We have developed an experimental apparatus and confirmed that vibration can be suppressed by applying a caster angle to a caster during high-speed traveling. Public transportation services are declining, especially in highly mountainous areas, causing a reduction in the range of activities and the quality of life. Therefore, micro-mobility is attracting attention. Micro-mobility refers to vehicles that are small and can seat about two people. By applying active-casters to these vehicles, it is expected to improve the range of activities by enabling omnidirectional movement and intuitive operation on narrow roads. The active-caster is effective in terms of durability and vibration reduction because it can move in all directions using normal tires. However, there is concern that the steering axis may oscillate from side to side at short intervals when moving at high speeds with normal tires. Therefore, in this study, we developed an experimental apparatus to verify traveling of the active-caster at high-speed. However, in this case, traveling verification was conducted on a passive caster as a preliminary experiment. As a result, vibration of the steering axis of the caster was confirmed, and it was also confirmed that the caster angle suppressed oscillate at high speed. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to springer Nature switzerland AG 2025.

An immobilized hydrogen-producing consortium investigated biohydrogen production from food waste using a combination of sodium alginate and cassava rhizome biochar. We investigated the effect of varying the biochar concentration from 0 to 3% and the size of immobilized cells from 1 to 7 mm. Immobilized cells were prepared using 50% (v/v) enriched hydrogen-producing consortium, 2% (w/v) sodium alginate, and 0 to 3% (w/v) cassava rhizome biochar. The optimal conditions for achieving the highest hydrogen production in the batch fermentation reactor were identified as a biochar concentration of 2% (w/v) and an immobilized cell size of 2 mm. The highest hydrogen yield, maximum hydrogen production rate, and lag time recorded were 0.69 mmol H2/g-COD, 0.02 mmol H2/g-COD.h, and 41.51 h, respectively. This research highlights the potential of cassava biochar technology for efficient biohydrogen production from food waste, contributing to renewable energy generation and sustainable waste management. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of springer Nature 2024.

Background: This study presents a composite solid fuel upgrading strategy by blending torrefied spent coffee grounds (Ts) into waste starch (Ws) at the weight ratios of 0 wt%, 5 wt%, 20 wt%, and 35 wt%. When the blending ratio of Ts exceeds 35 wt%, Ts-Ws composite fuel fails to pelletize. Blending Ts in Ws contributes to the higher heating value (HHV) and carbon content. Methods: The Taguchi method is utilized to identify the optimal torrefaction conditions for HHV of Ts. The highest HHV of Ts at 300°C (300-TsCG) is 31.76 MJ∙kg−1, which is about 2.08 times that of Ws. The carbon content, HHV, ignition temperature, and combustion reactivity of 35%Ts-Ws composite fuel are 51.15 wt%, 21.06 MJ∙kg−1, 262°C, and 4.6 wt%∙min-1∙°C−1, respectively. Attenuated total reflectance spectrometer, contact angle, hygroscopicity, mildew observation, storability, and water activity of Ts-Ws composite fuel are analyzed, and the storability of Ts-Ws composite fuel is discussed. significant findings: Compared with 0%Ts-Ws, the HHV of 35% Ts-Ws increases 38%, while the carbon content increases by 34%. The mechanical strength of Ts-Ws decreases with the increase of Ts blending amount. The strategy of blending Ts and Ws can significantly reduce the generation of Ws and spent coffee grounds (sCGs) and upgrade the quality of composite solid fuel. Accordingly, Ts-Ws is a promising composite solid fuel that can approach sustainable production of biofuels without compromising commercial viability. © 2024 Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers

The electric energy produced by photovoltaic systems is a function of several variables that present random behavior, such as solar irradiance, ambient temperature, wind speed, and relative humidity. several models describe the energy produced by these systems, which reflect the various factors that influence the generation and how significant these influences are. In this way, the present work aims to compare some panel temperature models and the electrical energy produced from a photovoltaic system located in the Midwest of Brazil. The applied methodology aims to evaluate the expected averages and standard deviations of the monthly synthetic series of generated energy to identify the main random variables that influence the electric generation. The results indicate the model that best describes the physical system concerning the randomness of the variables involved, the photovoltaic technology, the location, and the measurement period. © 2021, European Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, Environment and Power Quality (EA4EPQ). In 2016. die Brazilian Agency of Electric Energy-launched a public call for research and development projects to reduce barriers to implementing energy efficiency projects and own electricity generation. One objective of this public call was to encourage pilot projects at the Brazilian public higher education institutions. In this context, the Federal Institute of Education. science, and technology of Goias has approved the research project, entided "Energy efficiency and mini generation ai the Federal Institute of Education. science, and technology - IFG." The project consists of implementing energy efficiency actions and installing photovoltaic distributed generation (mini generation) in twelve of the fourteen IFG campuses. The main objective of this work is to quantify the C0;emission reductions from die project through the methodologies used by the United Nations Framework Climate Change Convention for projects under the Clean Development Mechanism The emission reductions over the project lifetime was estimated at approximately 37,400 iC’O- equivalent, evidencing the environmental benefit to be provided by the referred project. © 2021, European Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, Environment and Power Quality (EA4EPQ). Currently bioclimatic architecture is booming, it focuses on the design and construction of buildings considering the interrelation with the climate, taking into account the different climatic conditions of each place, region or country, taking advantage of the elements and factors of the climate. The purpose of the study is to determine the areas of cold, comfort and heat throughout the year, for this it is proposed to carry out the Bioclimatic High of the Province of Azuay. To achieve this objective, the statistical analysis of the annual climatological data collected from the meteorological stations located in the province of Azuay was carried out, the data correspond to and belong to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (INAMHI). To analyse the hygrothermal comfort, we proceeded to calculate the averages of maximum and minimum temperatures, as well as the average of the relative humidity of each station under study, these data are condensed in the Biosol software, and applying the Morillón (2004) methodology the diagram of air conditioning isorequirements is obtained where the cold, comfort and heat zones of each station located throughout the territory of the province of Azuay are identified. As a result of this process, monthly maps are obtained, they were prepared through the geographic information system (GIs) Arc GIs. The maps obtained allow different construction professionals such as engineers, architects, urban planners and the general public, to obtain reliable climate information to plan, design and build sustainable projects that respond to the specific climatological and comfort needs of the province of Azuay.

