U.S. NAVY has served in the U.S. Navy since 1942 starting as an enlisted man in the Destroyer Forces Atlantic Fleet prior to entry into the U.S. Naval Academy in 1944. He graduated in 1948 and served in the Amphibious Forces U.S. Pacific Fleet on attack troop transports until 1951 when he entered the Navy's Postgraduate Training Program. Concurrently in 1953. he received a Master of Science Degree in Naval Architecture from Webb Institute of Naval Architecture and entered the ranks of the “Engineering Duty Officers” assigned to the Naval Ship Systems Command (formerly the Bureau of Ships) Department of the Navy. He has served on the waterfront in Naval Shipyards in supervisory positions on new construction conversion repair and dry-docking of ships ranging from minesweepers to attack aircraft carriers. Other duty includes tours in Supervisor of Shipbuilding Jacksonville Florida the Material Section of Mine Forces Pacific Fleet the Engineering Department of the U.S.S. RANDOLPH (CVS 15) Project Coordinator for Aircraft Carrier Design in the Bureau of Ships and Industrial Officer of the David Taylor Model Basin. He is currently the Fleet Maintenance Officer on the Staff Commander in Chief U.S. Naval Forces Europe.

MOORE (DD-747) as Engineering Officer and USS CIMARRON (AO 22) as First Lieutenant and Gunnery Officer. After a short tour as Ship Superintendent Long Beach Shipyard he attended Webb Institute of Naval Architecture for three years while studying Naval Construction and Engineering. After receipt of a Master of Science in Naval Architecture degree he was designated an Engineering Duty Officer (EDO) and assigned to duty at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard. While there he served in billets of Assistant Repair Superintendent and Assistant Planning and Estimating Superintendent and as such was primarily concerned with the repair and conversion of U. S. naval surface ships. After two years at Long Beach he was ordered to duty as Staff Maintenance Officer Commander Mine Force U. S. Pacific Fleet. He then served as an instructor in the Engineering Department of the U. S. Naval Academy during which time he was awarded an M. S. in Financial Management from George Washington University. He is currently studying in a PhD program at Catholic University Washington D. C.

He is a member of Tau Beta Pi the National Engineering Honor Society Pi Tau Sigma the National Mechanical Engineering Honor Fraternity and the ASME the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Mr. Barnett has been a civilian employee of the Navy Department since 1967 and is currently employed as a navigation systems engineer at the Naval Air Development Center Warminster Pa. For the past nine years Mr. Barnett has specialized in and has been technically responsible for the development of ship and submarine speed sensors for U.S. Navy Fleet applications. Samuel H. Cheney:holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from Drexel University Philadelphia Pa. June 1974 where he specialized in electronics and communications. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Mr. Cheney is currently employed as an Electronics Engineer at the Naval Air Development Center (NAVAIRDEVCEN) Warminster Pa. where he is currently assigned as Project Engineer for the High Speed Velocity Log Program prior to coming to NAVAIRDEVCEN in September 1977 he was employed by the Department of the Army Frankford Arsenal where he was involved in development of electronic fire control systems.

作者: JACKsON, LAURENCE L. The author was commissioned in the U. S. Navy 6 June 1945 upon being graduated from the U. S. Naval Academy Annapolis Maryland. He served in various submarines until June 1951 when he was ordered to V. S. Naval Postgraduate School Monterey California. From there in 1954 having been awarded a Master of Science Degree Naval Engineering (Electrical) he reported for duty on a submarine then on a submarine squadron staff. In 1957 he began a three-year tour at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. It was during this tour that he was selected to be an Engineering Duty Officer. From 1960 to 1962 Commander Jackson served at David Taylor Model Basin specializing in submarine RDT and E programs. During this tour he was awarded the Secretary of the Navy Commendation for Special Achievement. At present Commander Jackson is in the Ship Design Division of the Bureau of Ships serving as Submarine Program Officer for Hull Design. Commander Jackson is a member of the American Society of Naval Engineers. He has previously published an article in theJournalof the Societyof NavalEngineers(the predecessor of theNavalEngineersJournal)entitled “Submarine FRAM Program What and Why” May 1960.

Mansour an Associate Professor in the Department of Ocean Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cairo in 1958 and his M.E. and Ph.D. degrees in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1962 and 1966 respectively. He has had field experience and design responsibilities for about six years in the Suez Canal Authority John J. McMullen Associates Inc. and M. Rosenblatt and Son Inc. and has been with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for the past four years. During this period he contributed several technical papers and reports in the areas of structural mechanics sea loads finite element analysis of marine structures and probabilistic structural mechanics. He has been a consultant for several companies and organizations is a member of Sigma Xi and SNAME currently serving as a member of the latter's Stress Analysis and Strength of Structural Elements Panel. USN Lieutenant Commander Paul H. Fenton USN a 1964 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy recently completed a graduate education program at M.I.T. in the field of Naval Construction and Engineering earning two degrees: Ocean Engineer and Master of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. He is presently assigned to the Charleston Naval Shipyard Charleston South Carolina and has had previous duty in the U.S.S. STICKELL (DD 888) and with the Naval Support Activity Saigon.
