Economic evaluation of ess applying to demand response management in urban railway system

The aims of the demand response market are stabilization of the power supply and improving of the reliability of the power system. The various applications of the energy storage system (Ess) in the railway systems are studied and implemented to raise the energy efficiency. It is one of the most important how to determine the obligation reduction capacity (ORC) in participation to the demand response market because it has an influence on the profit extremely. In this paper, when participating to the demand response market with demands in the urban railway, we calculated the available ORC and economically evaluated Ess based on the real load data. This paper proposes the optimal operation of Ess (Energy storage system) in the substation of urban railway in an economical point of view. since the load patterns of urban railway have different characteristics with the general power demand pattern, the characteristics motivate us to develop the optimal operation algorithm for Ess under Korean electricity billing system. We also introduce two different Ess operation strategies for peak load shaving and electricity consumption charge minimization respectively, and formulate each scheme. Historical data from Namgwangju substation are used for economical comparison of the strategies. The results show that the proposed algorithm is the most cost-effective Ess operation scheme among the strategies and reduces around 5 percent of electric charges compared to the charge without Ess operation. © 2015 The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers.

To execute load curtailment efficiently for Urban Railway Load, the load patterns of the Urban Railway Load and available amount of load curtailment over the Urban Railway Load are analyzed through comparing the load to the common power loads. In addition, the current policies of the load curtailment for the Urban Railway Load are investigated and the problems of those are presented. Based on the researches, the optimal load curtailment strategies for the Urban Railway Load are proposed to minimize the consumer's utility diminishment and the costs of the use of energies. Finally, the optimal load curtailment strategies are applied to the real Urban Railway Load, the results shows that proposed methods are efficient and cost effective while the amount of load curtailment is minimized. A trend in the development of nanosatellite platforms for technology demonstration has increased in both private industry and academic projects. Communication link design plays a crucial role in the success of space missions, enabling efficient and reliable data transmission between satellites and ground stations. In this context, the use of advanced tools such as system Tool Kit (sTK) has gained significant importance by enabling a comprehensive analysis of the technical and operational aspects of the communication link. In an effort to make the future design of the communications subsystem payload on a nanosatellite more efficient and accessible, this paper shows a methodology for the efficient use of sTK to perform link analysis. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Crawler cranes are used in various applications, including plant construction and civil engineering. However, accidents caused by hazardous events, such as overturning the entire body or overshadowing of a suspended load, can be problematic. Because crawler cranes are large and powerful machines, simulators are required to analyze the relationship between such hazardous events and human operations. This study proposed a framework for a mixed-reality simulator to analyze the interactions between humans and crawler cranes. This framework combined the high-performance graphics capabilities of Unreal Engine 5 with the high-precision multibody dynamics analysis of MATLAB simscape to create a visually and physically realistic simulation. Moreover, the quantification of the decision-making process was possible based on the eye-tracking information of the operator. This study described the implementation of these features and discussed the prospects for human-crawler crane interaction analysis using this simulator.

The surgeon needs excellent manual dexterity and precision in order to optimize skills applied in hand-eye coordination and visual-spatial localization. On the other hand, during the surgical procedure the patient requires safety, minimally invasive incisions, shorter hospital stay and effective recovery. Therefore, a research study was conducted from 2016 to 2019 at Universitat Internacional Valenciana, in order to suggest the design of a futurist tele-operated surgical Robotic system prototype, combining the efficiency of the robots used in microsurgery with the synchronized accuracy of the technology used in aerospace medicine, considered the first of its kind in Latin America. For applications on The Earth, the main objective of this project is to show an alternative to provide mechatronic support in advanced laparoscopic surgical procedures applied for General and Gastrointestinal surgery. The proposed Medical Robotic Device called "space Biosurgeon" has 4 robotic arms with 8 degrees of freedom (DOF) that allow performing semi-automated tasks controlled by the surgeon while a robotic axis slides vertically through anatomical planes of the patient. In the design process, the International standard IEC 80601-2-77 was applied using solidWorks for computer-aided design and Matlab for simulation, taking into account patient safety, quality and effectiveness for innovation in surgical incision approach and single Port surgery. In addition, a Clinical engineering analysis is developed, showing the interaction between the 4 important factors in the operating room, which are the physician/surgeon, the patient, the robot and the hospital environment. In conclusion, the application for Aerospace Medicine is the early detection of gastrointestinal diseases by coupling an ultrasound transducer. Furthermore, is planned to integrate sensors for vital signs monitoring, and the first small-scale prototype will be implemented in 2022.

WHITHER FAsT sEALIFT - A CALL TO ACTION

作者： HOPE, JP The author:received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Virginia in 1969. Upon graduation he began his career with the Navy in NavShips and in 1971 he transferred to the ship arrangements branch of NavSec. He was selected for the Navy long-term training program at The George Washington University in 1974 and completed the program in 1976 with the degree of master of engineering administration. While at NavSec he served as a task leader on numerous ship designs. He was selected for the first class of the NavSea commander's development program. While on that program he served in NavSea combat system program management system engineering and machinery engineering positions and also was assigned to the Navy secretariat. In 1985 he joined the staff of the assistant secretary of the Navy for shipbuilding and logistics where he is the assistant director for naval construction.

