silicon has been known as the next generation anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to its high theoretical specific capacity (4200 mA h g'1). However silicon anodes face the challenge of large volume change over 400 % during lithiation/delithiation cycles, leading to the pulverization of the silicon based electrodes. In this study, radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering is used to deposit amorphous silicon thin films on nickel foam current collectors. This flexible three-dimensional structure is found to relieve stress caused by the volume expansion. Furthermore, siO, is coated on the previously fabricated silicon anodes as a buffer layer. The oxygen contents and the thickness of the siO, are controlled by depositing under different Ar/02 ratios, and depositing times. The electrochemical behaviors of the siO,/si/nickel foam electrodes toward lithium are studied. It is found that the siO,/si/nickel foam electrodes with optimized oxygen contents and thickness of siO, films exhibit high cycling stability and coulombic efficiency. The results are attributed to the stress relaxation effect provided by the flexible nickel foams and the siO, buffer layers. © 2018 Electrochemical society Inc. All Rights Reserved.

sizing the navy's strategic reserve of ozone-depleting substances

Breslin P.E. is the Director of Technical Operations for the Naval Surface Warfare Center and is the Chairperson of ASNE'S Committee on Environmental Engineering. He received a master of science degree in aerospace engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI) a master of engineering administration degree in industrial and systems engineering from VPI and a bachelor of engineering degree in mechanical engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology. From 1993 to 1997 he was the program manager of the Naval Sea Systems Command'S CFC & Halon Elimination Program and played a critical role in establishing the Navy'S strategic reserve of ozone-depleting substances. Because of his many efforts he received a Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award in 1995 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in recognition of “exceptional contributions to global environmental protection”.

The domestic production of the most powerful Ozone-Depleting substances (ODss) has permanently ceased and the abundant supplies of a number of refrigerants, fire-fighting agents, and solvents, once taken for granted, are now a thing of the past. ne Navy has adopted a successful strategy for addressing the threat posed by the unavailability of ODss. That strategy includes relying on a strategic reserve of ODss. Considering that the strategic reserve will play a critical role in sustained fleet operations well into the next century, it is important to record the history of the reserve and to document lessons learned in order to educate future generations that may be faced with similar challenges. This is the second of three papers that will cover all aspects of the Navy's strategic reserve of ODss. The first paper documented the history of the Navy's effort to size, establish, and monitor a reserve designed to support fleet operations until-the middle of the next century (1). This paper addresses in detail the process used to estimate the required size of the reserve, including the survey method, statistical analyses, and sizing algorithms. The third paper will discuss the development of the plan for monitoring the reserve including the control mechanisms, regression methods, and statistical-process-control techniques (2).

Clustering is a typical unsupervised learning method for classifying unsupervised data. One of the clustering meth-ods, even-sized clustering based on optimization (ECBO), is a clustering algorithm that imposes a constraint to equalize the size of each cluster. ECBO has been suggested to be effective in delivery and other problems. However, it is limited to Euclidean space. On the other hand, spectral clustering with a wide range of applicability for partitioning graph data has been proposed. In this paper, we propose even-sized spectral clustering, which imposes a size-equal constraint on spectral clustering, and show that it is an extension of the graph partitioning problem. We also verify the validity of the results through numerical examples. © 2024 IEEE.

This study was studied in optimal operation in 60 L pilot-scale biohydrogen reactor with substrate concentration 20, 30, 40 g total sugar/L, and hydraulic retention time 8, 6, 4, 2, 1 h, respectively. The hydrogen production rate (HPR) of 19.5 L/L/d, hydrogen production yield (HY) of 1.75 mole H2/mole hexose and sugar utilization of 97% were obtained when the substrate concentration of 33 g total sugar/L and HRT of 8 h, respectively. When HRT from 8 h to 1 h the HPR increased from 17.2 to 173.7 L/L/d, HY kept around 1.75 mole H2/mole hexose and sugar utilization kept over 90%. It was found that obvious eddy appeared when open ratio of distributor was 0.5% at HRT 1 h. When the open ratio of distributor was 1% a peak of HPR of 46.7 L/L/d and HY of 88.8% were obtained at HRT 2 h. Finally, the orifice pitch and draft liquid velocity has significant effect on hydrogen production rate in biohydrogen fermenter. The uniform flow pattern has better hydrogen production rate by flow regime analysis.

