Skin cancer is one of the deadliest types of cancers that need to be detected at an early stage as it can widely spread affecting other organs of the body. Thus, our objective is to develop an efficient mobile application dedicated to the early detection of skin cancer in primary healthcare at a low cost. In the design of an Android-based mobile application, EfficientNetV2 deep learning model achieved the highest accuracy and feasibility of deployment as an offline model compared to other CNN pre-trained models. The designed deep learning system classifies three classes: healthy, benign, and malignant skin lesions, and further classification of malignant lesions into Basal Cell Carcinoma, Melanoma, or Nevus (the most common skin cancer malignancies) is performed. The developed two-stage classification system has achieved the highest accuracy with 91% and 90% using the EfficientNetV2-model in the designed *** relevance: Skin cancer is a severe disease that requires early detection, so we are proposing an efficient mobile application that would help dramatically in increasing survival rates by providing a free tool for real-time detection and classification of suspicious mole captured images.

In this research we aim to develop a Computer-aided diagnostic system (CAD) for breast ultrasound imaging to enhance the early detection of breast cancer. CAD tools aid physicians in the diagnostic process leading to early detection and treatment of breast cancer. The proposed CAD tool comprises three stages, the first is enhancement of breast ultrasound imaging by applying custom segmentation deep learning architectures [U-Net, SK-U-Net, RDA-U-Net] to enhance the isolation of masses in Ultrasound images, then generation of new ultrasound images by employing Generative Adversarial Networks [DAGAN, DCGAN] to overcome data limitation in available data-sets, and the last stage is the detection and classification of breast cancer masses by a CNN model. The enhancement stage shows promising results with accuracy of 98 % overall accuracy, 92 % overall precision, and 85 % overall *** Relevance: Breast cancer is one of the deadly diseases in the world. The earlier the detection the higher the chances of recovery. Thus a CAD tool that facilitates the screening process of ultrasound images will aid physicians in the early detection and diagnosis of the disease.

Construction on soft ground often involves a number of geotechnical issues especially that related to settlements. Excessive post-construction settlements may they be total or differential have always caused serious problem to all parties in the project. Insufficient knowledge on existing ground conditions due to lacking of a proper site investigation coupled with inadequacy in design especially in the foundation for supporting structure could be the likely reasons for causing this problem and lead to eventual instability of the structure above. In general, a reasonably accurate assessment on the rate of settlement of soil is a very important factor in ensuring the achievement of structurally sound building and/or infrastructural work on soft ground without the development of excessive post–construction settlement. In the current investigation, sensitivity analysis to enhance prediction of settlement is carried out using the PLAXIS Finite Element 2D Program by setting the relevant control parameters. This would allow post-construction settlement be predicted during the pre-construction stage be predicted. It is believed that this is useful in assisting the design engineer in arriving at a satisfactory solution subsequently.

Effect on physical properties of laterite soil with difference percentage of sodium bentonite

This research was carried out in an attempt to know the physical properties of laterite soil with the appearance of difference percentage of sodium bentonite. Lateritic soils usually develop in tropical and other regions with similar hot and humid climate, where heavy rainfall, warm temperature and well drainage lead to the formation of thick horizons of reddish lateritic soil profiles rich in iron and aluminium. When sodium predominates, a large amount of water can be absorbed in the interlayer, resulting in the remarkable swelling properties observed with hydrating sodium bentonite. There are some basic physical properties test conducted in this research which are Specific Gravity Test, pH Test, Sieve Analysis, Hydrometer Test, Shrinkage Limit and Atterberg Limit. The test will be conducted with 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% of sodium bentonite. Each test will be repeated three times for the accuracy of the result. From the physical properties test the soil properties characteristic react with the sodium bentonite can be determine. Therefore the best percentage of sodium bentonite admixture can be determined for laterite soil. The outcomes of this study give positive results due to the potential of sodium bentonite to improve the laterite soil particle.

In this paper, we explain how an experiential learning course and study tour to Gansu Province (People’s Republic of China) enabled undergraduates at the Singapore Management University (SMU) to acquire 21st-century competencies and higher-order thinking skills by analyzing and evaluating specific aspects of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and China–Singapore (Chongqing) Connectivity Initiative — New International Land–Sea Trade Corridor (CCI-ILSTC) with emphasis on developing viable Go-To-Market (GTM) strategies aimed at selling Gansu produce in four Southeast Asian markets. We share how the course was designed to support the attainment of key learning goals and discuss how we turned pedagogical aspirations into concrete learning outcomes. We introduce key aspects of the so-called “SMU-XO” project that the students conducted in partnership with an industry partner, Pacific International Lines (PIL), and discuss how the project work helped learners to gain global competency by (i) examining critical issues related to BRI such as multi-modal infrastructure connectivity, (ii) appreciating the local perspectives of project stakeholders in Lanzhou and Shanghai and (iii) successfully interacting with people from different cultures, namely China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand.

In several cases, the spectral properties of objects change and depend on the viewing angle. Some example of this kind of samples can be found in the printing industry where special effect coatings are used to obtain some effects on the surface of the printed media. This effect can be an additional gloss and even an effect of a color change with the viewing angle (goniochromism). To be colorimetrically characterized these samples require multiangular reflectance measurements. In this paper we represent reflectance recovery results for these coated samples using regression models and RGB measurements from multiple camera capture angles. The estimations are performed using 3-dimensional and 9-dimensional RGB data. We evaluated the differences in estimation performance for the chosen three angles by using standard color and spectral metrics and compared the recovery with 3-dimensional and 9-dimensional RGB data. © 2013 IEEE.

Different approach to texture characterization can be considered. In this work texture are analyzed through second order statistical measurements based on the Grey-Level Co-occurrence Matrix proposed by Haralick [1]. By this method is possible to compute 22 different features to describe texture. Usually, in previous works, only 5 features are considered among the complete set, but no reasons are exposed for that selection. In this work, using Principal Component Analysis, the set of features is studied and 5 features, different from former, are proposed as the most convenient describing and characterizing the considered textures. Finally, the relationship between the proposed features and perception of texture is analyzed.
