Recent work has proven the effort of researchers to integrate small sensors and a cloud environment, delivering the Internet of Things (IoT). Sensors as a service are one of the leading research concerns in this context. Nevertheless, security is becoming one of the most significant attributes of the IoT as sensors become more human-independent and are being extensively used to monitor human lives. That way, IoT brings many key security challenges that need attention, some of which we address in this position paper. We present a cloud-based infrastructure that can deliver sensors and actuators as a service, providing secure communication between them and the control nodes on which IoT applications rely while implementing Big Data algorithms. For mapping our proposal, two scenarios related to Health Assistance are discussed, considering secure communications in a sensor network. In conclusion, we propose a scope for future research in this field considering digital twin concepts. Since domains exploiting IoT technologies can benefit from adopting Digital Twin, our goal is to evolve a virtual sensor and actuator system into this technology. © 2023 IEEE.

Territorial Ecological Restoration with a High-carbon Storage Focus in the Beibu Gulf Urban Agglomeration of China:Insights from Carbon Metabolism Spatial Security Patterns

This study focuses on urgent research on restoring and enhancing carbon storage capacity in the Beibu Gulf Urban Agglomer-ation of China,a key area in the‘Belt and Road’Initiative,which aligns with carbon peaking and neutrality *** research ana-lyzes the spatial characteristics of carbon metabolism from 2000 to 2020 and uses models to identify stable carbon sink areas,positive carbon flow corridors,and carbon sequestration *** goal is to construct a carbon metabolism spatial security pattern(CMSSP)and propose territorial ecological restoration strategies under different development demand *** results show the following:1)in 2020,the study area’s carbon sink decreased by 8.29×10^(4) t C/yr compared with that in 2010 and by 10.83×10^(4) t C/yr compared with that in ***-carbon sinks were found mainly in mountainous areas,whereas low-carbon sinks are concentrated in urban con-struction land,rural residential areas,and land margins.2)From 2000 to 2020,the spatial security pattern of carbon metabolism tended to be‘high in the middle of the east and west and low in the gulf.’In 2000,2010,and 2020,16 stable carbon sinks were *** carbon energy flow density in Guangxi was greater than that in Guangdong and Hainan,with positive carbon flow corridors located primarily in Guangxi and *** number of carbon sequestration nodes remained stable at approximately 15,mainly in Guangxi and Hainan.3)Scenario simulations revealed that under the Nature-based mild restoration scenario,the carbon sink rate will reach 611.85×10^(4) t C/yr by 2030 and increase to 612.45×10^(4) t C/yr by 2060,with stable carbon sinks increasing to *** the restora-tion scenario based on Anti-globalization,the carbon sink will decrease from 610.24×10^(4) t C/yr in 2030 to 605.19×10^(4) t C/yr in 2060,with the disappearance of some positive carbon flow corridors and stable carbon *** the Human-based sustainable restoration scenario,the carbon sink area wil

Dynamic weight-based connectivity recovery in wireless sensor and actor networks

Wireless sensors and actor networks (WSANs) have been widely used in various fields, from basic data collection to precise real-time control and monitoring, including battlefield monitoring, rescue, and exploration. The actor nodes in a WSAN play a key role in processing and transmitting data, and because of the harsh environmental conditions encountered, network node failures are prone to occur. The failure of an actor causes a loss of connectivity with its neighbor nodes, resulting in network splits and failure to deliver messages between nodes. Therefore, determining how to quickly and autonomously recover network connectivity while minimizing the moving distance of backup nodes and the number of relocated nodes is crucial. In this paper, we propose a dynamic weight-based connectivity recovery (DWCR) method to minimize the total moving distance of actor nodes, the number of relocated nodes, the total messages sent, and the coverage loss rate. The proposed DWCR method involves selecting a backup node for each critical node by dynamically adjusting the weight. If a critical node fails, the backup node starts to move to restore the connectivity of the failed node. The simulation results indicate that the proposed DWCR method outperforms the recovery through inward motion (RIM) method and other methods in terms of minimizing the total moving distance, the number of relocated nodes, and the total messages sent. However, because the RIM algorithm requires the relocation of more nodes during the network process, the DWCR algorithm is slightly inferior to the RIM algorithm in terms of coverage loss rate. Nevertheless, the DWCR algorithm still outperforms the distributed actor recovery algorithm and the distributed autonomous connectivity restoration method based on finite state machine algorithm. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

Stunting in toddlers is a chronic nutritional issue that affects the physical and cognitive development of children, with serious long-term consequences such as reduced cognitive function and an increased risk of chronic diseases in adulthood. Therefore, early identification and prevention efforts for stunting are crucial. Classifying toddlers into categories of at-risk for stunting or not is essential to provide timely and appropriate interventions. This study employs data mining techniques using the decision tree algorithm to expedite the stunting detection process and improve the accuracy of nutritional status classification in children. The results indicate that the constructed decision tree model can classify children's nutritional status with an accuracy of 83.26%. The decision tree achieves high accuracy in classifying stunting in toddlers due to its ability to handle complex data and identify significant patterns within the data. © 2024 IEEE.

