The epoxy composites with high thermal conductivity for metal-core printed circuit board(MCPCB) can be prepared by varnish coating and a hot press method. Alumina filler of plate-like shape was used as primary micro-filler, while plate-like alumina filler, h-BN, a-BN and s-BN filler were used for blending into the plate-like alumina filler as the secondary filler. Results showed that the secondary fillers a-BN and s-BN loaded epoxy composites have higher thermal conductivity than alumina filler single-loaded composites. Also, BN filler has high thermal conductivity, but h-BN filled epoxy composite has lower thermal conductivity than alumina filled epoxy composite. The decrease of voids in epoxy composite are very important, and the filler shape and surface modification is also necessary to achieve high thermal conductivity in epoxy composite for MCPCB

Kevlar fiber are artifical fibers that have been globally commonly used due to their attributes of a high modulus, a low elongation, an impact resistance, a chemical resistance, and thermostability. Therefore, this study proposes nonwoven geotextiles by corporating with recycled Kevlar unidirectoinal selvage with a low production cost, crimped polyester(PET) fibers, and low-melting-point PET(LPET) fibers. The content of LPET fiber is specified as 20 wt%, while the content of Kevlar fiber varies as 0 wt%, 5 wt%, 10 wt%, 15 wt%, and 20 wt%. The optimal tear strength of 195 N occurs with a content of Kevlar fiber being 20 wt%.

Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) represents a growing source of potentially valuable data for many applications, including land cover map validation. It is still an emerging field and many different approaches can be used to take value from VGI, but also many pros and cons are related to its use. Therefore, since it is timely to get an overview of the subject, the aim of this article is to review the use of VGI as reference data for land cover map validation. The main platforms and types of VGI that are used and that are potentially useful are analysed. Since quality is a fundamental issue in map validation, the quality procedures used by the platforms that collect VGI to increase and control data quality are reviewed and a framework for addressing VGI quality assessment is proposed. A review of cases where VGI was used as an additional data source to assist in map validation is made, as well as cases where only VGI was used, indicating the procedures used to assess VGI quality and fitness for use. A discussion and some conclusions are drawn on best practices, future potential and the challenges of the use of VGI for land cover map validation. © 2015 Taylor & Francis.

We examine the efficiency of the Major League Baseball over-under betting market. Previous research in this area was unable to correctly test market efficiency because a data-set including the odds at which wagers were placed was unavailable. Using a data-set that includes both run lines and money lines, we find little evidence that the over-under market is inefficient. © 2014 © 2014 Taylor & Francis.

A construction project in the public sector has additional complexity due to the number of disciplines and stakeholders with individual interests and different ways of expressing and interpreting information. The approach of collaboration helps to define common goals and commitment between the parties, and the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) acts as the support structure for relationships due to its characteristics to support communication, graphical representations and project development. This paper aims to apply a collaboration model supported by ICT in a building and infrastructure design process related to the public sector, listing the reasons why the parties collaborate and cooperate, the necessary structure and the ICT aspects that can provide support. The research method is exploratory in a case study fashion which consisted of a theoretical research to define the initial collaboration model framework adaptation and the field study to validate it. The case study was developed in a City Hall in the South of Brazil. The results present opportunities for reflection about the collaborative management of public projects and confirm that organizational and behavioral aspects are relevant to better understand the improvements generated by ICT use by public building design teams. © ASCE 2014.

The aim of this study is to use touch-screen computer tablet technology (e.g. iPAD) and its interactive flight console capabilities (e.g. touch screen 'sliders') as an improved method to stakeholder-driven climate change adaptation research. Climate change vulnerability and adaptation have strong human dimensions meaning that the experiences of stakeholders often plays an important role when assessing adaptation options and/or the determinants of adaptive capacity. Methods such as Bayesian belief networks (BBNs) can draw upon the extensive knowledge and beliefs of stakeholders in a straightforward manner yet are underpinned by a robust mathematical framework (i.e. Bayes theory). This is critically important for advancing climate change adaptation research and policy adoption. This project is borne out by the observed difficulty that stakeholders have, at times, displayed when assigning conditional probabilities to BBNs. This methodological step is recognised as the most difficult challenge when developing these knowledge-based models. In response to this, we have developed a computer tablet application (through the App2Adapt project), tailored specifically to improve elicitation of stakeholder-generated conditional probabilities. This app has been developed based on the experiences of the research team and through field-testing at different stages of the design process, including application to a real-world example. The development of this app and usage of this rapidly emerging technology in stakeholder engagement process will lead to significant improvement of using BBNs as a methodological approach to climate change adaptation research.
