification, link prediction, and link recommendation. © 2020 Inst. Synergies between the Circular Economy and Carbon Emission Reduction

Climate change and sustainable development are two crucial drivers of transformation within economic development models. In turn, carbon emission reduction and the circular economy are two key engines pushing forward climate change and sustainable development programs, but the question remains, do they synergize with one another, or work against each other? This study approaches this question from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Utilizing a framework that combines theory and practice, bibliometric analysis and big data analysis of text were used to analyze the Web of science database and 2.29GB of data taken from cases in China, to understand what synergies exist between carbon emission reduction and the circular economy. The study reveals that the predominant interaction between the circular economy and carbon emission reduction is synergistic, with few offsetting effects. In other words, the circular economy significantly promotes carbon emissions reduction. At the theoretical level, the two fields are gradually evolving toward in-depth research, while at the practical level, collaboration is coalescing around four areas: hot fields, potential fields, auxiliary fields and common goals. A noteworthy contribution of this study is the development of a framework that synergizes theory and practice, providing a structured approach for future research in this domain. By quantifying the synergistic and offsetting relationship between the circular economy and carbon emissions reduction through systematic big data analysis, this research offers insights essential for achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. We also emphasize the importance of diverse case studies and multi-dimensional data analyses in future research endeavors. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Modern data acquisition routinely produce massive amounts of event sequence data in various domains, such as social media, healthcare, and financial markets. These data often exhibit complicated short-Term and long-Term temporal dependencies. However, most of the existing recurrent neural network based point process models fail to capture such dependencies, and yield unreliable prediction performance. To address this issue, we propose a Transformer Hawkes Process (THP) model, which leverages the self-Attention mechanism to capture long-Term dependencies and meanwhile enjoys computational efficiency. Numerical experiments on various datasets show that THP outperforms existing models in terms of both likelihood and event prediction accuracy by a notable margin. Moreover, THP is quite general and can incorporate additional structural knowledge. We provide a concrete example, where THP achieves improved prediction performance for learning multiple point processes when incorporating their relational information. © 2020 by the Authors All rights reserved.

In recent decades,emerging and re-emerging human-infecting pathogens have been represented as huge threats to public health and have become a global concern(1).After outbreaks of two coronaviruses(CoVs),severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus(SARS-CoV)and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus(MERS-CoV),severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)became the first-known pandemic hastening CoV with tremendous wrecking to the world(2).The origin tracing of these emerging pathogens is of great significance in infectious disease prevention and control(3–4).The origin of SARS-CoV-2 remains elusive after the more than 3-year pandemic,though scientists around the world are making great *** the experience of studying many other infectious pathogens,origin tracing is systematic and time-consuming *** supposed origins of many infectious pathogens are still in debate,including SARS-CoV and human immunodeficiency virus,etc(5).

Progressively guide to attend: An iterative alignment framework for temporal sentence grounding

A key solution to temporal sentence grounding (TSG) exists in how to learn effective alignment between vision and language features extracted from an untrimmed video and a sentence description. Existing methods mainly leverage vanilla soft attention to perform the alignment in a single-step process. However, such single-step attention is insufficient in practice, since complicated relations between inter- and intra-modality are usually obtained through multi-step reasoning. In this paper, we propose an Iterative Alignment Network (IA-Net) for TSG task, which iteratively interacts inter- and intra-modal features within multiple steps for more accurate grounding. Specifically, during the iterative reasoning process, we pad multi-modal features with learnable parameters to alleviate the nowhere-to-attend problem of non-matched frame-word pairs, and enhance the basic co-attention mechanism in a parallel manner. To further calibrate the misaligned attention caused by each reasoning step, we also devise a calibration module following each attention module to refine the alignment knowledge. With such iterative alignment scheme, our IA-Net can robustly capture the fine-grained relations between vision and language domains step-by-step for progressively reasoning the temporal boundaries. Extensive experiments conducted on three challenging benchmarks demonstrate that our proposed model performs better than the state-of-the-arts. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Full-Atom Protein Pocket Design via Iterative Refinement