The objective of this study is to analyse the feasibility study of off-grid photovoltaic (PV) system to replace diesel generator in remote areas. sungai Cemara village in Jambi, Indonesia was chosen as a case study to represent a remote area where there is no access to electricity from the main grid. A model is developed using HOMER software to calculate the optimum theoretical power output of PV system as well as PV sizing and arrays. An economic analysis was also performed in this study including the payback period calculation. Results showed that 132 kWp off-grid PV system is able to electrify 105 households in sungai Cemara village with annual load 92.7 MWh. With a payback time period of 13 years, it is proved that installing PV system to replace diesel generator is financially feasible for the village.

Material stocks in long-lived products require over half of the annual global resource extraction for their construction and maintenance, and lock in energy use through their technical and geospatial characteristics. A thorough understanding of material stocks is therefore essential to inform sustainable resource use strategies. However, despite substantial advances in material stock research in recent decades, their robust quantification remains challenging and bears considerable uncertainties. We assess the (dis)agreement of material stock estimates from 32 recent studies across global, national, and urban scales, and propose recommendations for future work. Overall, we observe medium to high divergences between studies estimating the same material stocks. For end-use categories that aggregate multiple material stocks (e.g., buildings), most global-level estimates show divergences within 140 %. At the national level, most estimates for the UsA diverge by <210 %, while those for China by <550 %. At the urban level, most estimates for Beijing fall within 90 %, and for Vienna, within 70 %. For low-income countries, non-residential buildings, and individual materials, the differences are often substantially higher, highlighting the need for an improved scientific basis for policy and planning. These disparities arise from differences in system boundaries, methodology, data sources, definitions, and lack of data to capture the diversity of material stock types. To robustly inform sustainable resource use strategies, the scientific community and practitioners should systematically assess and report sensitivity and uncertainty, and reduce the latter through transparent documentation, model intercomparisons, consensus and open-access databases, enhanced data collection, and comprehensive quantification of material stocks.

solar water heating in homes of low-income families as Energy Efficiency Action enables energetic benefits from points of view of the consumer and the Brazilian electrical system, thereby reducing environmental impacts associated with generation, transmission and distribution of electricity. The purpose of the present study is to evaluate these gains through measurement and verification methodology adapted from the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol, from case studies involving Energy Efficiency Projects in the Goiás state, Brazil. This paper also presents the stochastic modelling for the generation of future scenarios of electricity saving resulted by these Energy Efficiency Projects. The model is developed by using the Geometric Brownian Motion stochastic process with Mean Reversion associated with the Monte Carlo simulation technique. Results show that the electricity saved from the replacement of electric showers by solar water heating systems in homes of low-income families has great potential to bring financial benefits to such families, and that the reduction in peak demand obtained from this Energy Efficiency Action is advantageous to the Brazilian electrical system. Results contemplate also the future scenarios of electricity saving and a sensitivity analysis in order to verify how values of some parameters influence on the results, once there is no historical data available for obtaining these values.

In this paper, we explain how an experiential learning course and study tour to Gansu Province (People’s Republic of China) enabled undergraduates at the singapore Management University (sMU) to acquire 21st-century competencies and higher-order thinking skills by analyzing and evaluating specific aspects of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and China–singapore (Chongqing) Connectivity Initiative — New International Land–sea Trade Corridor (CCI-ILsTC) with emphasis on developing viable Go-To-Market (GTM) strategies aimed at selling Gansu produce in four southeast Asian markets. We share how the course was designed to support the attainment of key learning goals and discuss how we turned pedagogical aspirations into concrete learning outcomes. We introduce key aspects of the so-called “sMU-XO” project that the students conducted in partnership with an industry partner, Pacific International Lines (PIL), and discuss how the project work helped learners to gain global competency by (i) examining critical issues related to BRI such as multi-modal infrastructure connectivity, (ii) appreciating the local perspectives of project stakeholders in Lanzhou and shanghai and (iii) successfully interacting with people from different cultures, namely China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand.
