With the recent rise of China, Chinese is becoming a dominant language in the world. People are pursuing an efficient and effective means to learn the Chinese language. Most of the traditional learning platforms such as textbooks, laptop applications and language learning centers are not portable and interactive simultaneously. In this paper, we attempt to develop a new language-learning platform that not only creates a better user experience but also promotes better efficiency in language training. We present a mobile application named HuayuNavi that integrates a touch-based user interface with intelligent character recognition techniques to achieve real-time image content understanding. specifically, the feature vector is formed by accumulating localized gradients of different orientations in the image. Recognition is achieved by employing support vector machine (sVM) with probability estimation to obtain candidate characters, which is then refined using domain-specific vocabulary models. The overall operation can be completed in 3 seconds. Initial tests on the specific subject of Taiwanese snacks indicate that the recognition rate can reach 83% using handwritten samples as well as signboards containing characters of diverse fonts. © 2011 springer-Verlag.

Current open-source applications which allow for cross-platform data visualization of OLAP cubes feature issues of high overhead and inconsistency due to data oversimplification. To improve upon this issue, there is a need to cut down the number of pipelines that the data must travel between for these aggregation operations and create a single, unified application which performs efficiently without sacrificing data, and allows for ease of usability and extension. © 2021, CC BY.

Motivations for game playing have always been an important topic for research. Through understanding these motivations, game manufacturers develop games based on specific demand. The smartphone combines different technology and sensors which causes the motivation for game playing to become more complicated. The goal of this study is to discover the reason for game playing on smartphones through understanding both the intrinsic and extrinsic motivations of the motivation theories. Furthermore, it hopes to determine which motivation has a deeper impact on players in general. © 2011 springer-Verlag.

Anatomy learning is very important for many courses, and it requires understanding three-dimensional (3D) shapes, most forms of anatomy teaching are offered to students through two-dimensional (2D) resources, such as images and videos. Many software solutions were developed with the purpose of assisting anatomy teaching and learning, arranging varied techniques and assets, as interaction and visualization of 3D virtual models. Despite great features, these solutions lack standards utilization and pedagogical methodology. This paper aims to present a 3D content generation technique to Moodle, one of the most popular platforms for teaching and learning management, built upon a specific pedagogical methodology, and validated by educational experts. The standard used in this technique allow sharing and reuse of content not only among Moodle systems, which are used by a large number of educational institutions and professors but also in other Virtual Learning Environments. © 2016 IEEE.

This paper presents a neural networks based traffic light controller for urban traffic road intersection called EOM-ANN Controller (Environment Observation Method based on Artificial Neural Networks Controller). EOM is a very interesting mathematical method for determining traffic lights timing. However, this method has some implications which artificial neural networks were proposed to improve such problems. To evaluate the proposed traffic control system, an isolated intersection was built in simulation software named sUMO (simulation of Urban Mobility).

In real world applications of multiclass classification models, misclassification in an important class (e.g., stop sign) can be significantly more harmful than in other classes (e.g., no parking). Thus, it is crucial to improve the recall of an important class while maintaining overall accuracy. For this problem, we found that improving the separation of important classes relative to other classes in the feature space is effective. Existing methods that give a class-sensitive penalty for cross-entropy loss do not improve the separation. Moreover, the methods designed to improve separations between all classes are unsuitable for our purpose because they do not consider the important classes. To achieve the separation, we propose a loss function that explicitly gives loss for the feature space, called class-sensitive additive angular margin (CAMRI) loss. CAMRI loss is expected to reduce the variance of an important class due to the addition of a penalty to the angle between the important class features and the corresponding weight vectors in the feature space. In addition, concentrating the penalty on only the important class hardly sacrifices separating the other classes. Experiments on CIFAR-10, GTsRB, and AwA2 showed that CAMRI loss could improve the recall of a specific class without sacrificing accuracy. In particular, compared with GTsRB's second-worst class recall when trained with cross-entropy loss, CAMRI loss improved recall by 9%. © 2023 The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers.

IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force) proposed the management mechanism of NEMO (network mobility) to support network mobility. The mobility management of NEMO is an extension of mobile IPv6 (MIPv6), and it inherits also all the drawbacks of MIPv6 such as inefficient routing, high handover latency, packet loss rate, and so on. The purpose of method which is based on the public transportations (e.g. Train, MRT, Bus etc.) with fixed path as NEMO application solved the handover latency problem and packet lost problem. We propose a seamless handover scheme with pre-registration to solve these problems. The proposed handover scheme can decrease handover latency and packet lost in session for NEMO. The aim is to procure seamless communication when the whole network is movement.

Matrix factorization (MF) technique has been widely utilized in recommendation systems due to the precise prediction of users' interests. Prior MF-based methods adapt the overall rating to make the recommendation by extracting latent factors from users and items. However, in real applications, people's preferences usually vary with time;the traditional MF-based methods could not properly capture the change of users' interests. In this paper, by incorporating the recurrent neural network (RNN) into MF, we develop a novel recommendation system, M-RNN-F, to effectively describe the preference evolution of users over time. A learning model is proposed to capture the evolution pattern and predict the user preference in the future. The experimental results show that M-RNN-F performs better than other state-of-the-art recommendation algorithms. In addition, we conduct the experiments on real world dataset to demonstrate the practicability. © 2019 IEEE.