The design of de novo functional proteins that bind specific ligand molecules is paramount in therapeutics and bio-engineering. A critical yet formidable task in this endeavor is the design of the protein pocket, which is the cavity region of the protein where the ligand binds. Current methods are plagued by inefficient generation, inadequate context modeling of the ligand molecule, and the inability to generate side-chain atoms. Here, we present the Full-Atom Iterative Refinement (FAIR) method, designed to address these challenges by facilitating the co-design of protein pocket sequences, specifically residue types, and their corresponding 3D structures. FAIR operates in two steps, proceeding in a coarse-to-fine manner (transitioning from protein backbone to atoms, including side chains) for a full-atom generation. In each iteration, all residue types and structures are simultaneously updated, a process termed full-shot refinement. In the initial stage, the residue types and backbone coordinates are refined using a hierarchical context encoder, complemented by two structure refinement modules that capture both inter-residue and pocket-ligand interactions. The subsequent stage delves deeper, modeling the side-chain atoms of the pockets and updating residue types to ensure sequence-structure congruence. Concurrently, the structure of the binding ligand is refined across iterations to accommodate its inherent flexibility. Comprehensive experiments show that FAIR surpasses existing methods in designing superior pocket sequences and structures, producing average improvement exceeding 10% in AAR and RMSD metrics. Meta-Path Based Graph Contrastive Learning for Micro-Video Recommendation

Nowadays, micro-video sharing platforms have become popular tools for people creating and viewing micro-videos in daily life. Micro-video recommendation task has attracted significant attention from researchers, recently. The key to a high-quality micro-video recommendation system is learning meaningful user and micro-video representations. Recently, many graph neural networks (GNNs) are proposed to learn node representations in graphs, which could be useful for recommendation tasks. However, we argue that directly utilizing existing GNNs in micro-video recommendations is ill-posed. The reasons are: (1) most previous GNNs fail to capture the heterogeneity of heterogeneous graphs since they are designed for homogeneous graphs;(2) they overemphasize node proximity and could hurt the robustness of node embeddings. In contrast to previous work, we propose a meta-path-based graph contrastive learning network (MPGCL) that learns more meaningful user and video embeddings for recommendation. Specifically, we yield homogeneous graphs for user type and video type to better capture heterogeneity based on a well-designed meta-path-based random walk strategy. Furthermore, to learn more robust node embeddings that are less sensitive to noise, we propose a graph contrastive learning network on different types of homogeneous graphs, which maximizes the consistency between graph representations with different views. We do extensive experiments on three real-world datasets and the results show that our model can learn more meaningful embeddings for user and micro-videos and outperforms the strong baselines. © 2022, The Authors. We present GauKGT5, a sequence-to-sequence model proposed for knowledge graph completion (KGC). Our research extends the KGT5 model, a recent sequence-to-sequence link prediction (LP) model. GauKGT5 takes advantage of textual characteristics inherent in the knowledge graph, exhibiting a small model size. However, KGT5’s proficiency in link prediction necessitates the ensemble with a knowledge graph embedding model, which itself poses challenges due to its substantial size and expense. By integrating the Gated Attention Unit into the KGT5 model and directly applying it to the encoder-decoder structure, we achieve improved contextual dependency capturing within the sequence, resulting in enhanced prediction accuracy, accelerated training speed, and enhanced computational efficiency. At the same time, we introduce parallel computing as a means to enhance the efficiency of model training and inference within the XPU distributed computing environment.

Vflh: A Following-the-Leader-History Based Algorithm for Adaptive Online Convex Optimization with Stochastic Constraints

This paper considers online convex optimization (OCO) with generated i.i.d. stochastic constraints, where the distribution of environment is changing and the performance is measured by \textit{adaptive regret}. The stochastic constraints are disclosed at each round to the learner after the decision is made. Different from the previous non-adaptive constrained OCO algorithm which is generalized based on the traditional online gradient descent algorithm, we propose a novel \textit{Virtual queue based Following-the-Leader-History} (VFLH) strategy to make the constrained OCO algorithm adaptive and design the VFLH algorithm. In this setting, the algorithm firstly generalizes all the experts in the specified time interval, then decides the optimal decision with each expert and gives out the final choice by combining the predictions of active experts. In terms of the algorithm performance, there are two performance metrics to be evaluated, i.e., the bounds of constraint violation and regret. For the constraint violation, we bring in the multi-objective drift analysis approach to deal with the constraints via a virtual queue which provides a new method to bound the constraints violations. For the regret, we give out its upper bound and then achieve a corresponding lower bound that proves the upper bound is sufficiently tight. Finally, we provide some numerical experiments to validate the feasibility of our algorithm. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.