Batu Gede and Batu Kapur are administratively located in subang Regency, West Java, precisely in the northern part of Tangkuban Perahu Geothermal Working Area. Characteristics of the manifestations in Batu Gede and Batu Kapur are generally bicarbonate neutral pH warm springs and their location exposed in the foot of Tangkuban Perahu Volcano. Despite the similar chemical characteristic of those two manifestations, there is a significant characteristic difference between them. spring with low pH with the pungent smell emerges in the Batu Gede not far from neutral pH bicarbonate warm spring. The aim of this research is to determine control of the occurrence and relationship of manifestation in both areas by conducting geological mapping. surface manifestations are controlled by a geological process associated with primary and secondary permeability. Both manifestations emerge dominantly in the control of fault as a secondary permeability. Primary permeability also controls the occurrence of manifestations but not significant. Batu Gede manifestations are dominantly controlled by overstepping structure, while Batu Kapur are dominantly controlled by intersections between structures. Based on high content of sO4-2, acid pH, and the presence of sulfur, the acid manifestation might be correlated with magmatic activity beneath Batu Gede's manifestation. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This study examines lignocellulosic by-products from agriculture and food industry for methane production. Banana peels, cacao bean shells, rice straw, tomato plant residues, and wheat straw underwent steam explosion treatment (sE) at 160 °C and 10 min followed by solid–liquid separation. specific methane yield increased between 8.6 % to 19.6 % for rice and wheat straw and cacao bean shells after sE treatment, while decreasing for banana peels (14.1 %). The liquid phase demonstrated high specific methane yield potential, with sMY between 227 and 336 L CH4 kg ODM −1 . Meanwhile, the fiber-rich solid phase offers potential for both energy applications and material utilization. The process supports both bioeconomic strategies and greenhouse gas reduction efforts through sustainable valorization of agricultural waste streams in circular economy models. However, further research is needed to optimize sE conditions and investigate other applications for the solid such as peat substitution.

Widyaiswara is required to show the best performance to fulfill his duties and obligations. Therefore, it is very important to measure the performance of the Widyaiswara, so that it can be used as evaluation material by the BPsDM PROVsU. However, the assessment process that occurs is still not precise and time-consuming. Therefore, to minimize this, a decision support system is needed that can minimize time errors and data processing in decision-making so that the assessment runs well and accurately. This system was built by applying the WAsPAs method and the TOPsIs method. Based on the results of tests carried out five times, the results of the WAsPAs method processing time resulted in an average processing time of 0.00029791 ms and an average memory usage value of 2.836.44 kb, while the results of the TOPsIs method processing time test resulted in an average processing time - an average of 0.000296428 ms and an average memory usage value of 2.862.34 kb. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper proposes a method to estimate the posture of an athlete moving on a vast field in a sporting event using a pan-tilt-zoom camera. In order to estimate the posture of an athlete on a sports field from a dynamic video sequence, our method extracts image features to search correspondence points among successive frames and computes the homography transformation matrix that compensates for changes the camera parameters (e.g., angle of view and posture). The effectiveness of this method is qualitatively verified using MLB TV broadcast video. The accuracy and error factors are also quantitatively verified by CG simulation. Recently, a method for estimating permittivity distributions was reported. The method combined a numerical technique (Finite Element Method) with Genetic Algorithm (GA). However, methods for estimating the distribution of permittivity have not yet been established. The purpose of this study is to obtain experimental data in order to improve the estimation method. We measured capacitance and electrical potential of plural points when an acrylic rod is placed in various positions within a measurement system. © 2013 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

In wireless body sensor networks, sensors may be installed on various body limbs to wirelessly collect body information for homecare services. The orientations and accelerations on each limb are different for various motion states. For example, each limb has different acceleration when walking versus running, and orientation when standing versus lying. According to the above information, the body motion state may be decided. Furthermore, each person has unique body characteristics such as height, foot pitch, and motion habit to effect the body reconstruction. Therefore, it is a challenging issue how to present human motions through 3D skeleton system simulation, and achieve an adaptive reconstruction of human motion on wireless body sensor networks according to the different body characteristics of each person. In this study, we proposed a novel scheme to utilize multiple triple axis accelerometer and gyroscopes to measure limb accelerations, then calculated the locations of limbs and try to employ kinematic theory to reconstruct human body skeleton, called 3D Adaptive human Motion Reconstruction (AMR). And we applied Body Correction Algorithm (BCA) to correct human body characteristics and filtered the error of transmission noise. This system was tested and validated with success. © 2011 IEEE.