Skin pathologies encompass a spectrum of conditions, with malignancies such as melanoma representing a critical diagnostic urgency. This investigation delineates the deployment of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for the classification of dermatological anomalies, benchmarking CNN diagnostic fidelity against dermatological expert evaluations. The study underscores the efficacy of CNN classifiers in expediting the diagnostic workflow for various cutaneous disorders. Advocating for an automated diagnostic framework, the research introduces a CNN-based system aimed at reducing human diagnostic load, accelerating diagnostic timelines, and enhancing survival outcomes. Utilizing advanced image processing algorithms and deep learning architectures, the research presents an automated classification system for skin pathologies, addressing both benign and malignant presentations. The classification matrix includes nine dermatological conditions: actinic keratosis, basal cell carcinoma, benign keratosis, dermatofibroma, melanoma, nevus, seborrheic keratosis, squamous cell carcinoma, and vascular lesions. The objective is to engineer a CNN model with robust diagnostic performance across a diverse lesion dataset, ensuring accurate identification and categorization of dermatological conditions. © 2024 IEEE.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and marketing have transformed consumer behavior and shopping experiences, especially through Recommender Systems (RSs) in e-commerce. RSs use algorithms to provide personalized recommendations, enhancing shopping convenience. However, this raises data privacy and ethical concerns, as RSs rely on user data. This research explores the quality determinants of RSs and their impact on consumer behavior, focusing on privacy awareness and its effect on repurchase intentions. Using a qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews, the study targets Indonesian respondents aged 18-40 with e-commerce experience. Findings reveal that recommendation quality, especially self-reference and vividness, significantly influences purchasing decisions. Respondents prefer recommendations that match their preferences and are visually appealing. Positive shopping experiences are linked to efficient and accurate RSs, but there's a need for improvements in transparency, novelty, diversity, and advanced technologies like AR. Respondents are aware of digital data storage but have limited understanding of privacy concerns. They trust e-commerce platforms with basic personal details but are hesitant to share sensitive information. Despite privacy issues, e-commerce remains vital, with respondents emphasizing the need for transparency, robust security, and clear explanations for data use to maintain trust. Addressing these issues not only enhances customer experience but also demonstrates that consumer trust directly impacts the sustainability and success of the business. © 2024 IEEE.

This research aims to build a mathematical model to formulate the problems of implementing knowledge management systems in companies that often face obstacles in achieving the desired objectives and goals. With increasing competition in the business sector, organizations or organizations realize the importance of utilizing the knowledge assets that reside in each individual and organization. If this knowledge can be managed optimally, it can become a competitive advantage for the company due to the emergence of innovative ideas by the concepts of knowledge management theory. By implementing optimal knowledge management (KM), companies can design innovative solutions to improve business operations and increase overall revenue. The factor analysis method will be used to find the determining factors for the success of the implementation of knowledge management systems (KMS) and the regression analysis method will also be used to form a mathematical model of several new factors which are formed as independent variables with the current level of community understanding of KMS as the dependent variable. The research results provide insight into strategies to improve success factors to successfully facilitate KMS implementation. This study contributes to existing knowledge management by providing insight into dynamics that go beyond the technical aspects of KMS, ultimately developing strategies for more effective and efficient utilization of knowledge and organizational growth and supporting competitive advantage for companies. © 2024 IEEE.

The field of dermatology faces considerable challenges when it comes to early detection of skin cancer. Our study focused on using different datasets, including original data, augmented data, and SMOTE oversampled data, to identify skin cancer. Our dataset consisted of images of skin lesions from the MNIST Skin Cancer dataset (HAM 10000), including samples of both cancerous and benign cases in the dataset. We employed data augmentation to expand the dataset's size and increase the diversity of skin lesion features. Furthermore, to tackle class imbalance in the dataset, we applied the SMOTE oversampling technique to generate synthetic samples for the under-represented group. With the original, augmented, and SMOTE oversampled datasets, we trained a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model. The performance of the model was evaluated using accuracy, recall, precision, and F1-score. The comparison between the results obtained from the original data, augmented data, and SMOTE oversampling data clearly revealed distinctions in performance. Our findings clearly demonstrate that employing data augmentation and SMOTE oversampling can significantly enhance the efficacy of skin cancer detection. © 2023 IEEE.

Indonesian MSMEs in 2022 will begin to enter the transformational recovery phase. Various preparations must be made in order to adapt. One that has been done is to increase the number of MSMEs entering the digital ecosystem, such as the MSME marketplace. The MSME Marketplace is used for marketing various MSME products online. The MSME Marketplace must be supported by methods that are able to provide good and fast personal services, considering the types and variety of products offered are increasing in number and varying from time to time. Therefore, this study proposes the Porat_Rank method to produce product recommendations that match user interests quickly so that users are served well. The experimental results show that the Porat_Rank method is superior to the Copelan Score method both in producing recommendations and in processing speed. © 2022 IEEE.

Flexible job shop scheduling (FJSP) has garnered enormous attention within the realm of smart manufacturing, where, beyond job sequencing, the selection of machines holds considerable importance. As smart factories progress with the Internet of things (IoT) and cyber-physical systems (CPS), scheduling methodologies are advancing towards intelligent decentralization. However, with the expansion of factories, conventional cloud computing struggles to manage the substantial influx of data. To tackle this issue, this work incorporates a fog computing and edge computing framework into the distributed FJSP workstations. In this framework, the workstations each of which consists of multiple machines are categorized based on the different nature of the accommodated machines, and operate independently to reduce unnecessary information transmission, in which each machine is equipped with edge computing capacity. The fusion of fog computing and edge computing allows for the offloading of computational tasks from cloud computing, effectively reducing latency. While previous solutions for FJSP have predominantly relied on linear programming or metaheuristic algorithms, this work proposed a novel distributed approach based on a dual deep Q networks (dual DQN) architecture, integrating deep learning (DL) with reinforcement learning (RL). Within the cloud center, the initial neural network determines the machine selection rules for fog computing, while the secondary neural network decides the job dispatching rules for edge computing devices. Edge computing devices execute the schedule and provide feedback to the cloud, which refines the results through an iterative training process, so that to minimize the makespan. The experimental findings indicate that employing dual DQNs outperforms the methods of utilizing only one single machine selection rule. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.
