The emergence of heterogeneous data brings new challenges to Federated Learning (FL). Unlike homogeneous datasets, heterogeneous data are inherently characterized by sample domain center offsets, which makes traditional federated learning often suffer from poor model results due to catastrophic forgetting and increased communication costs when dealing with such data. To address this problem, we introduce FedNHN, a novel Personalized Federated Learning (PFL) algorithm. FedNHN regularizes the local training loss by quantifying the disparity between the local and global models to generate pseudo-data feature representations. Specifically, it generates two types of pseudo-data: Highly Pseudo and Perturbed data, by employing the Fast Gradient Sign Method (FGSM) with both the global model and local data. Furthermore, FedNHN leverages the Hilbert-Schmidt Independence Criterion (DN-HSIC) to assess the distances between the feature representations of the generated data by the global model and the local model, respectively, and utilizes the Centered Kernel Alignment (CKA) similarity based on DN-HSIC to regulate the local training loss effectively. Our mathematical analyses show that our design can maintain the utility of the federated model under heterogeneous data, and extensive evaluations on three classical datasets illustrate the effectiveness and performance of our proposed implementation. © 2024 IEEE.

Segment Anything Model (SAM) has recently gained much attention for its outstanding generalization to unseen data and tasks. Despite its promising prospect, the vulnerabilities of SAM, especially to universal adversarial perturbation (UAP) have not been thoroughly investigated yet. In this paper, we propose DarkSAM, the first prompt-free universal attack framework against SAM, including a semantic decoupling-based spatial attack and a texture distortion-based frequency attack. We first divide the output of SAM into foreground and background. Then, we design a shadow target strategy to obtain the semantic blueprint of the image as the attack target. DarkSAM is dedicated to fooling SAM by extracting and destroying crucial object features from images in both spatial and frequency domains. In the spatial domain, we disrupt the semantics of both the foreground and background in the image to confuse SAM. In the frequency domain, we further enhance the attack effectiveness by distorting the high-frequency components (i.e., texture information) of the image. Consequently, with a single UAP, DarkSAM renders SAM incapable of segmenting objects across diverse images with varying prompts. Experimental results on four datasets for SAM and its two variant models demonstrate the powerful attack capability and transferability of DarkSAM. Owing to its ability to mitigate the double-fading effect by amplifying the reflected signal, the active intelligent reflecting surface(IRS) has garnered significant attention. In this paper, an amplify-and-forward(AF) relay network assisted by a hybrid IRS consisting of both passive and active units is developed. A signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) maximization problem is formulated, where the AF relay beamforming matrix and the hybrid IRS reflecting coefficient matrices for two-time slots need to be optimized. To address the SNR maximization problem, this paper proposes both a high-performance(HP) method and a low-complexity(LC) method. The HP method is based on the semidefinite relaxation and fractional programming(SDR-FP)algorithm, with rank-1 solutions obtained through Gaussian randomization. For the LC method, the amplification coefficient of each active IRS element is assumed to be equal. The SNR maximization problem is then addressed using the whitening filter,generalized power iteration, and generalized Rayleigh-Ritz(WF-GPI-GRR) approach. Simulation results show that compared with the benchmarks, such as the passive IRS-aided AF relay network, the proposed HP-SDR-FP and WF-GPI-GRR methods achieve significant rate improvements. In particular, the HP-SDR-FP and WF-GPI-GRR methods yield more than a 135.0%rate gain when the transmit power Ps of the source is 10 dBm. Furthermore, the proposed HP-SDR-FP method outperforms the WF-GPI-GRR method in terms of rate performance.

Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) has become a hot research field in oral clinic. Due to the similar contrast between caries and periodontal tissues, especially the proximal caries, it is difficult for general CAD methods to accurately detect the location of caries. Aiming at this problem, an image semantic segmentation algorithm based on U-Net and attention mechanism is proposed. First, the dental bitewings dataset was constructed. Second, the CBAM module is integrated into the U-Net network for focusing on caries-affected areas. Finally, the semantic segmentation accuracy is further improved by multi-scale feature fusion. The experimental results show that the model proposed in this paper has significant improvements in multiple performances compared with algorithms such as PSP-Net. © VDE VERLAG GMBH ∙ Berlin ∙ Offenbach.

