Software defined networking (SDN) is an emerging approach to handle data forwarding and control separately. The notion of programmability has central importance in SDN. Two implementation strategies; proprietary and open source, are shaping the trends of the adoptability of SDN by major hardware manufacturers. A group of leading vendors believes that loose coupling between the logical and physical layers of a network hinders the proper provision of physical resources and suggests a proprietary fix to this problem. The other group regards the notion of openness as s key feature of SDN. This paper compares and contrasts these two implementation strategies of SDN by identifying their respective operating principles, features of the product lines, and weakness and strengths.

The problem of retraining large numbers of war workers for peacetime pursuits confronts many industries today. During the war when industry was faced with the reverse problem, conversion to wartime production, the Federal Government provided aid through the engineeringscience and management War Training program under which war plant employees might take advantage of short technical courses offered by co-operating educational institutions throughout the United States. In the hope that industries reconverting to peacetime production might profit through similar methods, this article offers a survey of the University of California's experience with the war training program.

The global shift towards renewable energy is manifested in developing countries such as Ethiopia primarily because of continuous economic growth in the last two decades and secondly due to the vast untapped potential resources. In addition to other factors, the lack of accurate data of the resources has, however, hampered the development of solar energy technologies. The aim of this paper is to investigate the resource estimation by undertaking direct measurements at selected sites in the Northern part of Ethiopia. This paper presents an assessment of the solar energy resource based on the primary data collected between January 2011 and December 2012. The daily and monthly average global solar radiation is analyzed based on the 10 minute interval measurement retrieved from the data loggers. From the analysis it is seen that the measured values give a better accuracy and distribution of the global solar radiation than earlier Fig.s that were based on satellite images and model calculations. Furthermore, these results can be used to determine the solar resource potential of Northern Ethiopia for further energy development.
