A new algorithm for predicting building rooftop displacements in individual aerial photos utilizing the lens location at the time of photographing and the 3D coordinates of rooftops is proposed in this paper. Based on camera calibration and mathematical relationships, the algorithm will be implemented through unprocessed 1 foot resolution aerial photographs and an approximated rooftop model. Knowing the lens location at data acquisition, the camera calibration, and the 3D rooftop corner coordinates, the original 3D coordinates of the rooftops can be mathematically projected onto the 2D individual photo coordinates. By overlaying the projected rooftops over unprocessed photos, the algorithm will be evaluated. This algorithm can be used for evaluation of existing 3D rooftop models or object-based change detection, such as those used in individual building damage assessment after an earthquake or hurricane.

Organizations that have adopted the principles of the Six Sigma methodology have become aware that once they have achieved the five sigma quality levels, the only way to progress further is to redesign their products or processes. This has led to the development of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS). Recently, DFSS has gained much popularity due to the widespread application of Six Sigma principles, particularly in new product development. This research employs the systematic view of the DFSS process and combines it with quality tools to improve the design quality of Original Design Manufacture (ODM) electronic products. A wireless communication company applying the DFSS methodology was analyzed, and an index of one-Year Return Rate (YRR) from TL 9000 Quality management System Requirements of the worldwide telecommunication industry was used to evaluate the measurable effect of product design quality. The average YRR result of an ODM product group employing the DFSS process was observed to be better than an Original Equipment Manufacture (OEM) product group without the DFSS process. Furthermore, its relative value can be improved up to 25 times or 1.12 sigma. By applying the DFSS methodology, the demands of customers can be further satisfied, and the specific needs of the customer are fulfilled.

According to a study conducted by J. D. Angrist (MIT) and colleagues1 involving 1,600 students at a large Canadian university (the equivalent of an American state university with heavily subsidized tuition), the combination of participation in (a) a scholarship program and (b) academic support services resulted in higher grade achievement and retention for females (but both males and females used support services and peer advising at higher rates), compared to groups of students who participated in either (a) or (b) but not both. A report by the Educational Policy Institute2 lists financial aid as one critical factor that affects the decision to pursue a college degree and success in degree attainment for minorities. This paper reports the progress of a persistence-to-graduation scholarship program funded under the National science Foundation Scholarships (NSF) in science, Technology, engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM) program. We named our program YES (Young Entrepreneur and Scholar) scholarship program. The goal of YES is to enable academically talented, financially needy students to enter the workforce (Entrepreneurship Path) or to pursue a graduate degree (Research Path) following the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a targeted STEM discipline. This goal is facilitated through scholarships offered by the program to qualified student participants in the last two college years (maturing years - juniors and seniors), a mentorship program (faculty and industry mentors), and enhanced educational opportunities (Distinguished Speaker seminar series, Symposium, learning community). The program continues the efforts of and recruits from another NSF-funded program, science, Technology, engineering, and Mathematics Talent Expansion (STEP) program, which focuses on the first two student college years (early years- freshman and sophomore) and has been successful in retaining STEM students at significantly higher rates than academically similar STEM students at the