Intelligent medical diagnosis has shown remarkable progress on the large-scale datasets with full annotations. However, very few labeled images are available due to significantly expensive annotations by experts. To efficiently leverage abundant unlabeled data, we propose a novel Spatio-Temporal Structure Consistent (STSC) learning framework to combine both spatial and temporal structure consistency. Specifically, a gram matrix is derived to capture the structural similarity among different training samples in the representation space. At the spatial level, our framework explicitly enforces the consistency of structural similarity among different samples under perturbations. At the temporal level, we desire to maintain the consistency of the structural similarity in different training iterations by digging out the stable sub-structures in a relation graph. Experiments on two medical image datasets (i.e., ISIC 2018 and ChestX-ray14) show that our method outperforms state-of-the-art Semi-Supervised Learning (SSL) methods. Furthermore, extensive qualitative analysis on the Gram matrices and heatmaps by Grad-CAM are presented to validate the effectiveness of our method. © 2023 IEEE.

Video inpainting aims to utilize plausible contents to fill missing regions in the video. State-of-the-art video inpainting methods typically generate the missing contents of the target frame (current frame) by aggregating the temporal information of reference frames (neighboring frames) aligned using deformable convolution. However, these deformable convolution alignment networks often suffer from offset overflow during training, resulting in unsatisfactory alignment, thereby obtaining compromised inpainting performance. In this paper, we propose a self-supervised Flow-Guided Deformable Alignment (FGDA) network for aligning reference frames at the feature level. FGDA computes the residual of the optical flow as the offsets. This design can effectively reduce the burden of offsets learning, thereby avoiding offset overflow. Furthermore, a gradient-weighted reconstruction loss for supervised completed frame reconstruction is designed, which can use the gradients in all directions of the video frame to emphasize the difficultly reconstructed texture regions, so that detail textures get more attention during training. Experiments show that FGDA-based video inpainting model trained with gradient-weighted reconstruction loss outperforms the state-of-the-art by a significant margin in terms of PSNR and SSIM with relative improvements of 6.2% and 2.1%, respectively. © 2023 IEEE.

Visual-semantic network: a visual and semantic enhanced model for gesture recognition

Gesture recognition has attracted considerable attention and made encouraging progress in recent years due to its great potential in applications. However, the spatial and temporal modeling in gesture recognition is still a problem to be solved. Specifically, existing works lack efficient temporal modeling and effective spatial attention capacity. To efficiently model temporal information, we first propose a long- and short-term temporal shift module (LS-TSM) that models the long-term and short-term temporal information simultaneously. Then, we propose a spatial attention module (SAM) that focuses on where the change primarily occurs to obtain effective spatial attention capacity. In addition, the semantic relationship among gestures is helpful in gesture recognition. However, this is usually neglected by previous works. Therefore, we propose a label relation module (LRM) that takes full advantage of the relationship among classes based on their labels’ semantic information. To explore the best form of LRM, we design four different semantic reconstruction methods to incorporate the semantic relationship information into the class label’s semantic space. We perform extensive ablation studies to analyze the best settings of each module. The best form of LRM is utilized to build our visual-semantic network (VS Network), which achieves the state-of-the-art performance on two gesture datasets, i.e., EgoGesture and NVGesture. © The Author(s) 2023.

With the ongoing advancement of deep learning, modern network intrusion detection systems increasingly favor utilizing deep learning networks to improve their ability to learn traffic characteristics. To address the challenge of obtaining a substantial amount of labeled training data, many intrusion detection systems now focus on unsupervised anomaly detection methods. Despite this shift, researchers still face the daunting task of distinguishing a significant volume of anomalous traffic and dealing with data imbalance. To address these real-world challenges, we introduce UARC, a system capable of achieving unsupervised anomaly traffic detection through multi-clustering. UARC utilizes an enhanced U-shaped autoencoder and a feature fusion method incorporating Masked Retnet to effectively extract spatiotemporal features from network traffic. It combines these techniques with the HDBSCAN algorithm for multi-clustering of traffic, providing a form of reverse guidance for network learning. Experimental results on multiple datasets demonstrate that UARC can cluster various types of traffic with an impressive accuracy rate of up to 97.96%, while achieving a 99.70% AUC value for anomaly detection. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

The forecasting of sales data is a widely studied issue in the fields of artificial intelligence and time series forecasting. TCN (Temporal Convolutional Network) is the most adept at managing time series data among all classical models due to its distinctive architecture. In this paper, we design a TCN-based model for time series forecasting of sales data and propose three variants: a combined model of TCN with RNN, LSTM and GRU to enhance the performance of time series forecasting. Experimental results show that these models perform well in handling the sales data forecasting task, especially the combination of TCN with LSTM performs best in several metrics.
