The paper focuses on the improvements to engineered features of a passive technology that has been used for remediation of acid rock drainage (ARD). This passive remedial technology, a sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) bioreactor, takes advantage of the ability of SRB that, if supplied with a source of organic carbon, can increase pH and alkalinity of the water and immobilize metals by precipitating them as metal sulfides or hydroxides. The remoteness of ARD sites and their abundance require that the design of an SRB bioreactor be simple and inexpensive. Therefore, bioreactors need to be designed to a size that allows for transportation using primitive roads. To satisfy these requirements a design for a modular treatment system was developed using reactive cartridges (RC) that are prefabricated as 2.44-meter diameter vessels. The RC has been designed so it supports the prime functional aspects of a bioreactor such as high permeability, ample supply of organic carbon, ability to maintain anaerobic conditions, and capacity to accumulate precipitated metals and means for their periodical removal, as needed. In addition, the configuration of the RC allows for an easy replacement of the organic carbon. The RCs can be transported to an ARD site and assembled into a treatment system with a number of modules as required by the ARD flow rate and the metals load. A bioreactor system consisting of four RCs will be installed at an abandoned mine site with ARD of pH 5 or lower and a significant load of metals. The process of site selection is in progress. The RC design was developed by the Mine Waste Technology program (MWTP) at MSE Technology Applications (MSE), Butte, Montana, USA. The work was funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and was jointly administered by the EPA and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory and performed at the Western Environmental Technology Office under DOE contract number DE-AC09-96EW96405.

This paper presents the tracking algorithms developed for a multisensor anti-collision system for unmanned aerial vehicles. This system will be developed by the Italian Aerospace Research Center (CIRA) within a research project named TECVOL, funded in the frame of the National Aerospace Research program (PRO.R.A.) on UAV. The hardware setup is composed by a pulsed radar, two infrared cameras, and two visible cameras used as aiding sensors, thus the adoption of a fusion algorithm was mandatory to obtain the most accurate and reliable tracking estimate of obstacles. The paper describes the different modes and the relevant attainable performances of the developed tracking algorithm. The adopted data fusion technique for tracking is the Kalman filter. In particular, three different algorithms are compared in a typical collision scenario, namely conventional filter in rectangular coordinates, conventional filter in spherical coordinates, and extended filter in rectangular coordinates. Though all the three algorithms exhibited satisfying performances, the extended filter in rectangular coordinates resulted the most adequate for this airborne application

We have utilized ZnCl 2 -dimethylsulfone (DMSO 2 ) as the electrolyte with added CoCl 2 and GdCl 3 for electrodepositing a magnetic film. Moreover, the controlled potential method was utilized for film deposition. The voltammogram revealed that the reduction of Co-Zn-Gd film can be achieved by applying a potential in the range from -0.1 to -0.5 volts. From the results of AGM analyses, a high squareness value (Mr/Ms = 0.923) of the Co-Zn-Gd film at -0.3 volt was observed. In previous research, perpendicular magnetic materials have been applied to magnetic optic (MO) media, magnetic recording heads, and perpendicular magnetic tunneling junction (pMTJ). However, preparation of magnetic materials is normally carried out in high vacuum systems. Since electrodeposition methods for preparation of magnetic films have several advantages, such as simple equipment, ease of operation and relatively large area, the use of electrodeposition has great potential for preparing films.

This subject, Urban Wet-Weather Flows, is comprised of three basic subareas - combined-sewer overflows (CSOs), sanitary-sewer overflows (SSOs), and stormwater discharges. Major proceedings related to wet-weather flow (WWF) published during 2005 were the following: (1) WEFTEC 2005, 78th Annual Conference and Exposition (WEF, 2005);(2) Effective Modeling of Urban Stormwater Systems, Monograph 13 (CHI, 2005);and (3) 2005 Watershed management Conference - Managing Watersheds for Human and Natural Impacts (EWRI, 2005). In addition to the conferences listed above, the 2005 Annual Conference of the American Water Resources Association, EWRI's World Environment and Water Resources Congress the 10thInternational Conference on Urban Drainage had significant sessions on wet-weather flows. In addition, many regional conferences also had significant sessions on wet-weather flow issues, such as the 2005 Pennsylvania Stormwater management Symposium. Cleveland has over 20 years of experience in the planning and management of a wide variety of functions including business process reengineering and IT security.

The engineering Games at UnicenP began in 1999 and, in 2004, the 6 th edition had the participation of approximately 600 students, freshmen and sophomore, from the Civil, Computer, Electric and Mechanical engineering programs at Centro Universitário Positivo. In the last two editions of the games there has been a change in the format, with the students now being made responsible for the acquisition of the materials to be employed in the games. This is now possible due to advanced announcement of team composition, which gives the students enough time to contact fellow team members and get organized prior to engineering Games day. The new format has helped improve team organization, and also made the games easier to set up, since more time can be devoted by the faculty to task creation and evaluation as opposed to the former assemblage of kits of materials to be handed to the teams. © 2005 IEEE.

The Internet has become an important medium for effective marketing and efficient operations for many institutions. Visitors of a particular web site leave behind valuable information on their preferences, requirements, and demands regarding the offered products and/or services. Understanding these requirements online, i.e., during a particular visit, is both a difficult technical challenge and a tremendous business opportunity. Web sites that can provide effective online navigation suggestions to their visitors can exploit the potential inherent in the data such visits generate every day. However, identifying, collecting, and maintaining the necessary knowledge that navigation suggestions are based on is far from trivial. We propose a methodology for acquiring and maintaining this knowledge efficiently using data mart and web mining technology. Its effectiveness has been shown in an application for a bank's web site. AIRPET, an Asian regional air pollution research network, which is coordinated by the Asian Institute of Technology, involves six cities: Bandung, Bangkok, Beijing, Chennai, Manila, and Hanoi. One of the objectives of the network is to provide a comprehensive assessment of particulate matter (PM) air quality though monitoring and receptor modeling tools jointly by six research teams in these cities. The results within the scope of this monitoring and modeling objective in phase 1 (2001-2003) were presented. In total, the network collected over 2500 PM2.5 and PM10 samples from characteristic urban sites. In all these cities the levels of PM10 and PM2.5 were found high especially during the dry season which the frequently exceeded the EPA standard for PM10 and PM2.5, especially at the traffic sites. Traffic had the highest PM2.5 contribution in most cities with the exceptional high share (> 70%) in Manila. Traffic and coal combustion had high contribution in Beijing while NaNO3 was found high in Hanoi. Development in sensitive watersheds continues to pose environmental problems for receiving waters. One contributor to the long-term pollution of sensitive waterways is building and construction materials. However, the long-term effect of many building materials on the environment has not been quantified. Prior testing of these materials in the laboratory has indicated that the potential for release (primarily nutrients, lighter hydrocarbons, pesticides, and metals) is significant. Additional testing for metals' release from aged roofing panels also has shown that the potential for pollutant release still exists after 60 years of exposure to the environment. The data that is missing from a complete evaluation of specific building materials is behavior over the lifespan of the material, including the critical period of initial exposure. This paper provides an overview of the limited literature available on the subject, results from laboratory testing of common building materials and aged roofing panels, and an overview of the next phase of needed research.