This paper begins with comments on accomplishments in sealift and a summary of current problems in fast sealift. These include: few fast sealift ships in the inventory, a diminishing industrial base capable of producing such ships, and a lack of production programs to build ships that would increase our national fast sealift capability. The paper discusses strategic mobility concepts and highlights system interactions and linkages in moving war materials and replacement forces from depots and factories to the front lines. From this foundation, the paper then discusses operational requirements “pull” as related to analysis and allocation of performance among components of the strategic mobility system. sealift technology options are characterized and performance potential of these options are described. These characterizations include speed, ship lift capacity, equal cost fleet size, and fuel demands for a range of speeds from 24 to 50 knots. Performance potential for each option includes the total fleet lift capability stream over a 100-day time span for a notional mission with and without an assumed rate of attrition. Alternative program plans are described for each technology option addressing technological risk, system and component development needs, design requirements, production strategies, acquisition time lines, and resource requirements. The paper then revisits the operational requirements from a technologist's perspective. In a technology “push” approach, a set of practical and achievable requirements are selected that could be the basis of an effective and cost efficient production program for fast sealift ships. Finally, the paper concludes with a call to action that would suggest a modest reallocation of transportation resources to establish and sustain a fast sealift production program, sustain a sector of the maritime industrial base hard pressed by a lack of commercial shipbuilding, and achieve a relatively near-term increase in fast sealift capabil

seismic retrofitting with steel brace is widely-spread for the seismic retrofitting of existing RC buildings. However, there has been no study that tried to apply this seismic retrofit method to existing RC buildings with very low-strength concrete. In this research, we confirmed the effect of seismic retrofitting steel brace which used post-installed anchor together with epoxy resin for RC structures with low-strength concrete through the structural tests of two series. As the beginning, we confirmed the shear strength of the indirect connection in which existing RC frame is tied to frame of steel brace. Next, we confirmed the mechanical behavior of RC frame retrofitted with steel brace subjected to axial and horizontal loads. From the structural tests, it was shown that ultimate strength of the indirect connection and RC frame retrofitted with steel brace can be estimated by the current evaluation method. In addition, it made clear that ductility index F of RC frame retrofitted with steel brace can be 2.0.

COMBAT systems-engineering AND THE TOP LEVEL REQUIREMENT

作者： TRUXALL, CW is a Senior Program Engineer with Systems Consultants Inc. Washington D.C. serving as Project Manager for the DD 963 Combat System Engineering Program. Prior to his retirement from the U.S. Navy in 1978 he served in the AEGIS Project Office Naval Sea Systems Command as ASW Systems Manager and Combat Systems/Ship Design Coordinator. His previous assignments involved service in ten ships including engineering duty in Carriers and Submarines and two Destroyer commands. He is a 1957 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy holds Master's degrees in Business Administration and Systems Management and attended the Program Managers Course at the Defense System Management College Fort Belvoir Va. He is a member of the American Defense Preparedness Association and has been a member of ASNE since 1958 having previously served on the ASNE Audit Committee and presently as the Chairman of the ASNE Membership Committee.

The Top Level Requirement (TLR) is a document that is required by the Chief of Naval Operations to be developed for new ship designs. This document describes in some detail the requirements levied on the ship designers for characteristics of the ship and its combat system. The Combat system engineering program has been developed in the Naval sea systems Command (NAVsEA) to provide a disciplined approach to the engineering of upgrades and modernizations to current surface ship complex combat systems. One of the axioms of this systemized approach is that “top down” engineering must take place. That is, the rationale for the upgrade for the new elements being included in the system, and for the way the integration of those elements takes place, must be based upon a set of operational requirements. In order to systems engineer the developments of modernizations properly, the Author proposes that TLRs be developed for each combatant ship class without a TLR that is a candidate for a major modernization or upgrade. The primary focus would be on the combat system requirements, but also there is concern for the other ship operational characteristics as well. The TLR should be contained in a document of about twenty-five pages. As with the current TLRs, a Working Group of representatives from the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV), Naval Material Command (NAVMAT)/Naval sea systems Command (NAVsEA), and other activities would be the developers of the new TLR. Because of the numbers of individuals with some responsibility in current Fleet ships, closer coordination between NAVMAT/NAVsEA and OPNAV is required. The process which this paper describes may well support significant cost savings in future-year combat system upgrades, and the Combat system engineering Community will have a basis for combat system design.

He is employed as program manager Phalanx Advanced Engineering Development at the Naval Ordnance Station Crane Div. NavSurfWarCen Louisville Ky. During his tenure with Phalanx Mr. Shea has contributed to system reliability improvement system performance upgrading and the development of the Phalanx HOL (RISC) Computer. Mr. Shea is a member of ASNE the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Society for Computer Simulation International Test & Evaluation Association and the Military Operations Research Society.

Knowledge-based modeling and simulation bridges the gap between ''conventional'' artificial intelligence implementations (such as expert systems) and more traditional computer-aided design techniques. We are currently developing software, whose primary function is to capture a user-input design specification and produce a ''virtual'' rapid prototvpe in the form of executable rule-based code. This code can then be exercised either as an interactive part of a hardware-in-the-loop testbed simulator or as a component of an object-oriented ''behavioral'' simulation environment. While the Phalanx Testbed is the immediate beneficiary of this work, the techniques described have a wide range of application in the modeling of conceptual design and performance characteristics. This paper describes the system architecture and software tools that we are applying to generate virtual rapid prototypes for use in the Phalanx Testbed. Particular attention is paid to defining the intelligent knowledge-capture mechanisms and model generation methodologies that we are using to translate design knowledge and performance requirements into rule-based simulations. The object-oriented programming approach to the merging of ''new'' data with previouslv-captured and stored data is discussed, and the issues of verifying and validating prototypes generated using such partiallv ''reengineered'' models are examined. An application currently in use as an investigative prototype for testbed development, a simple position controller servomechanism used to control the azimuth angle of a target-tracking sensor, is used to illustrate the process.
